Why am I leveling so slowly? (any help on my gameplay style?

First time out of the vault
Maybe it's because I haven't played any games like this in a few years. ( I didn't like Oblivion) But I can't seem to level to blow that damned bomb. And I only get like 5 xp for killing stuff. I tried to go the city where you delivery the letter, and now he wants me to kill "The family."
I barely have any caps, and no more ammo. :(

And if I try to find that radio station, I run into 3 super mutants. I'm kind of stuck here. I'm thinking I'm in over my head with this game. (Seems to require more patience and a longer attention span than I have)

Whats the best way to deal with these mutants? And to get some faster XP?
 
Raid the Super-Duper mart for Moria in Megaton.

Get radiated for Moria in Megaton.

Go raid Springville elementry but for the love of god don't go into the mines in there untill you have many many bullets.

I killed Moira, already..Lol. She was really annoying, and all her jobs seemed like suicide.
Took care of the market. But I think I forgot about the pharamacy part. (Thanks.)

Ah. I forgot about the school. I think I need to scrounge up more caps, so I can get some better ammo.
 
Most of the guys in the school can be beat to death with a pipe.

and you missed out on alot of stuff Moria gives. She is a pain to listen to but gives some nice stuff.

Yea.I may go back to a previous save before I wasted her and start her again.
I have a terrible time with the combat. And like I said with my attention span, I had to shut it off a few minutes ago because I got annoyed/bored.
I think I need to take it slower.lol Stock up.
 
Lockpick/Science 75/50.

I'm not joking, like 50% of my levelling is these two skills, at between 20-40xp a pop. Pick all locks you find, then hack the terminal that could have opened the lock, afterwords. Do this all the time and you'll be such high level you'll start skipping safes to keep from levelling.

Exposives 25 allows you to pick up mines for 5xp as long as you click on 'em b4 they blow up in your face, speech checks ususally get you 5xp also.
 
yeah lockpicking and hacking are an xp goldmine. also you get big bonuses in the main quest a couple of times.
 
Go do minefield. You'll get a good chunk of XP from disabling all of the mines, a huge amount of cash for selling said mines (or you can throw yourself a landmine party, who knows); and you'll get a sniper rifle.

Oh, and there's only like 9 npcs in the entire town to mess with you (an old guy, and ~8 roaches).
 
If you don't actually do anyb quests, you'll level pretty slowly. Especially if you're gonna be all "LOL she was dumb and I was scared to try the quests," and then complain that you have nothing to do.. Moira's quest chain is one of the longer and more profitable quest groups you can find, and if you don't like her, well maybe you've got actual issues.. She's the only NPC who NOBODY can hate..

Ask her about disarming the bomb for instance.. How could you have any hate toward someone who thinks like that? :roll:

Also, you shoulda just blown up the bomb and not killed her, because you'd probably like her more when you find her afterward, somewhere else...
 
Change your difficult setting. Set it as normal or something. I'll bet you have it on very easy. The higher the difficult level the more XP that is rewarded. At least that's what i expierenced.

I hope that was some sarcasm in there.
But I may go back to a previous save and leave her alive when I blow it up.
