Expeditions: Viking is set in the year 790AD. The old chieftain of the village, your father, has died and it's now your turn to lead the clan. You have a lot of rival clans against you in Denmark and you need to travel overseas to England and seek support for your cause. Also, can you find out how your father died?
The combat is turned based and quite basic. You usually have 7(?) in your party so the battles are quite big. The game is also quite easy once you've completed the first areas so makesure to play on the highest difficulty. The leveling provides you with a lot of choice and there are a lot of different builds. However, in the end you will probably have maxed everything so it's a bit like a Bethesda game in that regard. Crafting is ridiculously overpowered so make sure to create a character that specialises in that, you will get the best items that way. The resting mechanics are awesome. Your characters have to take turns sleeping and someone always have to guard the camp. Characters can go off hunting and stuff during rest and a lot of cool stuff can happen. You will have wild dreams and connect with your companions.
The game provides you with enough choices and consequences to be considered a proper RPG. You have a lot of different options on how to handle situations. You can probably not do a non violent playthrough but it's a Viking game after all.
What can annoy RPG fans? Well the game is to easy for one. It's unbalanced even though that has improved through patching. You can max most of the skills on every character in your party so in that way it's as bad as a game by Bethesda.
But I still had a lot of fun with it and with this game you really feel like you need another playthrough. So it has a lot of value!
