Spin it, baby!

Antediluvian as Feck
Spotted at DAC, it seems that Interplay is not at all content with the negativity on their own forums about the apalling design of Fallout: POS (or lack thereof), the Fallout: POS forums have had all posts deleted and the forum itself has been locked. Too bad they can't delete the negative reactions elsewhere, eh? It's kind of funny that they remove their feedback forum when the feedback got a little too much for them.

A theory of the reasons have been from the reaction towards the ungodly trailer, the laughable design, or the almost unanimous rolling of the eyes as Team Chuck yet again displays no clue about the Fallout setting except what they've just briefly parsed through of the Fallout Bible and what they could play of Fallout Tactics as long as their ritalin held out (but how will their attention span last with the auto-targeting system that is hardly as unique as they claim?).

Of course, it could also be because Chuck was found in the janitor's closet next to the bucket and pail (presumably getting acqainted early to his future job prospects), hugging his knees and rocking back and forth whilst mewling like a kitten "But I thought everyone would like these kewl ideas!"

Remember, kids: Whenever you play the Fallout: POS trailer, Father Interplay kills a kitten. Think of the kittens.

hey

I think Chuck was really trying to impress everyone with his cool website and trailer, but ended up exploding in his face. He probably still doesn't understand why we dont like this game other than, "they're just mad because they don't have a xbox or ps2".

Boy, I wish this sorta discussion was around back when Accolade crapped out Star Control 3... maybe the series wouldn't have been totally screwed if it was.

Okay, it probably would have been, but maybe not

I agree that Star Control 3 was not as good as SC2... But it wasn't as bad as Fo:BoS.

YOU SPIN MY RIGHT 'ROUND, BABY, RIGHT 'ROUND!

You should have seen the forum right before it was deleted, Rosh. It was be-fucking-autiful, man. There was a huge outpouring of totally pissed off people coming out of the woodwork, people signing up for that forum just to berate Interplay and Chuck because of the trailer and new web page. It was flooded with negative feedback.. FLOODED.

It's funny you should mention John Romero, because Romero could point to Doom and Quake on his resume after Daikatana. What can Chuck point to? Run Like Hell? I don't think so.

Hmm, this reminds me of the Titanic with a twist.

So lets say that Titanic is being built as we speak. At the port there has been icebergs aplenty and a hurricane that has lasted a full year so far. The builders of the ship decide "Bah! This boat will never sink! Let's just get rid of the weather man so we don't have to listen to this negative tripe anymore!" So the boat is still under construction despite complete doom waiting for it to set sail. Ah, ignorance is bliss.

Outstanding, and quite accurate analogy. To take it one step further, it would be the like firing the weatherman so the investors of the Titanic and the passengers would naively fund the project/get on board.

That's the main reason for the locking and deletion, is to hide the negative reaction from the stockholders other than Titus, who already knows that IPLY is in the shitter and swirling. It is also to sucker those too naive into buying the game, with the FAQs and official site more ludicrous than the Iraqi Minister of Information.

Brilliant Ozrat, it´s exacly how i feel about this new chapter on the debacle.
Thumbs up for you, man

Hey Hey Hey!

I'm starting to feel like I'm leaving my mark here at NMA... I'm just looking through the recent posts in the forums here and I find a link to a DAC thread that I read for a while. Then I find a link to an Interplay thread and I look at those for a while. It brought a smile to my face to see Briosafreak quoting me here! It feels so good to be so loved here... And you can quote that!

If anybody is too weak-minded to form their own opinions, they are welcome to adopt mine.

i have an idea. we should all download the trailer at the same time. maybe we'll crash Interplay's website.

There are easier ways to crash their server...

Naturally, and much easier, since they've apparently had to cut back on their server funding.

All you need is a few more people loading up their site and down it goes, like clockwork.

Hmmm, true. I do love that line.

"Clockwork" also fits, because the IPLY site could shit itself without anyone's help.

Per this bullshit on the IPLY forum, since I R teh BANZ0R, and the thread is locked:

It's kind of funny he's telling you to get your facts straight, Brios, when he's making up the facts as he goes along.

1.) Killzig said that email was the only remotely "harrassing" email he's sent in a long, long time on DAC before TechWiz posted it anywhere. So TechWiz claiming Killzig lying about sending it is total bullshit. I posted all the emails I've emailed Chuck about on DAC, two before his excuse, and two after. About the only thing remotely harrassing in mine was that in one I asked Chucky if he thought his game credits so far would make for a good resume for new management if Interplay is sold.

2.) He banned Killzig eight days after it was sent, so it's kind of odd that he waited so freaking long if that was the real reason. Note the date on the email, Apirl 15. We were banned on April 23rd. Either there's another reason, or the boy is really inefficient at his "job".

