Yeah. But then you would just have a sniper really who's probably also using a rather mediocre bolt action rifle instead of one dedicated to sniping and they are not operating like regular soldiers.

When it comes to actual combat efficiency a unit armed with at the very least semi-automatic rifles will probably beat any unit that's only armed with bolt action rifles. That's at least the point they made on Forgotten Weapons.

For the case someone is interested in the video, it's really good :

Semi autos are good. But i have doubts bolt action rifles will 100% go the way of the dinosaur. Same with Pump action rifles and shotguns. In the case of shotguns, lot of the semi auto parts have a bad habit of breaking down and needing constant maintenance. I always see it like the revolvers vs pistols argument for semi vs bolt action. And i think for heavier cartridges a lot of firearms experts/scientists test them first with bolt action systems for platform stability and recoil management. Itd be interesting if the U.S. military bought into using Lever action rifles instead of bolt. Thatd be an interesring alternate timeline

No of course not. Bolties will always remain relevant. But they will be a niche within the military I think. Like high quality sniper rifles of various calibers will see bolt action designs. But anything that's used for the role of a service rifle? Well, semiautomatic is the minimum. But it is a bit moot as a point anyway, it was just a neat/silly thought of bolt rifles vs. semiautomatic in terms of combat units engaging each other.

However you can already see the change within WW2 though. So historically it is relevant. Like with the use of the M1 there was already a clear shift in infantry combat. Where as the Germans with their bolt action rifles as the main weapon for most infantry units still revolved heavily around the use of machine guns in attack and defence. But even the Germans tried everything they could to put more automatic/semiautomatic weapons into the hands of their soldiers in the end.

Bolt actions have their place in hunting (because they're simple to maintain and rugged and you don't really need high RoF), and in precision shooting.
Outside of dedicated long range snipers and on the parade ground, bolt action rifles are just not useful in the military anymore.

Yeah, a revolver is great for self/home defense. No need to worry about mag springs wearing out, and you get to cock the hammer much more menacingly, even if it's not necessary. You can also get big-ass revolvers for hunting, and there is just something cool about having a Colt SAA. Sorry, tacticool fellas who practice their Center Axis Relock stance with their Bren Tens and whatnot, but while going all John Wick is cool, going Revolver Ocelot (Revolver Ocelot) is cooler.
You gotta ask yourself the question, do I wanna be cool like Dirty Harry while defending myself? Well, do ya, punk?

With how far chemical science has advanced, how do you fuck up poisoning someone? I mean even the Romans had this down and they were using shit you could clearly taste in your wine like snake venom extract and vegetable poisons, so with all the various colorless and odorless chemicals we have now how to you fuck that up and have everyone walk away fine.

Unless it was their intention all along for everybody to walk away with a mild stomach ache. "Don't even think about peace talks again unless you dare braving the taste of Pepto-Bismol!"

I mean they have been successful in battle when I say that. Obviously all of those guys were aged out or something if Ukraine is any indicator. Maybe it is bad leadership. Idk but I like watching them fail since they hate us.

That whole Stalin quote about Quality vs Quantity effect comes into play. at the end of the day though, Russia has the bigger military all Ukraine can hope to do is go the distance and disfigure not scar, disfigure them in such a way nobody cannot ignore what happened.

Though Russia's Army issues often ignored by the stonk crowd and fear merchants have come to the for front. for years there have been accounts about how bad their morale was with rampant drug abuses and forced homosexual prostitution for the smaller weaker conscripts. basically a prison environment. No wonder they have had such a shit showing, and there terrible logistics and insane idea they would be welcomed as heroes did them no favors. those 1st guys over the top were going into battle with like 2 days of food and water, 60 rounds of ammo and their fucking dress uniforms in their kits for the Victory parade.

And I will go further to say it is a part of the Russian (Ukrainians are Russian) mindset to be ready to stab someone over a bottle of vodka they need to survive instead of crying about it like an American would.
