Recovering deleted files

This morning I shift+deleted a folder thinking I wouldn't need anything in it. Turns out I did, there were a couple of files in a subfolder that I actually need now. Is there a way to recover these files? I know what the folder names were.

I made a new folder with the same name, though, and this one is empty.
 
Just search it in google and you'll find a dozen softwares that do what you're looking for.
I used one but can't remember the name. it's really straightforward : it scans your disks, tells you which deleted files it finds, and you tell it to restore the ones you want.
 
I used Restoration or FinalRecovery to those ends. Just google it.

Tip: Do not perform much disk writing operations like saving new files until you undelete the data.

Install the software on another partition than the files that were deleted were on.

When undeleting, undelete to a different partition than the one the files used to be on, or to a removable media (e.g. memory stick or card).

Failure to observe this might hamper your ability to perform the undeletion successfully.
 
Yeah, avoid rebooting, performing other actions or saving anything. Basically as soon as you can do it the better.
 
Do not under any circumstances use anything that uses swap files or temp files, like Windows or browsers.
 
Fuck it, then. Recovering some Total war replays probably isn't worth risking a computer meltdown.

And I've done a lot of other stuff since this morning. Besides, the disk only has one partition.

Swap is usually (depending on settings & OS, of course) a fixed section of your disk. It usually does not move or expand unless you reboot.
