I woud say that it's fine, but IMO a more suitable Vault-Tec style experiment and one better suited to the real life nature of Scientology would be Vault-Tec being "sponsored" or "donated to" by the Hubologists, and as such Vault 7's experiment would be instituting the teaching of dianetics on a "fresh" population with the excuse of testing its validity in purported spiritual cleansing and psychological self-help. At first the more wacky "Xenu" alien stuff would be disregarded by the populace, but in generations of time it'd be the only pre-war texts in the Vault, and become a source of "genuine" knowledge to them.

Alternatively you could just have the Hubologists buying Vault-Tec off in some fashion, or major members of Vault-Tec being hubologists themselves (as scientologists in real life tend to worm their way into powerful institutions) and getting them to design a bunker for their leadership in San Francisco. That way their base in San Francisco could be a gaudy, vibrant scientology bunker.

    Something that looked like this

From what I recall of the Going Clear documentary, the Scientologists have nuclear war as part of their belief. I think they believe one already happened on an ancient earth.

It also does make me wonder about the potential depth of Hubology as a faction, since whilst doing a critical satire of Scientology and exploring their beliefs in the landscape of Fallout would be really cool, I imagine it would make them much more easily sueable.

Secretly scared they might turn out to be right about everything. Its safer if they are some mad special interest group.

Sometimes I wonder what a nation ruled by them would look like.

If the IRS ever decides to do the right thing and fuck them up the vagoo with taxes, David Miscavige will probably go off and form his own rogue nation Outer Heaven style so we can find out.

Just read the stories coming from ex scientologists.

From what I gather, it is a big vanity and power grabbing project. The 'elites', don't really buy into the bullshit and mostly are in it for personal gain like being able to feel L33t and having the lower levels kiss their ass (makes sense as they are arrogant Hollywood PoS). Cash flow is also a primary reason. Their legal war chest is the stuff of nightmares.

There are tons of stories about how LRH used SeaOrg as his own personal sea base and had adherents work essentially for slave wages. No dissent was tolerated and there were rumors of child abuse. I wouldn't be surprised if LRH or other top leadership too advantage of older females adherents too.

Under the rule of Miscaveage, things do not seem to have changed. He essentially acts like a king, with Scientology his own personal fiefdom. The fact these guys got tax exempt status and the way they achieved that is scary stuff. Just read about shit like Op Snow White and Freak Out. They mostly remind me of a super cult.

It is good most of you euro governments realised what Scientology really is.

I could live with the idea that the Huboglobists are a pre war cult that somehow managed to survive the nuclear war and endured in the almost two centuries after.

Perhaps a couple of modifications would have be needed here and there such as the ones other posters here have suggested.

BTW, would it make more sense if the Huboglobists' headquarters is their old Vault?

Do you have any changes to suggest, Dutch Ghost?

Also, yes, that’s how I headcannoned why the Hubologists had that underground bunker.

My headcanon was always that their SanFran bunker was a private vault, they were a rich prewar cult akin to the irl CoS, and after coming out they slowly spread in the wastes, but post war they never could grow too large as wastelanders were too busy surviving to take a cult seriously, but since their rreligion was a pay to pray model they did make money when they could manage to recruit members.

In areas where they had strongee influence I could also see them fighting turf wars against smaller cults and basically looting what was left.

As much as I dislike so many things aboout Fallout 4 and the Nuka World DLC, I actually think the hubologist encounter was overall well done, my headcanon is they sent large well equipped scouting party eastward, and all but a couple of the small group you encounter were locals recruited after most of the expediton died.

    Hello,
I had to think about this one for a while but nothing really wants to pop up.
Some of the suggestions that others here have posted sound look good additions such as how the Huboglobist Vault might look like from the inside.

I am not really sure about the idea of a community of Vault Dwellers being indoctrinated into the teachings of the Huboglobists. I think that the pre war cult bought a Vault or used their influence to get a Vault from Vault-Tec would work better.
