Is A New Game Even Necessary?

According to the average "gamer" they have 1,000,000 games in their backlog but are still not happy.

This thread asks question smilar in complexity and seriousness to "Do we have enough porn"?

IMHO we have access to porn far too easily. Some young impressionable minds can be warped and develop complexes after seeing a porno guy with a cock like a baseball bat fucking a deep fake version of his mamma.

Also people get desensitised. First they watch an old 1980's soft core movie. Then after some months have turned to looking at gang bang movies and dwarf porn.

Further on it's lady boys shitting on 7 year old, trainee shaolin monk's faces. With Gary Glitter providing the tunes.
Then within no time they watch the winner of the Kentucky Derby stuck right up Camilla Parker's bowels

I remember watching one of those hooker doc's HBO used to do back in the day.

One the girls they interviewed said she had a customer who, apparently, told her nothing can make him ejaculate anymore. So - he pulled out a prescription bottle full of sewing needles and pins and said he'd pay her a hundred dollars for each one she'd stick in his dick. The man was so desensitized I guess he decided to go full on Hellraiser, "only pain can give me pleasure". Apparently she did three of them before she had enough and was unable to continue.

So yeh - I'd say desensitization is a major problem lol.

Only 2-3 good video games get made every decade, they should stop working on all the other ones and focus all their effort and money on those.

Which btw is total bullshit and Dayglow just has boring taste in games.

All forms of fiction are just mining the universe for ideas. And once all the ideas have been mined God will return and kill us all. So yes, we need a ton of new games.

Well apparently that exploding Oculus VR headset is a thing, so no, not anymore. We’ve gone from video games as entertainment and ascended to video game death/suicide. We can’t go any further from here, God is dead and the house is on fire.

Sigmar protect us.

Honestly, as long as there is room for improvement there is a "need" for a new game. All of my favourite games still got flaws and unrealised ideas (due to budget/time/technology limitations). The only game so far that I played and didn't felt like that at all was Portal 2. For some reason I genuinely believe that it is a "perfect" game. It's not my favourite game of all time, but the only real "10/10" game I can point out so far.

So I'm always hoping that something new might come and do the job, all of that alongside inovations that still come (especially with indie games) kind of creating new "genres" with it's own set of problems and ideas to be worked on.

No I don't need new games. Contemplation is better than playing the new pozzed garbage.

I feel it is not just video games, it is creativity overall that has taken a hit. Movies are worse. Tv-shows are worse. Books are worse. Video games are worse.

Now this might of course just be me getting old, but even younger generations are complaining.

It's not that people are necessarily less creative so much as at no point in history have those industries relied on just a lazy rehashing of the same ideas over, and over, and over again more than they do now. I think there was this realization that "Hey, it turns out these people will just let them sell you the same product over and over again" and they just kind of ran with it from there.

My baseless schizo opinion is that the Marvel movie franchise was kinda the progenitor for this but don't ask me to elaborate on that because I can't.

No, I can’t either, but I know what you mean. The MCU created this cesspool of “le epic bantz + stupid action = profit” that now everybody uses, constantly. There is no variety, only the same stupid shit because genuinely good ideas don’t profit. Sure, some genuinely fucking awesome series have come along in terms of visual media since the launch of the MCU; Black Sails and Better Call Saul are a pair of fucking masterpiece television shows, in my eyes.

But why would you bother to create A+ media when the stupid shit sells just as well? It’s as much profit for far less effort.

This is what happens when quality takes a backseat to ideology. It might change in a short while because whole industries are becoming unprofitable and companies can't rely forever on ESG bux.

I mean ideology might be one ingredient but it has always existed in media without narrative suffering as much as it does now.
