This kind of stuff, really gets the cynic out of me.

I love history, I love old structures and it's terrible when they are destroyed regardless why. But how long has it been now? 2 Days? And there have been 1 Billion Euros donated to restore it and If I understood this correctly most of the money was donated by a handfull of people. I swear this kind of stuff grinds my gears.

There is for sure no country, that has no issues. Be it with poverty, low wages, issues with the infrastructure, education, you name it. And often when I talk about those issues, it usually comes down to, It needs more money! And Who's going to pay for it?! I mean, there are people literaly dieing, because certain issues aren't fixed. And they could be fixed. Tomorrow. If simply the right people cared enough about it.

But, people are not 800 year old churches I am afraid. I guess I have to understand this. That's how it works. And I am the idiot.

Anyway, just had to get this off my chest.

Well, there is only one Notre Dame, there's a shitload of people, most of which won't go down in history like the Notre Dame.

There'll always be more people, but there's only one official Notre Dame.

Besides, it's not like the 1%'ers can't chuck money at Notre Dame's reconstruction AND help solve these vague issues you talk about. By all means criticize the rich bugs for not doing enough but I don't see why the Notre Dame's funding needs to be brought up. It's easy to fix the Notre Dame. Someone is already working on it, so all they need is funding and there is only one end state to this and that is this one singular building being restored. It's not as easy to just throw money at other societal ills and expect it to just work out. Healthcare for example does not have an end state, it will always be in flux. So even if they threw money at it to just magically fix it it wouldn't be fixed forever and the money might have ended up being wasted as it just turns into a different kind of shit.

Who knows? Maybe the next Newton, Hawking or Pasteur died due to poverty or a famine or who knows what else. In any case, a building, even a historical one, isn't worth 'human' lives for me at least.

In about 2-3 days a billion Euros have been raised. Seriously, other causes are trying to get money for decades. And it's not even just about charity, a lot of very pressing issues, from education to health care and the infrastructure are underfunded. When ever that topic comes up, I am met with, but the money isn't there! Well, it is. If it can be donated in just a few days. I guess fighting poverty or helping the homeless in a country, isn't important after all. You know, the people in Paris also rioted because of the pressing social issues the nation of France is facing.

Besides, why are the 1% not trying to save the biggest cathedral of them all? You say they can do both.

Notre Dame can be rebuild, the nature we're losing right now, well, is kinda lost for ever. I mean I am an atheist, but let us say you're a devoted christian. What do you believe will please the Lord more? Saving the planet from ecological disaster, or rebuilding a church? What could be more important in the end?

How about that, 1 billion to save the great barrier reef? Do you see that happening any time soon? Possibly by Oil Companies and Luxury Corporations.

    Well, I don't. And that's the point.

Your argument is a logical fallacy again, in the same breath you could say this money being donated made sure the next Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, or Karl Marx weren't born to extremely screw up he planet more.

The simple fact is the more the Guberment gets involved with a problem the less it is felt by the individual to contribute due to the fact the Guberment is already forcing them to contribute. So in a case like this the 1%'s who worked there a$$'s off to get to where they are see an opportunity to help where nobody is already forcing them to help so they choose to do so. Maybe if we backed off on Taxing the crap out of people for social issues and watching the Guberment's waste the money not on the issues they were supposed to, we would see these people willing to donate vast quantities to help these causes. Right now they are the Guberments problem as the Guberment made it there problem.

  6. Meh.

Notre Dame was a symbol of oppression from the patriarchal bourgeoisie.

These symbols must be destroyed in order to promote up to date inclusive values.

They are in the middle of constructing the rebuilt model anyways.

    Here is the concept.

I just couldn't care for it. Not religious, not French, never liked Gothic Architecture - fuck yea Romanesque.

And now Macron is falling head over heels to gather cash for it, designs for it, reconstruction for it. Meanwhile the Yellow Vests are what - 30 weeks in?

That's going to be a fucking PR disaster. As the initial horror from those who cream themselves about the building subside, they're going to ask why the state can rush so much cash so quickly for this one building the state has always let fall apart for hundreds of years now rather than their issues or the welfare state. And it's a valid fucking question! Billionaires, the government, the Church can all get together like this in days, but when it's to maintain the welfare state or about taxes and standard of living it becomes a grueling quagmire of a mess.

Yeah, of course it is a fallacy, I am aware about that. But does that make it less of an issue or true in this case?

What makes me thinking here, is the scale and timeframe. A billion Euros in just 2-3 days. I mean seriously. That should raise some eye brows. It's not the first time by the way. Remember the banking crysis? Usually it takes months if not years for our parliament here to decide on something important. But here? Literaly over night, billions.

Makes it kinda clear, whos runing the show in my opinion. And it aint the homeless.

So yeah it is a question rather than a fallacy. Why can money be collected so quick for this subject and not other pressing social issues?

Wait a min, you seriously believe that?

Why should it raise anything? The same investment funds owned by the same billionaires have been supporting environmental activists, or non-profit organisations helping migrants all across the globe with much larger amount of money for decades. In return Europe got child raping packs such as those moslems from Oulu in Finland.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oulu_child_sexual_exploitation_scandal

Question: did you raise eyebrow when imported moslems started raping kids in Oulu?
Answer: fuck no, you didn't raise your fucking eyebrow at all.

You bet your balls it's not the first time, imported child raping gangs started rampaging cities in UK long ago.

    No shit, Sherlock.

Buildings cannot rape kids unlike imported social issues.

Please allow me to retort. *ahem* Fuck smug pretentious parasites sucking the blood from their host country, who constantly bitch about what other people do with their money because they think it is unfair that the people aren't giving the money to them or supporting whatever bullshit fantasy land idea they spout this week to get that dopamine rush when they signal how enlightened they are.

I agree, a building is more important than people are. The cathedral allows an american like me whose never even heard it before to pretend I have a culture beyond PF changs.

    TGM: Exactly.
Legal loopholes in EU laws allowing top level thievery such as Cumex-files responsible for tens (65+) of billions € loss are much more worrisome than a French billionaire spending his own hundred million on whatever he wish, be it cathedral or ship for non-profit organization.

I don't own anything manufactured by Musk and I never bought anything from Amazon and never would. As long as other folks find Tesla cars or Amazon useful and keep supporting them, I'm perfectly fine with it though.

Jeff Bezos lost 36 billion in his divorce and still has over a hundred left and is still the richest man on earth. He could probably singlehandedly catapult us into the thermonuclear age and still be pissing platinum for the rest if his life. Elon Musk could stop shitposting on Twitter and doing stupid shit like making batteries and tunnels and invest his money properly.
Ok, no, he shouldn't stop shitposting.
Peter Thiel did good, though, he invested in helion energy and tried to convince Trump to be smart for once and invest in nuclear fusion, too.

That Notre Dame is not even Notre Dame it was supposed be. So, meh?
The real Notre Dame was lying in ruins until it was rebuilt in XIX century. With much frivolity in mind of the architect.
