New Vegas Worries

First time out of the vault
First off, since I just joined, I guess I should introduce myself. Hi.

Now that that is out of the way, I want to discuss the upcoming Fallout Expansion Pack: New Vegas. I am a little worried about it, so since I heard this was a well-known Fallout fan community, I wanted to see what others thought.

What can I say? I love Fallout 3. I think Bethesda did a **** fine job on creating an interesting, cool game world that provides a ton of interesting content. The dungeons were definitely a step up from their previous games Morrowind and Oblivion; heck, the overall game was a step up from the Elder Scrolls series. It was also pretty innovative of them to give unique dialogue options that actually mattered and to make stats and skills useful in conversations. Heck, you could skip half the main quest with a good speech skill. While the ending was quite lame, at least they fixed it in the DLC.

Anyway, I was looking forward to the expansion pack set in Las (er New) Vegas. It is nice to get on the west coast for a change. However, I grew worried when I heard they outsourced it. From what I have heard, Obsidian mostly makes Bioware clones. I am worried that they do not understand the spirit of Fallout. I would have preferred that Bethesda develop it in-house, but what can you do?

I also once heard some old guy refer to the expansion as "New Undermountain." I don't know what he meant by that, but I don't think it is good.

What does NMA think about the new expansion? Will it still be good in spite of these facts?

Oh hi! :)

I want to discuss the upcoming Fallout Expansion Pack: New Vegas.
Fallout: New Vegas is not an expansion pack for Fallout 3. Fallout: New Vegas is an entirely separate game from Fallout 3.

What can I say? I love Fallout 3. I think Bethesda did a **** fine job on creating an interesting, cool game world that provides a ton of interesting content.
Everyone has their opinion, please bare in mind that probably 95% of the people here don't share this opinion. Compare to Fallout and Fallout 2, Fallout 3 is pretty bad. But that's my opinion.

The dungeons were definitely a step up from their previous games Morrowind and Oblivion; heck, the overall game was a step up from the Elder Scrolls series.
Please bear in mind: Fallout is NOT Elder Scrolls.

It was also pretty innovative of them to give unique dialogue options that actually mattered and to make stats and skills useful in conversations.
If you thought that was good, you should try Fallout and Fallout 2. Much more "innovation" in the speech options department. 1000x better than Fallout 3.

It is nice to get on the west coast for a change.
Fallout and Fallout 2 both took place on the west coast, as did the original Interplay Fallout 3 (Van Buren).

I am worried that [the people at Obsidian] do not understand the spirit of Fallout.
Uhh.... some of the people working at Obsidian on New Vegas are original members of the Fallout/Fallout 2 team. They understand the Fallout universe and its spirit more than the folks at Bethesda.

I would have preferred that Bethesda develop it in-house, but what can you do?
That's funny, practically everyone at these forums would have preferred that Interplay kept Fallout and Bethesda have nothing to do with Fallout.

I also once heard some old guy refer to the expansion as "New Undermountain." I don't know what he meant by that, but I don't think it is good?
...what?

Will it still be good in spite of these facts?
You mean the facts that Bethesda isn't making it and original Fallout team members are? Yes. Well, a good chance of "Yes."

You obviously don't understand that Fallout does not come from the minds at Bethesda. Bethesda had nothing to do with Fallout, the only thing they had to do with Fallout was buying the rights from Interplay and making it into an Elder Scrolls clone. That's it. Fallout is the work of the good people at the now defunct Black Isle Studios, a branch of Interplay. It is they who understand the spirit of Fallout, it is they who made Fallout great. Fallout and Fallout 2 put Bethesda's Fallout 3 to shame.

Go out and buy the Fallout Trilogy, play Fallout and Fallout 2.

Enjoy your stay. :P (I'm one of the nicer cats here)

I am worried that [the people at Obsidian] do not understand the spirit of Fallout.

Holy crap obvious troll is obvious.

This guy can't be for real... right? Right? :|

I've met some... unbelievable... people in my time. You never know. He could just be what the internets call a "noob" to the series.

I also once heard some old guy refer to the expansion as "New Undermountain." I don't know what he meant by that, but I don't think it is good?
Maybe he's referring to this:

Also suggesting that people who know of this certain picture are "old".
And the fans of Fallout 3 don't want it to be like Fallout 1/2.

Cryptic troll is cryptic (in places), if so.

That's not a question by the way.

Upon Googleing "New Undermountain," I came up with Rosh (who used to post here, correct? I remember seeing his name when I lurked around in the old posts before I registered). "Fallout: New Undermountain" is in his sig on other forums. In reference to the game Descent to Undermountain.

In other words, its a joke.

Edit: Of course, you would know this, since you are a troll on that forum.

I think Descent to Undermountain was Chris Avellone's first game. It sucked, and he acknowledged this in a float in New Reno after you win Fallout 2.

God fucking damn new fags make me sick.
Is this is how our community should welcome a new member? Shame on you.
Aye, but I had the impression he was a troll and not just your average new guy. He might well be, and since he hasn't posted since this thread it just backs it up.

He did post twice here already. Perhaps he is a troll, but he did not offend anyone, not directly anyway. Mayhap he tries to provoke us into an outrage of rightous anger, but I'd wager he just have had some facts messed up.

But to remain on topic - I have faith that Obisidian will at least provide an interesting story to back up the game and will hold true to the game's spirit much more than Bethesda did. Nothing more can be said since no information whatsoever is available.

Seriously guys, why would he post again? You guys tried to rip him a new one on his very first post.Fallout 3 was probably his introduction to the series, give him a break.

Try to remember something else too.

ITS JUST A FUCKING GAME. :D

P.S.I had the originals for some time before 3 was released, and i love all of them.

I'll admit that I scanned the page before I replied, and the discussion (mainly our lycanthropy-afflicted friend's response) gave me the impression that the post was taken quite seriously.

By lycanthropy-afflicted friend, I'm assuming you mean me. My response was semi-serious, but more so joking around. Trolls need to be fed from time to time. :D
