Josh Sawyer plays New Vegas for charity

For a writer you have a bad sense of humor, but that's no surprise here, since it's the age of imformation, everyone can become a writer if they wish.

Yes, how very funny was the fact Obsidian has always struggled financially. Ha-ha.

Also, I'm not insecure about my writing. It's like saying "you're a bad carpenter."

:)

What's even more pathetic is wanting to laugh at people for having these conspiracy theories since at the time, Bethesda did screw Obsidian over. There would have been a lot of bad blood at the time, just carefully masked by tactful and diplomatic responses (especially since they almost folded over since they were denied royalties and all then).

Well, the bad blood would be with the developers who missed out on bonuses (or did they? - Obsidian might have lost money but not necessarily the people making the game) not the people who actually make the decisions a.k.a the corporate bag men. The corporate culture which Obsidian was created to escape has long since eaten the place unfortunately.

Avellone lost a lot of his edge, Josh Sawyer and Fenstermaker seem to have a better grasp on the tone and lore of the series than him now, despite only working in New Vegas. All his sucking up to Bethesda because he is freelancing for them doesn't help it one bit.

My prediction is Chris Avellone will head the next Bethesda Fallout, which is part of why he fell out with Obsidian.

Well, good thing I found this stream archive, now I know what to listen to tomorrow at work.

Like half this thread is going to get vatted probably.

Anyway New Vegas is fun enough that I wouldn't even need the prospect of charity to make me play it again. Good on Josh though.

Most likely.

EDIT: Those irrelevant posts have been vatted. Thank goodness for that.

Well the charity they're doing the stream for is a good cause and having Sawyer comment on New Vegas would definitely draw attention.

You like people having no idea what you mean, do you? I honestly never read any book that you written so I'm not going to comment on your writing..

I was making a statement about the "anyone can be a writer" bit.

Anyway, I prefer Josh's wiriting to Chris'. Honest Hearts is one of my favorite DLCs of all time.

What cause is it? Homelessness, starving kids? I'd watch the stream to find out what type but my computer is all jacked up so I have to use my crappy phone. Streams are not my phone's forte.

One funny story I noticed was the reason for the bug where ED-E would go hostile in Camp McCarren. Apparently this happened because of Radiant AI perceiving ED-E as an animal, so if any nearby humans had the "Hunter" AI, they would hunt and kill animals for food, thereby attacking ED-E if it had food in its inventory.
I remember that. He said "ED-E has meat inside him and those predators want that meat bad so you have to keep ED-E away from those hungry dudes". Rough quote but that's literally how it was described from where I read it.

For a hospital that handles expensive but necessary operations for children (whose families are unable to afford it) for free IIRC.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong since I only watched the stream once yesterday and I may be remembering it wrong.

EDIT: This is the hospital in question (http://www.choc.org/) and the organisation that organized the stream (I think, correct me if I'm wrong): http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1095

I like Sawyer, he made a point to adding a lot of unarmed weapons both to the main game and the DLCs, Unarmed got shafted on every game made by Bethesda.

To be fair, I feel like it kinda got the shaft in the original games, as well. Maybe less so. But yeah, I'm definitely a fan of the ballistic fist. Might be a little too good, actually...

Unarmed and melee are pretty bad in those games because you have to use a lot of AP just to get close enough to the enemies.

Religion does tie in well with a story of redemption and kinship.

That would have worked better on a profession like cooking where people do a little of it themselves.

While I do question a lot of his decision especially on the JSawyer mod, I liked a lot of what he did to the skill system (the merging and adding of new skills). Still, the Guns and Energy Weapon split never really made that much sense to me.

I don't like Energy and ballistics being merged. They are two different types of weapons, just because they have a trigger doesn't mean maintenance and inner workings are the same.
He did said it was to prevent someone from easily being the god of war but I think a Big Gun-Small Gun split makes more sense. However, Trap has been split between Explosive and Repair and Explosive is a merger of some Big Gun, some Trap, and some Throw.

Going back to Unarmed, I think that there are many ways to buff it without relying on just exploding fist. Maybe
  • Have it easily accessible like the grenade button
  • Add nonlethal takedown
  • Add grapples (let's ignore Gamebryo's limitations for a while)
  • Merge it with other skills like Athletics or Throw (just testing ideas)
