Resident Evil 5 demo is out...

And I've gotta say it's alot of fun. Although as it was with RE4 the spook factor seems to be gone. It's just an action game and not really a survival horror. Or at least it feels that way to me.
I gotta say that they have done the co-op well so far.
Anyone else try it yet?
If not you've got 'till the 28th. Which is tomorrow.

All in all tho' I had fun with it and love that they finally changed the inventory system. No more menu to switch guns or use meds.

Good stuff.
 
Tried the japanese demo. I've gotta say that the game looks good ( but no better than Dead Space ) and the coop is fun.

However, the atmosphere is not that great. Sure it's somewhat orginal, but not what I would expect of a Resident Evil game. Also, the "violence" is rather laughable now that I've played Dead Space, which features a thousand different death animations ( at least ), graphic dismemberment, intense brutality etc etc...

But RE5 has a cool coop mode and that alone is great ! Never get tired of coop !

Actually it looks more multi-cultural than the previews from the past.
I've seen asians, white dudes, black dudes, middle eastern dudes.

And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

EDIT: I'm gonna play the demo again to be sure. I am sure they've they changed it compared to the few previews I had seen before.

Who can blame them really. Pull the race card, then you have a GTA style (Vice city) lawsuit on your hands.

yeah, well... I gotta say I was really wondering what the hell went through their heads when they replaces the zombies with black people. even if there was no harm intended at all, it still amazes me that not one single person in the developement team thought "hey, wait a minute... we're creating a game where you play a white guy shooting only black guys that act like crazed retards". which leads me to believing there might actually be a bit of racism hidden away somewhere behind the curtain.

if they've mixed it up and let you kill people from other nationalities that would actually make me feel a bit more at ease.

Same here. I'm just waiting for PC version to be confirmed, which seems to be very likely. I actually started new RE4 game while waiting for this.

Or maybe they took it in consideration and thought "WTF ? we don't care if it pisses people off because technically there's nothing racist about it", even though it is unlikely.
 
But I was shooting the Spanish in the previous game. Am I allowed to the shoot the Spanish because they are white?
Anyway there were black zombies in Resident Evil 1, 2, 3 and Code Veronica.

So basically what you are saying is that it was ok for Resident Evil 4 to let you slaughter hundreds of Spaniards but the black man is a no go?

It has been on the Japanese PSN since Dec 5th I think. If you want to play it REALLY bad you can always make a Japanese PSN account and download away.
 
The only way Resident Evil 5 could be labeled as racist would be if it turned out that the villagers were never infected with anything the whole time.

Now that would be racist.

I don't think it's racist, but I think it's disturbing imagery all the same. If anyone's seen Black Hawk Down, you'll know what I'm talking about. The black mob quickly became nothing more than mindless zombies, who only wanted the good american's brains! It didn't help that the Japanese have a long history of xenophobia dn racist depictions of black people countinuing to today (Jinx anyone?). That's not to say we're all free of dusky negro depictions, but I think that the image of a white american mowing down rows upon rows of africans brings about a bit of a gag reflex.

I suppose it is entirely possibile they had some agenda there. More than likely I am going to go with they are not in "touch" with the rest of the worlds feelings on political correctness and what not.

Its not a big deal really, from what I have seen the majority of bad guys are still blacks and Muslims. The white guys can just as easily be wrote off as TriCell employees.

How about white bussiness criminals? Personally, they affect my country the most, I couldn't care less about black and Muslim bad guys.. You see how subjective it is?
Even in US it seems like black criminals are operating mostly on the street level, and still there are white fucks (like lawyers) who help them launder all the money, which they couldn't do without. But what do I know anyway..

As I said before, the white guys can easily be explained as TriCell employees or something along those lines. I really do not see how im going to "stir up some shit" with the black/Muslim comment.
The game takes place in Africa, naturally you would expect to be fighting more "dark skinned" type people.

TriCell is a pharmaceutical company in the world of Resident Evil. From what I gather they were Umbrella's rival and are the top dog now that Umbrella fell apart.

What I was saying is that the white guys you see in the game could have been TriCell employees and scientist that got caught in what ever it is that happens in the game.

That is my theory at least, we will know when we play the game.
 
Well, think of the black people as the victims - ""Oh, you poor poor man turned into a mindless being against your will, let me stop your suffering." and put the white dudes as the reason of the whole evil that befell the Africans...and that will definetly NOT be racism!

ANYWAY, I ought to give the game a try.
