Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Hey everyone I'm drunk and semi-homeless so instead of paying for rent and mooching off my friends i'm thinking about getting a tent and camping on the beach. Can anyone tell me if it legal to have a tent over night and can cops legal enter with out a warrant?

I am staying in the Cony Island area there is one public beach and one closed off beach by SeaGate. if someone can cite the sources it would be much appropriated, thxs bye.

i know you can get arrested for sleeping on the beach in california and florida.

Well, being naked in public*is* illegal, so I see no exception in that case either.

Har-har-har...

jackass...

no seriously, a friend of mine once got arrested & thrown in jail for a day because he wanted to sleep off his overconsumption of alcohol -soon to become hangover- til morning before driving back to his hotel (which was a good distance away from the beach).

I think the police would rather him be in a cell sleeping it off than on a beach drowning when the tide rolls in.

nah, him being drunk had nothing to do with it. he was lying in the dunes anyway, so no danger of drowning there.

if it was about being drunk, they'd have put him in the drunktank, which they didn't.

and you also don't get a 24hour jailsentence for being drunk, Maphusio...

Interesting, I guess we would not have had this conversation if you would have supplied all of this information in the first place eh?

I think its illegal for you to sleep on a public beach, but that is - if you get caught. If you don't have any chance of being caught, then sleep away.

It's also a tent, I don't think they need a warrant for a tent.

Also: If you sleep in the Seagate private beach, they will call the cops on you and have you kicked off the beach. They really like their privacy.

No, no its actually the beach thats closed off right next to Seagate (not the boardwalk but the one on 37th and bayview) I'm sure i can make a tent in the dunes and have better luck then Suaside's friends. We do throw huge partys there.

DarkLegacy are you from Seagate, i lived there once.

I live one train stop away from Brighton Beach, and around an hours walk to Seagate. :)

I've got a relative who lives in Brighton Beach, and he tells me that the people that live in Seagate are seperatist SOB's, mostly wealthy and Jewish that dislike anyone that ventures into their territory that isn't one of them. They also have their own rules set up so that you can't even get into there unless you're invited or related to someone living there. :x

Thats an exaggeration of Seagate but once in the while the cops at the gate will give you shit. oh so you live on neck road?

I was in Coney Island last year. It was pretty cool. Took a few pics and got a T-shirt.

Sheepshead Bay.

Edit: Recalling train ride home on Friday, it was Ocean Parkway, Brighton Beach, Sheepshead. It's one stop, sorry. :wall:

I was contemplating letting you stay at my house, but then again it wouldn't bode too well with the people who I'm renting this place from that I've got some drunk guy from the Internet sleeping over. :P

Also, you can get all kinds of things inside you if sleeping on beaches. Not only bugs. Don't do it.

Coney Island / Astroland has turned into a shithole pretty much now. The projects that have been set up around Coney Island have taken down the community to a new low, and the rides are poorly maintained. The wooden roller coaster (The Twister, was it?) they have there seems like it's going to fall apart any second while people are riding on it.

The Aquarium near Coney Island is still a good place to visit, but other than that no good things are left to be said for Astroland.
