Fallout 2 mod Fallout 2: Weapons Redone v2.3

I'm asking because Vault 15 looks like it was intended to be a very tough fight, but because of this oversight by Black Isle it is currently extremely easy, and I've been wanting to do this change myself for a while.

Yeah. What say you, killap? That totally sounds like something that should be fixed.

SO I just installed this mod let's see if it works as advertised. So far my sfall got updated to 3.6 and RP got mad about that so I had to manually edit the ddraw.ini to make it RP compliant. I like the small changes to melee and throwing making all weapons equally valid. I am already using Yet Another Ammo Mod to fix AP/JHP issue but I believe this mod already has a fix for that let's see it if conflicts or makes AP next level better than plasma by bumping it twice :-)

Let me read trough the changes once more to be ready.

I created my character like me skinny nerd guy no Gifted trait cheating cause I'm not gifted . Even gave myself science skills and small frame and silly traits that make sense. So it's gonna be the real me in the game.

Let me know how it goes!

Some comments to your comments:

If you have the RP, the F2WR installer will recommend that you only update the ddraw.dll (option 2). It sounds to me like you chose to update both the .dll and the .ini, which would explain why you got the warning from the RP. Selecting sfall-option 2 in the installer should make the RP happy, or do as you did and update the .ini manually.

Running this mod with YAAM enabled in ddraw.ini will probably cause huge problems, they are not intended to be run together. The F2WR installer will automatically turn YAAM off, but you can still enable it after installing if you're feeling masochistic...

Your character sounds cool! I'm kind of a Strength, Endurance, Intelligence guy, but low Agility and Perception. Tagged Outdoorsman, Speech and Science.

Melee damage now also applies to minimum damage, which gives quite a boost to most of the creatures in the game. The Temple of Trials might kick your ass if you're very skinny. You can run through it, and come back to stomp the scorpions later when you've got the Melee and Unarmed training. Also, Golden Geckos are murderous deathmonsters if you encounter them early. Drop Meat Jerky on the ground to distract them (I learned only last week that you can do this!).

If you're having trouble with a big fight, consider using Dynamite. It's much more powerful now, and you can throw it when it's armed (send Metzger a surprise through his window after locking the door...) Buffout will give a much more noticeable boost to damage for Melee characters, and Psycho is still almost a cheat.

Any character can benefit very much from having Throwing at around 50 or more. This will let you use grenades fairly well, and grenades are awesome.

Be afraid of random encounters. They will kill you if you're going solo, unless you are very powerful.

Use AP or FMJ ammo against Aliens, Centaurs, Floaters, Super Mutants, Fire Geckos and enemies in Metal Armor or above. JHP is the superior choice for leather armor.

So I have tested and played your mod so for so good. Seems like all weapons are more realistic and deal more damage and fighting is more scary. Also I noticed guns have higher hit % than before and melee deal more damage.

I am installing a new windows cause XP is causing issues for me but I will go for disabling YAAM this time.

I changed my champ just a tad bit made him very similar to your actually except i went Small Guns, Lockpick and Science. I always take Lockpick is so handy. And I kinda went 7 on INT and 6 STR, 4 END and 5 CHA, 7 AGL so he's more warrior like.

I like the idea of ore weapons is hilarious. I think I am going to install this and Killap every time now. I tried MI88 but mod seemed broken.

...if you're feeling masochistic...

I guess I've been feeling masochistic. I keep trying to run an ironman porn star! Gifted and Sex Appeal, with Sneak, Speech and Outdoorsman. ST:05 PE:06 EN:08 CH:09 IN:07 AG:08 LK:04. The idea is that she can sign a contract at the Golden Globes the same day she arrives in New Reno. Problem is, so far she hasn't even made it as far as Modoc...

Drop Meat Jerky on the ground to distract [golden geckos] (I learned only last week that you can do this!).

I don't really get why people seemingly think reflectivity will do jack spit to lasers. It doesn't. As anyone who's ever visited Atomic Rockets would know, the reflectivity of the material in question would be instantly destroyed by the beam even if it was 99% reflective. Lasers function astounding much like bullets do; the only thing that stops them is simply putting mass in their way, they just don't inflict BFT in the same way(it's technically a series of steam explosions)and have better penetration through most materials(especially flesh, which it can easily blast out inch-wide wound tracks over 2 feet in length) except those that have very high vaporization energies such as carbon or boron; diamondoid or boron-silicate armor would take a significant amount of bite out of any laser, but it would still penetrate a couple inches.

I don't know where you get your pseudoscience from. Extensive studies have revealed that, under normal circumstances, a laser is a droplet-shaped, deep red bolt of solid light which travels at roughly 100km/h in a straight line from wherever it was fired, and bounces off any reflective surface until it dissipates spontaneously after 30-40 meters, depending on which weapon was used.

Certain laser emitters, such as the ones used in Gatling Lasers, are able to fire laser bolts that are so microscopically tiny that they appear invisible to the naked eye, but still do the same amount of damage as normal-sized ones on impact.

