I'm curious, you know how during Lonesome Road Ulysses says different things to your character depending on who you allied with EG. NCR, Legion or House, what does he say to you if you're an Independent character with Yes Man? I can't seem to find any videos on youtube that show the Independent dialogues.

Last time I played, I allied with House and Ulysses talked about the ghost of Vegas in our final conversation ect. Does anybody know what he says if you're an Independent character?

He chastises you for seemingly no making up your mind, walking a road with no goal.

Okay, thanks. Damn, he just hates every option you choose doesn't he? Doesn't like it when you ally with NCR, doesn't like it when you ally with the Legion, doesn't like it when you ally with House and he doesn't like it if you didn't pick any of those factions to ally with. God I hate him...

That's the point. He's meant to be your rival and nemesis.
You can negotiate with him, though.

Yeah, it's not like "he hates you no matter what", because in context of the world, he doesn't have the OPTION to hate you, no matter your decision. In-universe, the courier only ever did one thing, ever, and there's only 1 series of events: what happened. Ulysses just hated what the courier represented, because of very good reasons. OUT of context, since it's a game, and it gives us choices, and we can replay it and try different choices, it can seem as if "he hates you if you do this, OR this, OR this", but that's just looking at it out of context. Indeed, Ulysses is the Courier's nemesis, but he's even more than that. He's a dark opposite of the Courier; what the Courier COULD have been, because they both walked such similar paths, yet found themselves so vastly far apart, in the end. He HAS to be antagonistic towards your character, no matter what, simply because that's what his character represents. But he's well-developed enough that you can still empathize with the guy.

That's why he's my favorite Fallout "villain" RIGHT behind Horrigan. =) Ulysses rocks!

Also, the reason you may be finding it so difficult to find videos or information regarding what Ulysses says if you "side Independent" is because of how the game determines this for the purpose of Ulysses. Because you CAN go very far down a particular path, but circle back before you make certain commitments and end the game with another allegiance, AND because the Independent route is the ONLY route that's physically impossible to NOT do, the game has a difficult time calculating that you've "made up your mind" to go Independent. By the time you reach The Divide, you might have already done a SINGLE NCR mission, which would give you NCR fame, and suddenly Ulysses will believe you've decided to side with them once and for all. To get the Independent dialog, you not only have to avoid ANY fame, but... get the RIGHT "fame" for it to trigger. It's super particular, so you don't see many players getting it.

From the research I've done on getting Ulysses to think you are 'Independent', I'm gonna keep my NCR fame at at-least neutral (since I always do a lot of their side-quests even though I go with Yes Man anyway), have my Legion rating at Villified (because I don't like them much anyway), and keep my Vegas fame at neutral (because I do the Strip quests like Beyond the beef and how little we know ect.). I'm not sure if having a high Brotherhood and Followers reputation increases my chances of Ulysses thinking I'm independent, but I'm gonna try it anyway. Besides, I like those two factions anyway.

high reputation of NCR-> NCR sided-> two headed bear
high reputation of Legion-> legion sided-> bull
high reputation of Strip-> Vegas sided-> USA
with neutral or bad reputation with those 3 faction-> independent

So if you talk ulysses with independent go to strip, wipe out gomorrah (or other casino) and wear faction armor.

As already mentioned, reputation with either faction is a key factor here. When I was going independent and talked to him, he started babbling about NCR, as at that point of the game I already had "idolized" reputation with them.

Would it be okay if I had an "accepted" reputation with the NCR? Because on the way to Vegas, I always do the peaceful resolution between the Khans and the NCR in Boulder City. Could I just wear faction armor to make it Neutral again?

Like already explained, it doesn't matter. The game goes by whatever is highest, and as a result it's INCREDIBLY difficult to get the Independent Ulysses dialog. Just because you think "I only have an accepted reputation" doesn't mean the game is going to recognize "Well, he's clearly not dedicating much of his effort to helping them out!" If you've got ZERO reputation with the Strip and the Legion, and the ONLY thing you've done for the NCR was help them take back NCRCF, Ulysses will talk to you like you're backing NCR for the battle at the Dam. Remember, you can ONLY gain Fame rep, you can never lose it, so getting Ulysses' dialog (or the final gift Duster) OTHER than NCR/Legion is very difficult, unless you plan it out.

The last time I played, I went out of my way to avoid the Strip for a couple different reasons, one of which was to not have my Infamy reset. Then when I felt suitably ready, I took on The Divide, talked Ulysses out of his horrible plan, only to set the nukes after both targets anyway. I looted the newly irradiated craters and then set off to the Strip to have my evil, evil vileness forgotten by both factions. But that was planned so far ahead, it killed a bunch of the immersion, and you'll face the same thing if you planning out getting a specific, "rare" Duster.

They should have tracked Main Quest progress for this, not reputation. It feels silly having my pro-House character being told he supports the friggin Legion because I never did any NCR sidequest but helped out big C's boys a little to maintain cover.

I don't recall that. The game checks for thresholds: if you're neutral across the board, you get the independent questline.

So if I wear NCR faction armor to reset my Accepted reputation back to Neutral momentarily, and keep a neutral Vegas and Legion reputation, I can get the Independent dialogue?

From what I read, in order to get the independent dialogue to trigger, you have to have an at least "Wild Child" rep with NCR, Legion, and the Strip.

Kinda annoying as I played an independent courier who was idolized by the NCR and liked by the Strip before-hand. So I had to kill some NCR soldiers at the Power Station and nearly all the securitrons on the Strip for the desired results.

I could download that mod that changes the requirements to quest status, but I play the 360 version, and don't have a computer that could run New Vegas. :(

Of course, I'm not sure if you're supposed to do it that way. All I know is that it worked for me.

Ah well, besides that minor gripe, I enjoyed Lonesome Road. Heck, I enjoyed all the DLC.

Man, I am a wandering beast. I plan to visit Ulysses before i even complete Ring a Ding Ding. I wonder what he will say.

Currently NCR liked, Legion accepted. Plan to go when Legion liked.

Then Ulysses says "you are dog of NCR" since Priority is NCR>Legion>Strip.

So if you want to talk Ulysses about independent, wear any faction armor to neutralize reputaion of NCR and Legion.

If you have good reputation with strip, that he will talk about being dog of corrupted old world trashes(casinos and house. yes man would be included though.
