time limit of finding GECK?

Is there a time limit on finding the GECK, I am getting the ugly dude popping up telling me that the village is dying!

There is no real time limit, it's just there to give you a sense of urgency ;)

I had similar experiences as Rad Static; I do not remember what version of vanilla FO2 I was using at the time, but I distinctly remember having multiple instances where after 4 hakunin dreams and not having entered Vault 13 that the game would end returning me to the main screen.

Perhaps that was a bug in one of the versions of the game, but I took that as an intended part of the game, and will be doing the test again in the near future to see if it is still a part of the game.

Because if it is NOT I will be VERY disappointed. I think that having consequences for your actions is INTEGRAL to an RPG, and Dicking Around Playing Pattycake With Hookers and Mr. HandyBots While Your Village Is Starving To Death... is something I am strongly convinced should have consequences.

Now I am not sure about it Ending the game, but I am entirely convinced that you should not be able to get a "Good Ending" if you let your village starve to death.

Okay, sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but this is an interesting thing to me that I wasn't aware of, until recently.

I could not find any kind of screenshot or video showing this legendary "THE END" screen, so I was going to check it out for myself. I accidentally learned that with SFall (which is a part of Restoration Project) you can change the time limit in ddraw.ini, making it being less than 13 years or turning it off completely. With 0 set in the related value ("TimeLimit=X", where X is a value), you can force the game to show this legendary screen as soon as you leave Arroyo.

Unfortunately, for some reason this screen is broken for me, because I can see only borders of it, with the middle being a black square (may be related to the changed resolution). I still can hear the creepy sound though.

Is there anyone willing to check this out and provide a screenshot of this legendary screen if it's correctly displayed for them?

EDIT:
Okay guys. I actually managed to do that. Enjoy this little piece of a poor video that shows the legendary THE END screen, with its unique sound as well:

Quoted from the official Fallout 2 FAQ: "There is a hard coded time limit in the engine for 13 years, but other than that, you don't need to complete the main plot within a certain time period."

Well, I do need to complete the main plot within a certain time period. my save is about 1 day from automatically losing. Maybe this is because I'm running the unofficial 1.02.25 patch or whatever, but I do indeed need to complete the main quest or die, and I'm now unable to get the GECK and return in time.

What happens to you if you don't bring the GECK back in time? Nothing?

Consequences for actions, yes. Automatically dying in New Mexico because a bunch of chumps in Oregon/Washington/wherever who can't feed themselves starved to death, no. That's retarded magic right there.
