Sierra Army Depot Forcefield help.

Hey. I'm having some problems with the Forcefields in the Sierra Army Depot in Fallout 2. As I understand it, I should be able to use my Repair skill ( or Vic's ) on the Forcefield emitters that hang near the fields themselves. However, when I try to use the drag menu to use the skill, the little VaultBoy face just isn't there. I tried using the skill from the lower menu, and I get a message saying that I cannot repair that. I tried everything I can think of, and I loath to just go through the red forcefields because my party would lose HP and I'm in no mood to heal them all. Can someone please help me?
 
You can't disable the forcefields when they're red. Also, the easiest way to use Repair is probably to hit the 8 key. You will find this if you press F1.
