Seeing as you guys are pretty smart computerwise I was wondering if you could help me out. Today, I looked in my gmail account after a couple weeks of not using. What I found was a mail from battle.net saying I requested to add an authenticator to my World of Warcraft account. Knowing bullshit when I saw it (I stopped playing in March and am now waiting for Cataclysm) I changed my email and Bnet passwords using a friend's computer. I checked that WoW Armory thing and found 4 new level 1 characters with gibberish names. Perhaps the work of those dastardly Chinese WoW gold sellers?

Anyway, I need some advice on what to do. Should I look for keyloggers, spyware, and so on on my computer?

Strike's me as unusual if you stopped playing in March. You could have just got unlucky and they brute forced the account.

Run a virus scan, but i wouldn't expect it to pick anything up. If you have WoW installed, run the repair application. Search through the main folder yourself for any unusual files as well.

Check to make sure no one else knows your details and if your not playing anymore, contact Blizzard and ask them to freeze the account.

They added a Wrath of the Lich King 10 Day Trial on it, so that explains how they got it to work. I'm surprised they didn't just change the email address and password instead of sending me an email for an authenticator.

Anyways, too late to check that stuff right now. I'll do it tomorrow.

Oh, and P.S. Thanks for the picture of RoboCop riding a Unicorn. That's going on my free mousepad I just ordered.

RoboCop isn't really 'riding' on it, if you catch my drift.

And it's not because you receive spam that tries to get your account info by leading you to a fake site, that you're actually hacked or whatever. The level 1 stuff might be an error from Blizzard. I'd start by contacting them.

Still, get an antivirus (Avast if you're a cheap bastard), Malwarebytes anti-malware and something like spybot search & destroy.

I would call blizzard, but account hackings have been more and more common these days, with spam email, to brute force hacking, the other main thing is, blizzard are now getting people to tie most of their game range to the Bnet account, (you can link your old games as well) but everything from SC2 onward will be linked to it, which means account hacking will be worse, and to be honest, not sure if this game linking to the Bnet account is such a good idea anyway, especailly with the level of fraud and hacking anyway

if you do manage to get your account back, my advise is, buy a authenticator, they are around 5 pounds, not sure what that is in dollars and euros, but they do add another layer of security, and pretty simple to setup and use, I also read that they might become compulsory at some point of the hacking continues

also I would use a very strong password if you aren't already, even if it may take a bit to log back in, weak passwords are easy broken

    anyway that is my advise

I used a couple varieties of antivirus and spyware programs and managed to remove anything suspicious.

Anyway, secured my account and email (whose smart idea was it to list your email with your account?) by making gibberish passwords seeing as my last one wasn't that secure. Might get that mobile authenticator thing so they can't fuck me over with that again.

Anyway, thanks for the help bros.
