How did you discover Fallout ?

Fallout Tactics is a really under-appreciated game, not a full fallout experience, but it sure holds its own!
I think, for a long time it was confused with the similarily themed but widely hated "Fallout, Brotherhood of Steel", and avoided by most.
Today "Fallout BOS" is thankfully forgotten, and Fallout Tactics is being rediscovered by many

I hope you find a version that works for you, but I had issues making it work myself, and I'm on PC, required some sort of patch...

Yeah, I read about that around on the web.

I know that too. I remember many years ago, when I go to the shop looking for some games many time I watch "Brotherhood of Steel" sometimes I thought to buy that but at the end I never do it ^^'

Yeah, we (this forum) were a tad.... Harsh....
But learning how interplay corporate and herve caen rushed development also helped in the communities reaction to it.

When the pre-release trailer for Fallout 4 came out in 2015, I thought, "Wow, this looks really cool," but at that point my computer wouldn't let me play Fallout 4, so I started getting interested in the previous games in the series. I played Fallout 3, New Vegas, and then when there was a big graphical downgrade in Fallout 4, I picked it up. At the time, I really enjoyed Fallout 3 and 4 (I played them for about 250 hours). Later, after a while, I fell in love with Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 1, and Fallout 2.

I had a friend who was a massive southern Hick who told me about fallout 3 but new Vegas already came out so I started with new Vegas which is a good thing because that's the best fall out of my mind.
Then a friend of mine gifted me his original fallout 1 and 2 discs and all the manuals I mean there's really no skin off his back 'cause he has like 3 copies.

Dude that's awesome

In my own case it was a friend from elementary school moving back to Louisiana. He was in need of a stable mailing address for his package from Interplay to be sent. When it arrived, I gave it to him, and when he was done with the anthology set he gifted it to me. That was where I discovered Norse By Norse West, Redneck Rampage, Battle Chess, and Fallout.

My uncle tried to get me to play fallout 3 in 2010. I was a scaredy cat in regards to things like Cod Zombies, so even ghouls pushed me out of it. But eventually I came round to fallout, if not late, 2014 fallout 4, atrocious f76 demo or beta, it also ran so poorly, then years of trying to get into new vegas, like i had bought all the dlc and was just sitting on it for years. Did two NV playthroughs in april 2022. Then a poor playthrough of fallout 3, i hate the game's aesthetics, anchorage was nice tho. The enclave airfield dlc too.

edit* did NV in 2022

I started playing fallout 2 in 2022, the aesthetics were wonderful, i like the californian bushes and vegetation a lot. Although gameplay was too much out of my preferences.
And I'm multi, fps, third personbs, RTS, Turn Based strat, RPGS, Visual Novels, Racing games, Fighter jets etc, stealth games, immerisve sims im willing to play most genres, but that classic fallout isometric style is too heavy for me.

Oh man, I'm not the only one who was scared to death of zombies when I was a kid, haha, good times

Tried to play fallout 3, ironically enough, by around 2015-2016? I thought it was the most boring shit ever so I uninstalled it pretty much instantly. Went on with my life thinking fallout was more boring bethesda slop (same thing happened with skyrim) and only really paid attention to the funny vault boy shorts for fallout 4...even back then I knew the game was shit, but those were pretty good ads. Makes sense, that's the only reason the numbered east coast games got attention, honestly, excessive marketing.

Got into other RPGs later on which really emphasized freedom (including JRPGs, cause yes, having any choice in one is a rarity, especially older ones), one thing lead to another and I played VTMB, did a bit of digging and it turns out fallout was always pretty cool. Now the west coast games are pretty much some of my personal GOATs.

I'd curse out bethesda, but in an odd twist of fate, it was probably for the best that I got into fallout later on. I don't think I'd properly appreciate new vegas as a teenager. Ironically enough the only reason I decided to play 3 and not new vegas, was because the title made NV sound like a spinoff...

...yeah...

...it's funny in retrospect how I didn't even know the full extent as to why fallout 3 was terrible, bethesda games in general just have a method of sucking away your will to live. Some people say newcomers like Fo3, which no, not really...unless you're Matthew Perry, which is the one W Fo3 gets in this household.

Fallout 2 was one of the first games that I've played on my family Pentium sometime around 2000's. I don't even remember what Pentium was it. Absolutely fallen in love with this game. I was around 12 at the time, and dad brought the disc. And I've played it as extensive as I could on account that it wasn't my computer. And I loved it so much, that, I think, it shaped my interests in further games, leaning towards well written stories, immersive enviromental storytelling and well structured questlines. Damn, I even learned english because of that game! I remember that namely because of that game I was sitting in front of my computer with english dictionary beside my keyboard all the time! Wow, what a timejump..

So, then, for some reason, I didn't played the first game in the franchise. I don't know how that happened. I've played bunch of other games like Unreal and Deus Ex, StarCraft, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and.. so on and so forth, but all this time I remember that I wanted to find some game that may be somewhat similar to my beloved Fallout 2. Isn't that strange? Should I mention that I very much love Arcanum, Planescape and Silent Hill 2?

And then, around 2013 I've got New Vegas on my very own laptop. It was terrible. Because of the laptop, of course. But not that terrible for me to not beat the game along with Dead Monkey and Old World Blues, love them both btw, but Dead Monkey is my favorite. I remember that I could not go into Divide because of my laptop's specs wasn't enough or something. There were some huge lag spikes and overall frames were way too low, something about 10-15. It was awful. I was not interested in Honest Hearts at the time, and I don't remember why.

After some time I've got me a Fallout 3 thinking: "Well, if New Vegas was so good, then it can't be that all that I hear of Bethesda's Fallout reboot is true... There must be something that I would love about this game.."
I've tried it several times throughout the years, and I cannot stand what is going on in the Megaton and shortly after. So every time I start playing Fallout 3, I stop around me getting past Megaton. So I don't even know this game well, because technically I did't played it.

Year back I've tried playing 4 and 76, but shortly after I start I feel like I need to force myself to play it. Typically at that point I just drop the game.

Hey, it's my first post here on NMA. So have a nice day, yall!
