"Peaceful" Raider Solution

Philos

First time out of the vault
Aside from saving Shadow-Who-Walks's life, why should I want to allow the raiders themselves to leave their hideout "peacefully"? They are sure to continue their malicious marauding & killing on the Wasteland. They are nothing but scum & should be exterminated. "The best raider is a dead raider." And if you think I'm being mean-spirited, then you cannot be truly an FO aficionado.

They aren't raiders, they're mercenaries, so being unable to continue staging their "attacks" on Vault City won't reduce them to attacking random wastelanders. They'll just take another contract, whatever that might be. The reason you might WANT to take the "peaceful" option is because you're not a fighter, so getting a job done with stealth and/or diplomacy is HOW you can expect to complete it. That was always the point of multiple possibilities in the FO series; not that one was "right" or "wrong", but that they were options for how to complete a task, no matter your character's personal skillset. It wasn't a good thing in FO2 that most tasks required combat efficiency when the series was born on the idea that "you can do anything", it was a glaring limitation born out of time constraints.

I don't think you're being mean-spirited. I think you're being short-sighted.

You do make a point, but I have to note that they're technically not raiders, but mercenaries posing as raiders. Their "raids" were for intimidation, for show, and if I remember correctly they didn't kill anyone, or, at any rate, caused less collateral damage than the Chosen One and co. do with a typical playthough's worth of critical misses.

They're just guns for hire, and (in my opinion) morally no better or worse than the lion's share of the movers, shakers, and adventurers you meet in the wasteland. They just happen to be better armed and organized than most.

Edit: SnapSlav said it first.

TY

OK TY U both for your input. I was purposely being sort of extreme in my attitude because I thought I might be wrong, & I was. "....mercenaries posing as raiders" says it best I guess.
