When was the last time you played each respective Fallout game?

Resardiv

Herr Nordic Lost in Amerikat
As I'm going through Fallout 1, I realized I haven't played several of the Fallout games in a long time.
  • 1: Currently playing right now
  • 2: Around two years ago
  • Tactics: 2016
  • Bos: Never played, but I do own a copy.
  • 3: 2015
  • New Vegas: 2020. Want to play again soon, but can't be bothered to mod it.
  • 4: 2016. Finished the game once, never returned.
  • 76: During the latest steam-free weekend event, so late 2023. Didn't enjoy it at all.
So my question to you is:
When was the last time you played each respective Fallout game? Is there any game you long to play again?

  • 1: 2024
  • 2: 2024
  • Tactics: 2023, never finished it.
  • Bos: 2017 or 2018, never finished it (played on a PS2 emulator).
  • 3: 2024
  • New Vegas: 2024
  • 4: 2017. Never finished it and don't own any of its DLCs.
  • 76: Never played it and don't own it.

1: 2024
2: 2024
Tactics: 2001
BOS: Never
3: 2022
New Vegas: 2023
4: 2022 - never finished
76: 2022? free weekend

1: I want to say either never or 2019. Around 2010 was my first time "playing" Fallout 1. I remember that I launched it, got scared from the main menu, then quit immediately. I actually got past the main menu in 2016 but never played much of it as I was busy with other stuff. 2016 was more of a "seeing what I am missing out on, seeing past the main menu" rather than an actual playthrough. In 2019 I played around for a bit, but not for much. I will play it soon, though.
2: 2019.
Tactics: Haven't played it yet.
BoS: Never.
3: Played for a while at 2018, but I didn't like it, so I stopped.
NV: 2021. I want to play it again. Might do so when I have the time for it.
4: 2020. Simply just to test some mods.
76: Never.

Sorry for the long reply. Guess I turned the FO1 section into a story time.

Don't apologise, this forum needs all the activity it can get. Good one you.

I try to replay at least two games every year, but been thinking about replaying all the games I enjoy this year.
  • 1: It's short and I love gameplay of classics the most, so I usually replay it every year, sometimes more then once.
  • 2: If we count only full playthough then 2022, but I tried to replay it in 2023, mostly for New-Reno which is the best city in RPGs in my opinion. Planning to replay it this year.
  • Tactics: 2020 or 2021, I'm not sure. Planning to replay it this year.
  • Bos: Never played, never will.
  • 3: 2012, I think, returned to it in 2018, played only the Pitt which is the only thing that I fully liked from Bethesda.
  • New Vegas: 2021. Only use JSawyer mod with some cut content restoration. Planning to replay it this year, but I'm not sure, I don't like shooter games and NV is quite big.
  • 4: 2018. But I'm not sure if I finished it even once. Might try it again when London will came out, if it's on the same level of horrible like the frontier was.
  • 76: Never played, never will.
Not sure if it's worth to include fan conversions for Fallout 2, but it's not like we ever get something close to classic games from Bethesda so:
  • Nevada: I'm playing it right now, but becuase of issues on work barely get anytime right now.
  • 1.5: 2023. It's close to the tone of F1 and it's also short, usually replay it when I want to play classic games, but get tired from Fallout 1. Planning to replay it this year.
  • Olympus 2207: 2019, I think.
  • Sonora: 2023, such a pity that it will be the last conversion from Nevada Band. Hope the guy will get the chance to make his own game. Planning to replay it this year.

1: been a few years
2:2024
3:2024
NV:2024
4:2023
76:2024
Tactics:2024

Still can't finish a tactics game idk what it is even with turn based I don't like it

I don't have a lot of time for recreational gaming nowadays, so for pretty much all the Fallout games, the last time I played them was for research playthroughs (I write a lot of fanfic).

Fallout 1: 2021. Test playthrough. Been longer than I thought.

Fallout 2: 2023. Also longer than I thought. Technically a test playthrough, but also my first time properly playing the game. Need to get back to this one soon.

Tactics: Owned, but never played. I hope to get to it whenever I'm done with F2.

Brotherhood of Steel
: Never played. Might do one day, after Tactics, if only out of morbid curiosity.

Fallout 3
: Last night, funnily enough. Another test playthrough for a writing project.

New Vegas: Steam says a few days ago, but that was just testing a mod I'm working on. I don't actually remember the last time I played played it, but it was probably sometime within the last year?

Fallout 4: 2023, apparently. Another test playthrough, though I think I was also trying to get into Frost around that time. Honestly more recent than I thought. Kind of been neglecting this one for a while. Still to this day have yet to finish the game, or play the DLCs.

Fallout 76: Owned, but never played. Planning to play and write about it after I'm done with my Vegas, 3, & 4 projects (assuming that Bethesda hasn't shut down the servers in this hypothetical far future).

What kind of fan fiction?

A few different kinds, but most relevant to this forum, Fallout fic. I'm probably best known for a story called Wanderer's Diary, which I first wrote in... I want to say 2013? I've since written similar stories in the same universe based on the other games, hence the need for research playthroughs. My latest Fallout story is a fic called The Good Life, about the Vault Dweller after he left Arroyo.

I remember that I launched it, got scared from the main menu, then quit immediately.
There is a scary easter egg in the Fallout 1 credits menu.

During the credits, type: boom

This will play a short video clip of the lead programmer's head exploding into chunks.

He didn't know about this... he discovered it one day while trying to determine why the credits menu was making animation calls.

That would have made me not want to touch any CRPG or any similar games for the rest of my life, even if the game was unrelated to Fallout. Glad I didn’t find that out back then.

I can't even begin to imagine how Tim must have felt. Just imagine going through your game, noticing something is off, you try to check if it's a bug, then boom. Literally.
I know about a similar situation, with DooM II and Romero's head, and how he was kind of surprised by it at first, but then found it funny and added the voice line to it. I wonder if Tim had a similar reaction.

I once read about a developer team working on a first person maze/or dungeon game, where during testing they encountered (a moderately abstract) drawing of Jesus upon the wall. {!?}

It turned out that unrelated textures could produce the image when they appeared adjacent in the maze.

In Fallout there was once a bug (during development) that unexpectedly would launch dogs out from the rocket launcher; sending them running at the targets... presumably exploding when they arrived.

Side note: There is another easter egg in the Fallout credits menu, if you hold shift while clicking for the Credits.

The Jesus one sounds scary. Like something you'd read out of a good creepypasta.
The dog glitch is hilarious.
I will check out the other credits easter egg once I boot Fallout the next time.

Thank you for sharing all of these. These are all so cool.

I've only truly played Fallout 1 and 2, FT:BoS. Don't remember when I last played the first two, FT:BoS I might replay now, we'll see.

I wouldn't mind playing Bethesda's Fallouts too, but usually it takes me a whole week to set up any Bethesda game with full mods, since they have those magick 256 slots for all the modules whatnot, you have to use multiple tools for installation, compatibility checking and adjusting etc, etc and often in the end after the week you still end up with something glitchy. All that puts me off. And no, I dislike playing vanilla, if a game is supposed to be able to run all those 256 thingies together.
