Who are currently holding the rights to Torn?

Also feel free to discuss any of their dead titles.

The hell kind of topic is this, Dragula? Wrong forum? Failure to clarify what you're asking and why?

Rights? You're talking about Project Torn? All assets and IPs (not sure if it's a registered IP tho') of Project Torn are owned by Interplay.

Also moved.

Seems I was to much in a rush there. Let me rephrase and clarify.

Yes I'm talking about project torn, from what I can understand from digging around it was almost a completed game, thus someone has to own the right to what was created, this is what I want to know, who now sits on those strings of codes.

Also got response from J.E Sawyer: He is not sure if it's interplay, he would assume so but he is by no means 100% sure. Also confirmed it is an IP so in your face, Kharn.

Uh ok, isn't that what I said?

Pretty sure Interplay has them. I could ask but hardly need to, it just makes sense if it is still theirs. Who'd buy it? And we'd have heard if someone had.

Nah, you changed your reply, you first said it wasn't an IP and then changed to unsure. It still looks like an intresting game though. Shame it died off with BI.

Are there more titles that got scrapped like Van Buren and Torn?

Heh, good eye ;)
Yeah, 'coz I realised that while we always refer to it as Project Torn, it was actually announced as Torn, back in...2001?

Oh yes, BIS had a bit of a streak of futility around this time. Van Buren wasn't close to the most finished title, I'd say Torn was pretty finished too - if with obvious issues. The biggest shame was Project Jefferson (this was in the period when JE Sawyer's presidential codenames had caught on), aka Baldur's Gate III/The Black Hound. That game was as good as finished, and would've been finished just fine, if Interplay hadn't fucked up their license deal and lost the D&D license. Doi!

Torn was no where near complete. That was the whole point of it being cancelled, it wasn't going to be done in time and the whole project had kinda gone of the rails due to poor oversight.

Ah right, forgot about that one. Also Stonekeep 2 suffered a premature death, or more like, stillborn in this case. What I do not get is why they had like, 4 titles up and going during the same period while they were in financial issues.

Lies. "I don't know if we ever released an official reason on why Torn was canceled, but in a nutshell, the game was canceled because it was not going to be done in time to get Interplay the revenue the company needed to continue operations. That sounds like it was all Interplay's fault, but that's really not the case. The project was not going well and continued to be an ongoing challenge."

They had still made a good headway and it was more so completed than for example Van Buren.

Lies. "We had been working on it for a little less than 18 months. At the time of the cancellation, we made an honest assessment of how far away we were from release and concluded that if we worked our butts off, we would have been done in eight months (which would have meant missing Q4 2001). /../ [The cancellation] was fairly sudden. We had spoken in the spring about canceling it, but obviously not as seriously. The cancellation had a lot to do with deciding how best to use our and Interplay's resources. "

Eight months is just about how long each of the Icewind Dales took to make from scratch.

It doesn't matter what sort of good headway was made, a game with eight months left is no where near done.

They took most stuff from BG series so well not from scratch :)
