makes me even wonder why they would bother doing it. I basically have very mixed feelings of the entire concept, especially with how boring Fallout 4 is.

There's not enough furry mods for NV... ;(

I want a damned anthro deathclaw mod! Is that so hard to ask for!?

Why bother modding Fallout 4? Its going to be forgotten in a year or two when Elder Scrolls 93: Mountain Dew Edition comes out.

Some people make mods for Fallout 4 because they have fun modding it. Even if they don't like Fallout 4 as much as the older games.
I know a great modder that made awesome mods for FO3, makes awesome mods for FNV and he has a lot of fun making mods for Fallout 4 even though he doesn't have much fun playing it. Because no matter how bad the game is, it still allows some things you can't do in the previous games. And so this modder is finally able to create the things he always wanted but couldn't do in the past.

I have a lot of fun making small mods here and there, I don't do it for Fallout 4 because I can make my small mods for FNV or TTW. But if there was a mod I wanted to make and I knew I would have fun making and could only be made in Fallout 4, I would probably make that mod.

You need to remember where you are, of course some will just want to complain about 4 around here. That said in full context as I understand it the creator wants to do an inspired by NV type thing, and not fully make NV again.

Disclaimer: I am not writing this angry or even mad, I am just trying to make my point clear. I am actually quite happy today and everything, but text do not convey emotions and can be interpreted as me just angrily foaming from my mouth while yelling profanities to the screen of my laptop :lmao:.
When I say "you" it doesn't mean anyone in particular either, it is used as an example "you". :V
    Disclaimer Over

I know, that's why I said "remaking the map of FNV on FO4".
But the thing is, Fallout 4 sucks, even I bash it from time to time about stuff it does bad or should do but it doesn't .
But one thing is bashing a really awful Fallout and/or RPG game that has almost nothing about Fallout or RPG in it and another is bashing a mod made by someone who is doing it because he has fun doing it.
The way i see it, it is an homage to Fallout New Vegas, that modder liked the game so much he is having fun trying to make the map in a different game. Many people make mods that add stuff to games from different games (HALO armor, Lightsabers, Phasers, etc) and while I personally would never play with mods like that it is a free modding community, who am I to say those mods are bad or worst than the ones I make for example? Some of them are really well done and much better than mine :postviper:.

It's the same as going to a store that has free samples and start saying that the store sucks because it has a free sample from a brand you don't like :lmao:.

i like the idea wherever it goes. tale of two wastelands does cool shit and while this would require a lot more work on the geometry i'd imagine i think proves you can access assets from other owned games without a known deeply litigious company trying to wreck you (yet.) one thing that fo3 and nv handles v poorly and like fallout 4s engine actually does--and flails around like it's the main feature of the game sometimes (maybe they're right idk)--is volumetric light (and shadows, and ai actually uses fov, broader use of geometry in general seemingly.) there's a lot of benefit to the fo4 engine it seems that could be useful for situations in modded content if it weren't attached to such a stiff world. like nighttime is big in all the games but this is the first time a non-glitchy flashlight seems possible. there was a good effort modded for nv but the engine really limited it working presentably.

This is at least an interesting little tech demo of sorts. Though if you're gonna remake New Vegas in some form, might as well remake it from scratch in an entirely new engine, rather than from Fallout 4, with it's hard-coded dialogue and perk system nonsense.

so which of us faggots is actually making the engine then? we really think this is the simpler solution?

Rather than making a new engine largely from scratch, it would be easier to make a Fallout game in Unity or UE4. I made a few levels of a stealth simulation game in Unity based on the X-13 infiltration tests in Old World Blues, complete with robot hall monitors (I used the Threshing Clawer from Wasteland 2 as their actor model) and proximity mines. Unity's physics engine is far better than the Havok that Gamebryo/Creation uses, and should it not be sufficient, you can make your own in Unity. Adding the type of character system from Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas on it would allow for a Fallout game (a mod to be legal) that plays and looks better than Fallout 4.

i think we're oversimplifying things. the "just use unity" idea would imply something like rust is just lacking a few things before replacing fallout, when you already have to pay people to be able to make a pre-alpha game that good. we're getting ahead of ourselves.

That's true, but a demo that features only a small region could still, for what it provides in its smaller scope, play and look better. Of course people will be wanting a full game from playing the demo, in which case the developers will probably need to be paid, which wouldn't be legal if they use the Fallout name.

With a bit of gymnastics, it would actually be possible to make a proper remake of New Vegas with Fallout 4, even with the perks and 4 choices dialogue. The biggest problem would be with the legal aspect, since it would probably require using assets from New Vegas (voiced dialogues, mostly). Bethesda may be cool with modders working on a Morrowind/Oblivion remake, since they don't want to upset that specific fanbase, but when it comes to Fallout, who knows. Fallout online has seen some serious trouble with Bethesda in the past because they wanted to use the original engine.

    But for Fallout 4 :
"Immersive Gameplay" by the modder Erezike showed that the perk system can be heavily edited (and made partially inusable) even before the release of a proper script extender. And the immersive start mod implemented back some of the classic Fallout traits. It's not impossible to imagine a mod that would simply make the perk tree invisible, and implement classic traits with dialogue boxes. The skills menu would be really hard to implement though, but I'm sure that a talented modder like Chesko could do it. Hell, look at Sexlab's most complex mods and you'll see that the sky is the limit once we get a script extender.

As for the dialogue wheel, things would be hard but again, not impossible. The solution would be a Mass Effect system, basically :
    1 - Answer A
    2 - Answer B
    3 - Leave
    4 - Ask about...
Press 4, the dialogue wheel presents a series of keywords related to the subjects you can talk about. Click on one of them, and then only you get three specific dialogue options, plus the usual "I should go". That makes 9 custom dialogue options, enough to cover most dialogues from New Vegas. It could actually have worked for Fallout 4 and would have been the perfect compromise with the traditional dialogue system and the streamlined, console one.

Why do people bitch about it ?
It looks fucking amazing. Even with those stock assets and lack of LOD.

If they can find a way to deal with those atrocious dialogue system and implement factions - i'd buy that.

Actually, Fallout: Cascadia team has managed to re-create Fallout 3-like dialogue menu, so don't see any problems.

That's seriously nice. There were rumours that the limitation to four dialogue options was more or less hardcoded into the game. Also, never heard of Fallout: Cascadia, looks interesting, I'm gonna keep it in mind. Maybe it will motivate me to actually play Fallout 4 again.

Update, they have also re-created the skills system! Hadn't checked their Facebook page news in a while. Gonna look up the pics and attach them now.

    Aaand done.