3.) If there are all these emails, why is he only telling people about that particular one Killzig sent? The one it took him eight days to ban Killzig and I for? The one that was sent before I was unbanned, making it questionable why I was rebanned since I hadn't done anything from the time I was unbanned until he banned me.

4.) What's the deal with him yanking KraziKatt's admin status from the forum? She's a veteran IPLY employee after all. She supposedly told him about unbanning me, and she also made a post about doing it on the admin forum the day she did it. TechWiz rebanning me because he said he didn't know is bollocks. Then he yanks her access level on the forum for it five days after she told all the moderators and admins about it?

5.) If he's in the right about all this, why does he lock every thread about it quickly so he can get the last word in every time? This is especially odd considering it's a FEEDBACK FORUM. The very purpose of one of those is discussions about how the forum is run.

6.) What's the deal with having rules for a forum when the moderators have to follow them, but the admin completely ignores them?

7.) Really, given everything that's gone on in the passed several months, the forum should rightly be called "TechWiz's Playpen", because it's a more descriptive name for it than "The Interplay Forums". I'm not just talking about the whole Fallout Enforcer debocle either, there's been a hell of a lot of other things going on over there. All it's served to do so far is alienate their potential consumers by generating negative publicity for the company. BioWare can afford to run their forums like that, because they have a larger fan base right now. Interplay needs all the customers they can get and ghestapo style management certainly ain't the way to get that.

8.) Given the way the forum goes down, the bugs with the message link index, and so on, you'd think old TechWiz would have better things to do than to try be Captian Machiavellian. Of course, Machiavelli kind of assumed The Prince's kingdom at least ran smoothly, unlike the IPLY forum which has numerous glitches. Apparently wielding the mad powah is more important to Mr. Gisler than making sure his imminent domain works properly.

I just read that thread. From the time I started posting after I was unbanned by KraziKatt to the time I was rebanned, I sent exactly ZERO emails to Chucky Cuevas. None at all. Likewise, Killzig didn't send any emails within that time, either. Supposedly we were banned for an email sent days before I was unbanned. You can check the dates on that email, April 15th. So basically..

April 15: Killzig sent the bad email.
April 18: KraziKatt unbanned me.
April 19: I resumed posting.
April 23: I was rebanned, Killzig was banned.
April 25: TechWiz announces Killzig and I were banned because of the email dated April 15th. Also, I was rebanned because KraziKatt didn't tell TechWiz I was unbanned.

It's the 8 Days thing that doesn't make any sense.

Now for some more funniness! The claims that we've violated the Terms of Service on the Interplay forum. Here they are:

  • While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators, moderators or webmaster (except for posts by these people) and hence will not be held liable.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered above being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent the webmaster, administrator and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

This forum system uses cookies to store information on your local computer. These cookies do not contain any of the information you have entered above; they serve only to improve your viewing pleasure. The e-mail address is used only for confirming your registration details and password (and for sending new passwords should you forget your current one).

By clicking Register below you agree to be bound by these conditions.

Notice the underlined portion, which refers to posts made on the forum itself. If we were banned for Killzig's email, which was sent over a week prior to the bannings, that still doesn't violate the Terms of Service. That's basically a lie. You might as well start banning people from the forums for what they say on IRC or on other message boards if you twist that term to mean any other form of electronic media, since it refers to content posted on that said forum exclusively.

Now, for the additional fun happy horse flop..

http://forums.interplay.com/viewtopic.php?t=1019

Those are the rules of the forum. The important bit right here is:

  • Ban/Censure/IP Removal: The Interplay boards operate under a simple 3-strike system. In general, each situation is different and requires careful consideration based on the degree of the offence, as well as the severity. If censure proves inadequate, a ban will be utilised for the most grievous of offenders. Censure/Ban may include ALL accounts a member may posses - abuse of this may result in a permanent IP ban.

If someone is banned, it is understood that the following opportunity to create a new account falls under the follow auspices: i) creating a new account with a similar name is not allowed, and; ii) In addition, once a member's account has been banned - there is an immediate period of probabtion. If in that time (defined by the previous infraction and determined on a per case basis) a member continues with a new persona to post in a manner contrary to the Rules, no further warning will be issued, and that member will be IP banned.

Once again, the first time I was banned was for the avatar, with no three strikes in place. The second time was supposedly because of that email sent over a week prior, which was CCed to me, with no three strikes either.

In fact, you have to question how harrassing that original email was, since it was a quote from The Simpsons, something which is aired at peak viewing hours on prime time local TV, but that's another matter entirely.

But, just for kicks, try to find the rule in there about emailing Interplay people. There isn't one. There's no addendum in that announcement forum about that newly instated email rule either, and it's been 13 days since TechWiz made it up as an excuse to get rid of Killzig and myself.
