Alright, since this board was just born and last discussions, I guess I'll start one on new weapons to give people stuff to post about and to kill time for me. I'm getting back into mod making now, and I think I'll make my first one just a basic weapons re-hash. I'd like some help thinking of some new weapons, or interesting mods on other weapons.
Heres what I have so far :
Grenade Launcher : I'd probably convert some useless weapon that has an obviously superior similar weapons related to it or just a regular useless weapon(14mm pistol, Light support weapon, needler, or whatever.) I'm not sure if it should be a huge new weapon that I'd have to make a new inventory graphic for(if I ever figure out how) and make it under the "Big Guns" skill, or if I should do what I did with my old mod - Take the needler pistol(which has a suitable hand held grenade launcher graphic already) and change it to fire grenades(make needler ammo into grenade clips, you can't use regular hand grenades as ammo) and classify it under the small guns skill. I'm torn between having a powerful explosive weapon in big guns that can hold more than 1 ammo(unlike the damn rocket launcher), or make a hand held one to classify as a small gun(since that category has NO explosive weapons currently) and have it do fairly weak amount of damage. The cool part about using the needler as the weapon to modify into a grenade launcher is that it has 2 types of ammo, which means 2 types of grenades. I'm a thinkin' that an EMP grenade might be cool(but im pretty sure that it would still *appear* as a regular grenade with a fireball explosion, but I could try to make up something to explain that in the weapon's info you look at in the examine screen)
EMP rifle : I think that we need more EMP damage stuff. Something that does monster damage to robots, but very little to organic things(like 1-5 damage for the impact of the projectile). Would it be better to have it like a normal gun with no projectile animation, or like a laser/plasma/rocket launcher/alien blaster that you can see something being shot out of it? But remember that if it shoots something visible out, burst mode is impossible to incorporate(I think.) I'd also like to know what sort of ammo it should use(I'm thinking small batteries) or if it should have its own unique ammo(but remember that there are limited types of ammo to change, and if you think something else is more worthy of its own ammo, then..)
Super-Weapon : Should a hidden super weapon exist? Something that does HUUUUGE damage, only takes like 1 AP, and takes no/a plentiful type of ammo. Should it be a gun or meelee? Heh, that reminds me when I made the sharpened pole have a range of 100 and a damage of 200, you just saw your guy stab the air and someone all the way across the screen just falls down and slides a couple hundred feet and dies, that idea might be useful as a telepathic/magic/voodoo(voodoo tandi-doll) weapon or something. It would also be funny to tell Balthas(sp?) that you think Johnny died because you found his super-mega-flaming-death rifle-of-doom down in the town well. I can't decide what the weapon should be, let alone if it should EXIST.
Wrench : I wonder if it would be useful to give the wrench/crowbar another purpose, like doing massive damage to electrical stuff cuz you "dismantled it" during combat. I can't remember if I could still keep the normal damage in there for an ammo-less weapon if I make it do EMP damage, so the wrench would be more realistic to doing no damage instead of the crowbar. Stupid idea or worthwhile?
Weapon Genocide : Any weapon types that should be trashed? Like adding realism by taking away most energy weapons(except like a prototype for a laser rifle or something, since I can't delete that category) and replacing them with convicible weapons? I'm not too fond of it, but I'd like to hear ideas of replacing worthless crap with something less worthless. There are 2 things I am DEFINITELY trashing, the 14mm and Needler. They suck, and they are wasting valuable ammo types which could be converted into grenade rounds or AP Shotgun ammo.
Original Weapon Mods : Examples being 3-shot burst for Desert Eagle(Maybe ditch or tone down the capacity increase on the upgraded Desert Eagle and make it the only desert eagle with 3 shot burst option? Or maybe that wouldn't be so good since by the time you can find someone to upgrade you would have found MUCH better weapons, but I guess that could be fixed by making the upgraded one have more damage and range), being able to fire both barrels of the shotgun(if I do this should I make it take an extra AP? Its only one more bullet and you would already be penalized by losing the option to aim and unloading your entire gun, so I don't think I would charge an extra AP for burst), or just maybe increase the amount of bullets bursted/capacity/range/ or damage of your favorite weapon. Maybe making the upgraded assault rifle's burst to 50 bullets and raising the AP requirement to 7 or 8 would make that weapon worth using, since I've never been able to do good damage with that thing.
Or just reply with anything else that would be cool to use and possible to make. And I don't mind any suggestions on armor or drug modifications either, those are cool too. There IS gonna be a secret armor in the game(replaces the Bridgekeepers robes) and its gonna be cool.
