How did you discover Fallout ?

I was told about Fallout by a friend, a very long time ago, got addicted instantly, don't really have an idea how many times I lost myself in the game

I was a student back in 97/98 and was in a local games shop and was looking at the Fallout 1 box (back when PC games came in large cardboard boxs). I just looked at the pictures of this isometric game with guns and wrongfully assumed the game was going to be like the old crusader no remorse games (that's where my avatar is from BTW). I of course didn't read anything and got sucked in by the pretty pictures and bought the game. Later that day I was like WTF? This is a turn-based RPG not an isometric shooter, luckily I liked RPGs and back then turn-based games were still somewhat common. It didn't take long to realise this game was a total gem.

I still remember holding that box in my hands looking at it, I was either 18 or 19 at the time and I'm 42 now. Damn, I got old.

I can still feel the sense of awe at the fallout vibe, when looking at this old computer with tape spools and the description saying it was a highly advanced computer lol

I remember feeding Dogmeat for the first time and him following me afterward, I blew so many stimpacs keeping him alive in those forcefields at the army base. No one was gonna kill him on my watch!

I remember the fear in the fallout community when bethsadia took over the IP and the memes of 'it's just gonna be Morrowind with guns'

I spent years working on mods (Mutants Rising rules!), this game somehow impacted my life. I meet some incredible people in this very community (SNorth springs to mind. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2465319.Stephen_A_North )


Damn, this game, this community left a mark on my life. Far more than I would have ever imagined possible.


I'm still waiting for Mutants Rising to be released, get to to it guys.



Fun fact, the original plot for Mutants Rising had to radically change after it was stolen by a certain development house. The story was nearly identical to an official story. We never found the leak, but suspected a plant on the team. No I don't have any proof, those original design documents will be long gone. I'll just say that originally you started in a prison and escaped after it was attacked. We shifted the location to a town but kept an attack as a starting off the main plot.

What is Mutant Rising? And are you saying they based Van Buren of that?

Edit: i installed The junktown demo when i was like 8. And several years later when i was like 11 or 12 a friend in The uk i knew from a star wars galactic battlegrounds site burned f1 and 2 and mailed them to me. Ive been in total love with the series ever since, fallout 1 for Its aesthetic and General feel as well as Its accesibily and fallout 2 for Its difficulty and freedom.

My intro to Fallout came via seeing ads for Tactics in PC Gamer. My grandmother had bought me a subscription to the magazine for Christmas. Shortly after Tactics came out I broke my arm in a scooter wreck (you know those little Razor scooters?), and my grandmother bought me Tactics as a get well present.

So my first real experience with Fallout was playing tactics at 11 years old with one arm in a cast and loaded off my ass on pain killers. Around a year later I came across one of those dual game deals at Wal-Mart that contained both Fallout 1 and 2 so of course I spent my allowance on them. Fell in love with those games and have gone back and played them many times since.
 
A friend of mine introduced me to Fallout 3 a while back (before NV came out but not right after FO3's release). I did not like FO3 at all. I had no interest in having anything to do with the FO franchise for like a solid 10 years? About 2 years ago a video about the VB design docs was recommended to me, I watched It and I REALLY liked It. I liked It enough that I actually decided to play FO1. I made a terrible build and wasn't having fun so I restarted and played the game with a guide instead of blind and it became one of my favourite games. I played Fallout 2 next and I enjoyed that one too (although less so than FO1). I wasn't a big fan of shooters but I tried NV and I enjoyed It as well. Then I tried TTW (FO3 and FNV) and played through FO3, did not enjoy myself :(. Not planning on playing FO4 since my PC sucks but I'm trying to get some friends to play the old games so we can do a dnd campaign for VB or something!
 
I got fallout 1 as a gift with few other games as well. At first, I was excited as I was growing to like top down games. But I can't even remember how much I hated it just by looking at it. Starting in a cave with rats only added to my hatred.

As I didn't have anything else to play, I tried to understand the game. I started to like the atmosphere. I tried to find a human without getting killed by mole rats and scorpions. It turned out there were much more humans than I expected. But it also turns out they weren't as friendly as I expected. I used to love seeing wooden boxes and wonder how long they lay here.(less is more, I hate how so much 'details' are present in NV,3,etc) It was the game that introduced me to RPGs. It was a life changing experience--really. The ending was unlike anything I have seen before. The only other ending that came close(for me) was taking over Mojave in FO NV.

Fallout 2 is a mixed bag for me, but that is mostly becuase I was rushing for the ending and used guide almost to the end. It was when I realized it is not worth gaming if I am doing it for the sake of completing. My biggest dissapointment was scenery items have the same description they did in fo1.That was one of the things I love about fo1. But overall, fo2 was a great game.

Fo3, meh. I played it after NV

FO NV, I play it even these days, with mods of course. Thanks to Bethesda for gamebryo engine and assets from Fo3. And Obisidian for NV

FO 4, I will play to completion one of these days. I grew to like it, but FPS are not for me.

FO Tactics, I hope microsoft optimizes tactics. It is probably not favourite for many, not even me, but I like the story and have my reasons to like it.

(Sorry I tend to write too much about fallout)

Mutant Rising is mod that is in developement. They have released a demo long ago. I liked it. It would take about 1 hour, but I took my time to complete it.

I played the demo after playing fo1. It has something special. Though it is a demo and doesn't have much to offer, I like the town and characters.

Maybe I will try my hand at modding and remake it in NV in future, with few more additions(quests). Something like The Pitt DLC(fo3).

My friend's first Fallout was when I gave him a boxed copy for his birthday. Later on I get a distressed phone call from him, telling me that his dude is blue; says, "Dude! If I like pick up clothes & $%!^, will that change his appearance?".

My own first play of Fallout (as I have posted in here before) was when a different friend moved [back] to town, and needed [my] mailing address to have Interplay send him a games anthology disk (the one with RR & FO1). After he had completed all of the games, he gave me the original disks.

*Incidentally I had just completed Baldur's Gate, and moved on to Fallout—and immediately wondered if I had made a mistake doing so; it was turn based.

I was at a friends house back in 1999 or 2000 and he had Fallout 2 on his computer. We were 10 or 11 and he showcased the game for me. I remember him having the car and having Marcus in his party. I also remember Sulik from that time. However he had managed to save the game in an impossible combat encounter so he was instakilled as soon as he loaded that save and let the enemy have it's turn. I think we played from an earlier save instead and I remember that we got a level up and that he showed me how that worked.

Later when I was 13-14 I bought Arcanum, then Baldur's Gate 1, then 2 and eventually I found a cheap copy of Fallout 1 at the video game store. I played that a lot as a 14 year old and during the summer I spent a lot of time with it and actually learnt English by playing it.

Then I bought a box that contained Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics. So I probably didn't play 2 and Tactics until I was 15.

It was 2015, and I was watching a youtube video on Fo4. I picked it up, played it, thought the story was a pile of dogshit, but the gameplay was fun, found out there were other fallouts, and suddenly I have every fallout (except brotherhood of puke) from the original to 76 in my steam folder
 
First Fallout Game For Me Was FO3 back in 2008 it was Amazing Game And Got me into RPGS. However Fallout NV blow my Mind it is Clear The Best Game of The Fallout Series By Country Mile. Fallout 76 is okay Right Now but was Trash At Launch Gotten better Over Time. Fallout 1 & 2 Are Completely Trash Outdated Ugly Games Thanks Bethesda for Saving The Series.
