Using (no-addon original) Fallout 3 saves in Fallout 3 GOTY?

Hi,

A friend suggested to check out the addons to Fallout 3. Although, I never finished it, I do have the original game and have a perfectly fine level 20 character running around in the wastelands. Hence, I would like to continue the game with this character. However, having observed the prices of the various addons, I discovered that the GOTY is far cheaper (on amazon) than buying all addons separately.

Is it possible to continue my game (from a Fallout 3 install with no addons) in a new to install Fallout 3 GOTY edition? Can you install the addons on the GOTY DVD separately from the main game (as this is already on my hard disk)?

You should be OK. I did what you're describing on 360, and had no problems whatsoever.
 
UPDATE:

Ok, this works perfectly. The GOTY contains a DVD with the original Fallout 3 and a DVD with only the DLCs. I just used the latter and installed the DLC and it works. :)
