Windows 7 and Google Chrome hijinks

So I've been running the Windows 7 beta (both 32 bit and 64 bit) for some time, and I really like it. There was a problem though. I use Google Chrome as a browser. I like it, it's minimal and doesn't take up tons of resources. It doesn't interact well with other software though. Whenever I have Chrome and another app, say Spotify, on at the same time, something weird happens. When Chrome is maximized, the windows taskbar disappears. It fucking vanishes. It doesn't auto-hide or anything, it's completely gone until I minimize Chrome or press alt-tab. This only happens when I'm running Chrome at the same time as other software.

This is just an annoyance when I'm casually browsing the Internet, but it's a real problem when I have to work, for instance when I have to switch rapidly between the browser and Adobe Acrobat, or Word.

So a few days ago, I upgraded to the full release version of Windows 7, thinking it was just a beta bug thing. It's not. The problem remains. Working on my laptop is a real bitch now, as I'm used to switching between windows with my mouse.

Does anyone use a similar setup and encountered the same problem? I'd hate to switch browsers, all others are shit, to be honest.

actually, that's quite a misconception.

Google Chrome DOES use a lot of resources, but does so in burst moments. try looking up some independent browser tests, you'll see Chrome's memory use quite often 'explodes' to then drop right back down, to then explode all over again. etc etc etc.

Right, that's not really the point though. I still like it better than other browsers that have lots of unnecessary gizmos and apps.

I have no problems here on Win7 build 7100, but I'm actually using SRWare Iron, which is pretty much just a build of Chromium (aka Chrome without the Google). Maybe you could try it.

Isn't this why Firefox was developed by Mozilla in the first place?
