I really don't see the point to the first and third screens.

they seem to show nothing of any importance and their glaring flaws in terms of verisimilitude and believable architecture just make the game look worse..

in the first screeny you can tell right away that nobody at bethesda has every worked on a scaffold or even been close enough to one to realize that the crossmembers are attached with bolts just like every other part in their modular design.

their "steel mill' looks like it's made out of kinex toys or some of those snazzy legos.

the third one, I really can't even tell what we're supposed to be seeing. maybe a wicker man made of rebar? in chains? surrounded by burning gas thats just burning for the sake of being burnt?

    wtf?

Nicholas Cage starring in Bethesda's The Pitt.

When I first saw the third picture, it appeared to me to be a massive steel sculpture (which would kind of make sense in Pittsburgh) as a symbol of the Slavers' power and dominance - hence the chains.

Regarding the second picture. I am pretty sure those are the Trogs. Bethesda keeps very few secrets from the pre-release PR (remember the Behemoths). I noticed that the Trogs seem to have only four fingers (yes that including the thumb) - weird. Also since Fallout 3 doesn't really do shadows, does that mean all of the self-shadowing on the Trogs is just static textures painted on them?

Since the file was called trogs.jpg, yes, those are trogs.

Bethesda usually edits images for the sake of PR, I would think such shadows just don't show up in the final game.

Heh, hadn't even noticed that. Funny lil' duplo thing they got going there

Haha, oh my dear Brother None, of course they don't think anything through! That's why we have this lovely Oblivion mod called 'Fallout' 3.

Yep, did not expect the Trogs to look like that. Or be naked really. *shrug* oh well. Though I have to wonder why they all have beer bellies....

As far as the first picture goes, I thinK I spy a new suit in the background. The girl in the distance appears to be wearing some new skimpier version of the Painspike armor or something. Must me Slave clothing or something.

Last pic...uh, why are those pipes even on fire? Doesn't make much sense to have a gas line suddenly pop up and go back underground.

But meh. Still would buy it just to try it out.

Simple, gas pipes on fire is teh awesome! Also it's the very model of immershun. Showing that these raiders are so rich that they can burn of last vestiges of America's oil supply to make a statue look fancy.

What I don't get is that supposedly Pittsburgh wasn't hit by nukes which is odd as industrial centers are right up there with military bases on bombing priority lists.
Then again according to Beth the Chinese were using Fat Man class atom bombs so maybe the planes couldn't reach it.

Maybe that third pick is a tantilizing little tidbit to wet your appetite for Operation "Rescue Liberty Prime!". Down behind enemy lines, low on ammo, stem packs, and 80w gear oil he needs your help to get back to the last remnants of the brotherhood so he can fulfill his role in your "destiny" that this game seems to be so fond of. It could happen, mark my words, that is exactly what will happen! But if it doesn't, meh.

The funny thing is, I really thought that The Pitt wouldn't be a gun-down-everything addon, but it seems like of course I was wrong.

Operation: Anchorage - you and your guns against chinese soldiers.

The Pitt - you and your guns against mutants.

Broken Steel - you and your guns against the Enclave.

    Eh...

Besthesda have never really had a clue about how a nuclear attack on the US would work. Take the Mall in Washington. If it's in as good condition 5 minutes after the nuclear apocalypse as it is in Fallout 3 (set 200 years later) I would be very surprised.

Yep, IDK about you guys, but one question burns my mind, what happened to the fifth finger? Somehow it looks like their middle finger is the one missing (you can see it more clearly in the background Trog).

I wonder if this has any semiotic significance. ;)

If you had shown me the Trog screenie, and asked what game it was for, I'd have said something like "Silent Hill" or one of those other horror games...

Why not just let Fallout BE Fallout?

Ehhhh I have to say the problem isn't incorporating horror-style enemies (Because frankly those have been in since Fallout 1) I'd say it's more of a problem that Bethesda is trying to make all enemies be feral. It seems like Bethesda is leaning too much on the "The enemies attack on sight because their brain is degenerated from radiation" card too much. But adding in horror? Fallout 1's Centaur design was more "Silent Hill" then Fallout 3's Trog.

On another note, the Pit Trogs make me think of the Mutant Cannibals in VB concept.

Good use of crowbar as a verb, BTW. Very apt.

i was hoping the trogs were going to be a type of reference to the nutty vegetarian terrorists from the movie delicatessen. oh wait, no i wasn't, any efforts in that direction would have ended tragically.

i believe that in the end, our ever expecting progressive or even remotely unconventional ideas in videogame making is something that will depend on public funds. this including governments establishing professional bodies committed to placing non-short-term-commerce-oriented attention on independent studios, as with movies, other creative media, and arts and culture in general.
