I think he nails the presentation and narration of his videos and most of his points regarding the problems with the new Fallout games ring true. I do have a problem with his "The Perfect Fallout Sequel", a lot of his ideas just come off as "these are cool features from other games so let's put this here" with no actual thought as to whether the mechanics would be appropriate for Fallout; just a bloated mess that strays too far from the core of the games which I consider ironic considering he harps on Bethesda for not getting the franchise right (though with good reason) yet it just seems he's turning it into a survival horror game more focused on "immersion" that would be more appropriate for something like Metro or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

I've seen these before and don't remember everything from them but I remember enough.
Yeah, he definitely wants something more like STALKER or Metro. I'd want another isometric-esque Fallout RPG than an action one. New Vegas was awesome but a big flaw of it was being so much like Fallout 3 and more action based. RPGs, to me at least, aren't about action gameplay. They're about roleplaying. I want actual good Fallout entries to be about roleplaying and exploring morality and tough decisions throughout America. He's drawing influence from other games way too much. STALKER and Metro are nothing like Fallout and though I really like both of those series, I get sick of hearing about them when anyone brings up Fallout.

I can think of some interesting spin-off Fallout ideas for an action based title but most things I actually want to see from Fallout are just pipe dreams. And my action based ideas would probably remind people of Mad Max too much for their liking as I would place the action ones right after the war since there would be more of a survival and combat focus on the games. And they wouldn't be Gamebryo/Creation engine games of course:puke:. That engine needs to just be retired for the rest of gaming's future.

I don't mind the action element. The combat in the original games is easily the worst part about them (besides bugs). If you played FOnline, then you can probably understand more about why isometric combat is such utter shite. If you think about it, making a game real time doesn't change the roleplaying in any way- if someone wanted to a full conversion of f01/2 quests/characters/story to a modern title they could, so long as skills were adjusted to function in real time. It just makes the combat less boring and easier to get through. A game can be about roleplaying and still have real time fps combat.

Real time as in? Because I want turn based RPGs not RTwP. Real time combat with first person definitely detracts from the RPG to me. It introduces more player skill than character skill usually. And if chatacter skill is included it feels fucking wonky and wrong. RPGs are about my character's skills, let them do the action and see if they succeed or fail. If you make a FPS where the gun wobbles when I aim because my character's skills are low, that's a similar idea but annoying as hell.

I don't play Fallout for combat, I play Doom and other games for combat.

    Thanks for posting my vids!

It's true the "Perfect Fallout Sequel" is a fantasy project, with goals that would be pretty difficult to materialize. My original idea was to bridge the more action-oriented "mainstream" audience with the classic Fallout audience, hence my idea of incorporating an optional tactical battle system akin to Valkyria Chronicles. A lot of these ideas could be playtested and found out to be disastrous, but I hope it at leasts inspires some conversation about where RPGs could be headed.
