Fallout: F.I.S.S.I.O.N.*
*Flexible Isometric Simulation System for Interactive Open‑world Nuclear‑roleplaying

Fallout: F.I.S.S.I.O.N. is a next‑generation, cross‑platform reimplementation of Fallout 1 & 2 (Fallout2-CE) that preserves the original isometric, turn‑based gameplay while adding modern enhancements, widescreen support, and true community‑driven extensibility. Run it on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS—and even in browsers.

No really, what is this?
Well, all the fancy shmancy grandstanding aside, this is really just a branch of the Fallout2-CE engine, built on the work of Alex Batalov, and the Fallout2-CE crew of @roginvs, @malaise_chalk, and a few others.

I have been chipping away at a custom version for a final "English" release of Fallout Sonora, and this is a derivative of that effort. It is by no means something I am committed to fully, but I felt it wouldn't hurt to release/build something somewhat robust and useful, outside of a specific use for Fallout Sonora.

My focus has mainly (as always) been on the macOS end of things, so what I have so far is strictly tested there. I really have little idea of how things play out on Windows, Linux, Android, iOS etc. I have not tested things there.
Nevertheless, I have builds ready to go for these OS's, so those who are willing to take a risk can try them out and see if they work. I'd be very happy to receive any feedback on that.

So what features are we talking about then?

Currently "most" of the features included in Fallout2-CE are present. These include:
  • Many bug fixes
  • Small gameplay tweaks
  • Pathfinding fixes
  • Hi-res support
  • Pipboy pagination
  • Expanded save slots
  • Interface/graphics fixes & enhancements
  • ...and more
I will have to make a full feature list later. There is some sFall support, but FISSION is leaning away from that, for the sake of simplicity.

The main effort:
The focus has been on making Fallout F.I.S.S.I.O.N. properly/natively support widescreen monitors.

What this involved:
  • Hand-editing all interface files to a new widescreen format
  • Adding code offsets to allow switching between widescreen and default monitor ratios
  • Gathering these and other changes into an in-game interface

This allows, I hope, Fallout F.I.S.S.I.O.N. to be the easiest way to set up and get going with Fallout. At least a no-frills, basic game set up.
You can literally:
  • Drop it into your install
  • Run it
  • Set up your preferences in-game
  • Play

If you would like to try out the current build, you can find it at the link below:

Please keep in mind this is very much a work in progress - nevertheless, I hope it is currently stable enough to handle complete play-throughs. If you encounter bugs or issues, please report here, or on the github repository. I will endeavor to fix/patch/support what I can. No promises though. So test/use at your own risk.

Sounds very nice and like a big effort. So thank you.
However, under iOS I have no use for this, since I cannot install it... Will take some years and pressure for Apple to open up its platform.

Is there a difference between the fission.dat provided for Windows x86 edition or Windows x64, or they’re all the same?

I sideloaded the app to iPhone and copied the Nevada RUS fangame (and then translated the texts to English with a translation made by a fan) from one of the items listed in the Fallout Database, launched Fallout Fission API (without master.dat & critters.dat), error message popped up as expected. Then I copied these .dat files and tried launching it another time, a new message popped up asking for a fission.dat which was not provided for iOS edition of Fallout Fission, unsure what to do, I tried to use the fission.dat from x64 edition (Win) and it didn’t help at all.

How to solve this, Cambragol?

I was never able to test the iphone build, so no surprise here. The fission.dat should be built into the .ipa, unless something was off in the make files. The other issue might be the path in the fallout2.cfg - the internal fission has its path set by default. If you have over written the fallout.cfg, or used your own, the path would be lost. Erasing the fallout2.cfg will (should) regenerate it with the correct path to the fission.dat

Try that and let me know if it works.

Ah the fission file is packed into the API, I’m a fool!
I opened the IPA in 7Zip and it was there, yup.

I’m still receiving the same message from my previous post (the screenshot) after the removal of the fallout2.cfg file, unfortunately!

The error is in my defaults for iOS - I have this set:
fission_dat=Fallout-Fission.app/Contents/Resources/fission.dat

But I don't think that will work. I will have to check and then rebuild a release.

Edit:

This path should work:
Fallout-Fission.app/fission.dat

@Zaius238 I have built that into the .cfg defaults for iOS. You can try it from the link above now, or just plug it in yourself. Let me know if it works.

Is Fallout F.I.S.S.I.O.N. supposed to add a folder into the tablet and smartphone, after successfully sideloading it?
I have Fallout 1 Community Edition in my iPhone and it can’t be accessed through Files (the iOS pre-installed application), I can only explore it on my PC unlike Fallout F.I.S.S.I.O.N.

The updated IPA is still causing problems with Fallout of Nevada, unfortunately, but thanks, Cambragol.

I tried Nevada 1.00 and Nevada 2.0.3.4 (Fallout of Nevada Extended mod), I somehow managed to load Nevada 1.00 (intro video works, credits will roll, I can change violence level and other settings and select one of the premade characters), but it immediately freezes with a black screen before it can load the starting map.
Nevada 2.0.3.4 won’t even load the main menu screen, it will only display the following:

I spent more than 4 hours trying to get it to work, I’m frankly tired of this. I guess it can’t be helped, having access to Fallout of Nevada while I’m out and about is not feasible, until I get another device such as a Steamdeck or a ROG Ally handheld that is.

I really can't say regarding iOS, as I can't even get the testing environment/simulator to run. So it is just crossed fingers for the iOS build. It's too bad you couldn't get it working. I did test it with the original download from Nevada Band, and I can run the game, splash screens, videos, the whole shebang. Not sure if it is fully playable i.e. can be finished, but I think the versions of Fallout-CE FISSION was built on can.

Until I can get the Xcode simulator working testing/bug fixing iOS is not feasible.

Thanks for trying though!
