I never liked Cass. She just seemed like a miserable alcoholic drowning her sorrows in whiskey and bullet casings.

Agreed. I still feel bad handing her over to the Van Graffs, though - maybe I could justify it if they had a longer, more interesting quest line and a slide of their own at the end.

I hated Raul but not as a character. I just remember doing his long ass sidequest to unlock his bandito uniform or whatever it was called then the game bugged and he never unlocked it after the quest was completed.

Never used him as a companion again.

Ah yes, Raul's quest is famous for it's bugginess.

Cass is my personal unfavourite, from a gameplay stance anyway. You can't have her as a companion until you start working for Crimson Caravan despite the fact she's one of the first companions you can meet. And even then her main weapon is a caravan shotgun which I don't really like, and she can use dynamite though she'll probably blow you up with it.

Cass' shotgun does suck, but you can of course give her much better weapons -like an assault carbine. Let her rip with one of those and plenty of ammo and the Van Graff family will be dead in about two minutes. While I found her personality to be a bit grating, I do think she is actually one of the most versatile companions in terms of gameplay.

    Me, personally? ED-E.

There's something about a highly advanced, data-packed Enclave robot that is conveniently shot down ever so easily by raiders, picked up and basically ignored by everyone, only to be rejuvenated by the random Courier, that annoys me. What sense did it make to send such vital data using an eyebot that doesn't even attempt to dodge or sneak its way to the destination? If nothing else, ED-E should have at least been tricked out, like a dedicated combat reconnaissance bot with a sophisticated AI, but instead it has bumper stickers on it... Give me a break. I'd rather have picked up that Mr. Gutsy from Nipton. At least his anti-commie phrases would have livened things up.

Uhmm did you play Lonesome Road or read the logs? ED-E has no AI, and he was sent out int othe wasteland because the Enclave wanted to dismantle him and his creator had grown attached to it and didn't want to "kill" him, his mission is a phony one, deviced just to get him away from the hands of the Enclave.

I specifically said he 'should have had' AI, and didn't, making him even less compelling.

And no, I never pursued ED-E past the vanilla game's arc. But that really doesn't change much, does it? You're still sending a data-packed and more or less defenseless bot (shown both in the cutscene where it's shot down, and in-game where it utterly blows) cross-country where it is conveniently ignored by a great many people for a considerable length of time. You don't even find it in the hands of powerful people trying to figure it out, or out in the deepest depths of the wastes: You run into it on some old guy's desk in a random town, being told that it's been there since "a while back." All of this in a universe where Enclave Vertibirds are now legend, and the NCR hunts down Enclave members with laser precision. That doesn't strike you as being pretty weak? It's on par with Daisy Whitman explicitly and openly using the word "Vertibird" when describing her piloting experience, while simultaneously refusing to state whom she flew it for, making the deduction simple enough for a chimpanzee.

Regarding the last part, the BoS, according to the cannon, had Vertibirds, thanks to the Chosen One stealing plans from Navarro.

Did you forget how easy it was to kill Eyebots in Fallout 3? Besides, im sure that wasnt the first time ED-E was shot by someone, the Raiders shooting him near Primm were probably just the final nail in the temporary coffin.

Anyway, I dont HATE any companion, but I tend to avoid recruiting Cass, mostly so I dont have to do her quest that eventually leads to the Van Graffs getting killed (oh, i hate them a lot, but me liking Energy Weapons, they are one of only two places, the other being the post Eyesight To The Blind/ Tend To Your Business Hidden Valley Bunker, that sell Energy Weapons)

I do not hate any of the companions personally, but I think that Arcade and Cass are probably the most arrogant ones

Speaking of Myron, Me and Myron out cruisin, we run into an encounter, don't remember what, something medium-high, possibly LA press gangs or something. Anyway, it's the RP, I have been nice and provided most my buddies with some tobacco, weed, and lighters :D

I have Myron set on "any drugs any time", and as the battle begins, I notice Myron *uses* his marijuana :D

First I'm thinking is damn, Myron, of ALL times you could pick to get wasted... :D

I think it has something to do with her being told to go west when you
    buy her caravan or something

If you start picking up evil karma (and/or NCR infamy? not honestly sure) after you recruit her, she'll have words with you. You can promise to change your ways and she'll give you another chance or two, but if you keep it up she'll tell you she's got to part ways.

At this point, you can even piss her off to the point where she'll throw down and you've got to kill her. Very handy during my "not evil, but kind of a bitch" playthrough when I needed her dead to further the Van Graff questline but wasn't amoral enough to stand by while Jean-Baptiste executed her.

Speaking of Cass and the Van Graffs i wish there was a peaceful solution, like, you can convince Van Graffs to let her live if you have a high Speech and Energy Weapons skill, intimidating them into backing off and skipping the objective to kill Cass. And if you decided to turn in the evidence to Ranger Jackson, the Van Graffs wont be hostile but will be aware of what you did and WILL charge you extra, same with Crimson Caravan. Or if you decide to implore Cass to leave, you can tell Jean that she is heading back to California. He will be pissed that he wasnt able to indulge his bloodlust, but will begrudgingly admit that atleast she is gotten rid of, and the quest will go on as usual. This is also because in order to get the GRA Van Graff weapons to transfer over to Gun Runners, you have to kill Gloria, thus failing the peaceful option.

Dude, the Van Graffs are full on Merchant Mafia with a huge amount of power back in NCR lands, their two representatives are two ruthless fuckers backed by an army of thugs in combat armor and plasma rifles, I find it hard to swallow that they could even be able to be intimidated by some mailman with fancy words, they also don't shy away from acts of violence and murder, so why would they be passive agressive with some dude that just fucked them? I mean, Cassidy's Caravan and the other 2 were just small competition and they still vaporized them.

Agreed. The Van Graffs don't fuck around; there's no way you could cross them and show your face in the store again.

I just wish there was a more compelling reason for an aspiring soldato stormtrooper to join the faction; all you get from them is some crappy armor (which you can get anyway if you kill them) and some minor fame. I think they (and the Vegas Families), should have played a bigger role in the endings, especially if you choose Independent Vegas. You'd think Gloria's ruthlessness and ambition would have made her and the family more than just bit players in the struggle for the Mojave. Maybe it's just because I'm a total Plasma Spaz, but the Van Graffs are probably my favorite minor faction in the game.

That said, vaporizing them and grabbing their metric ton of ammo is extremely satisfying (especially for an Energy Weapons specialist), and that's usually what I end up doing.

I did their quest once on their side, it's kind of cool, they play a group of Legion people for fools and get some major push with the Mojave operation of the NCR, but you don't get an special ending and then I felt dirty for having double crossed one of my favorite companions...