Your theory is appealing, but it doesn't hold water in practice.

That was the first good laugh all day XD

The man-portable laser weapons in the Fallout games are fantasy weapons which can't exist in the modern real world, and probably won't in the future one, either. There's just no way to supply/generate sufficient power for such a small weapon, unless you get completely silly and talk about something like a Zero Point Module or a dilithium powered whatsis.

But they're fun!

i doubt any lazer weapons show that colorful bolt ray that instantly scorch a surface and or get deflected by mirrors.

lazer weapons in reality are more like heat rays or giant laser pointers they take a bit of time to do damage and they heat up an area until it bursts into flame. some lasers are no even visible to the naked eye and look like giant flashlights. they are using laser technology to destroy incoming missiles by pointing a laser ray at a rocket head until it explodes. takes a bit of time and is deff not starwars colorful lines that sizzle whatever they touch.

i think technically speaking solar scorcher is most realistic laser weapon in fallout

[edit] note that this fact does not make this mod any less good : )

Back during the Cold War I heard rumors that the Soviets were working on a one-shot antitank laser. It would have been powered by a generator whose turbines would have been spun by the exhaust of an attached rocket. No idea if there is any truth to that.

Another idea that actually could work would be an antiship laser powered by a small nuclear explosion. So if you're cool with the tactical use of nuclear weapons, hey.

And yes. This mod does rock!

Wouldn't it be more effective to... y'know, launch the rocket at the tank? Or the fucking nuke at the ship?

Actually we are Almost capable of hand-held laser rifles with a 1 kilo lithium ion battery. It just won't have many charges. It would have to be a complex battery though, utilizing a series of smaller batteries in order to discharge enough power at once to power the laser, or maybe utilize a bunch of super capacitors. We have had a recent breakthrough in battery technology though, they've finally figured out how to get working lithium-sulfur batteries that at minimum will have twice the capacity of lithium ion. Molten-salt metal batteries have even High energy densities than that, and experimental molten-metal air batteries have achieved energy densities comparable to diesel.

Another limitation is getting a quick and robust switching system capable of discharging a series of rapid high energy pulses in a matter of nano seconds, but as computer processors continue the march of progress that shouldn't be an issue for too long.

Neat thing is, once we have batteries capable of powering lasers, we'd also have batteries capable of running railguns. Imagine a railgun-variant of a P90 with a 300 round helical magazine and a muzzle velocity of 3km/s with recoil comparable to an m-16.

One of the most devastating weapons modern day humanity has conceived of is the space-based Casaba Howitzer, which is basically a giant, one-shot kill-vehicle deploying a nuclear-powered directed energy weapon capable of nailing something with a star-core hot spear of plasma, which is the main way you'd get around nuclear weapons generally sucking ass in space.

A laser powered by a nuclear bomb is a bit counter-intuitive and dangerous. They DO have explosive flux compression generators, which are basically one-shot power generators that use a chemical explosive to instantly generate millions of amps and would be ideal for quickly generating a ridiculously powerful laser beam or firing a railgun. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explosively_pumped_flux_compression_generator

While some might question the efficiency of using a bomb to power a laser, considering there is no way to evade said laser, when it comes to intercepting something it's actually a more efficient use of explosives than trying to hit it with conventional rounds that would miss 98% of the time due to being too slow.

There are two types of lasers really. Continuous beam lasers, which are basically heat rays, that slowly melt through a target, then there are impulse-kill lasers, which utilize considerably higher energies in order to cause the target material to explosively vaporize, dubbed 'blasters'. The blasters function a lot like a laser 'drill', each individual pulse in the pulse-train blasting out a deeper and deeper hole, like a series of old-school m-80's exploding against/in your flesh. Once energy density considerably exceeds the 400j/cm2 required to cause 'Exposed flesh to flash into steam, flaying exposed body areas to the bone', it tends to get rather messy.

that's not entirely true . there are many other types of lasers . for ex:

tractor beam. essentially two pressure generating lasers one that pulls and one that pushes. these lasers do not melt anything but only create negative or positive pressure.

a version of pressure laser is freezing ray laser which forces particles to stand still freezing them.

there is relativistic laser beam which a laser beam travelling close to speed of light . this beam doesn't have to be hot or powerful it simply needs to be fast. when the beam hits a surface the energy of it's momentum is so high that is simply blows anything apart.

oh and btw most of these technologies exist although not like in games .

freezing ray is essentially a laser cooling mechanism for ex bosse einstein condensate is made using such a system by reducing temp of a substance close to 0 kelvin.

relativistic laser beam is essentially a particle accelerator or synchotron . the relativistic part is the magnetic system that accelerates the laser beam pulse.

tractor beam does exist although not like startrek. is more like it can move around really small things .

so not all lasers burn , melt things.

Duhhh... Isn't light always the speed of light? How can you make a laser any slower than the speed of light? Unless you shoot it through some silly high density translucent medium, but why would you do that?
