*sigh* re-installing Failout 3...

cratchety ol joe

Mildly Dipped
sadly my games collection has rotated, and I'm left looking at FO3 so, if I re-install this for the 4 hours entertainment it offers, what mods to people recommend to make it bearable?

I dug about and the bits that weren't burnt in the great banishing (un-installation) have left me with the following:

◦ Alternate Start - Roleplayers.esp
◦ Centered 3P Cam.esp.old
◦ MaxLevel100.esp
◦ Slower Degradation (-80%).esp
◦ WeightlessPowerArmour.esp
◦ WeightlessPowerArmour_Neutral.esp

has there been anything else come up I should be aware of? any soopah mods that made this FPS game into an RPG I could enjoy?

Honestly don't bother installing it again cratchety ol joe.

While some mods fix game imbalances and offer a bit of variety on the otherwise bland and pointless world, there are no mods that can actually fix this and make it a more enjoyable game experience.

You mostly wander around, shooting things in order to gain the experience points necessary to boost skills that allow you to hack computers and open locks, but there is no roleplaying whatsoever.

Try an indie RPG if you are really in the mood for a real RPG and want something new.

Alternatively if you don't mind FPS gameplay, try out one of the STALKER games, give Metro 2033 perhaps a walkthrough, or play Borderlands and its DLCs.

there are a lot of fixes for gameplay ... sadly what I need are things that fix the story ...

  • Simple needs
  • Slower Levelling - slower.esp
  • WeightRebalance.esp
  • Auto aim fix
  • ModBetterPowerArmor60VATS.esp
  • DK_BulletTime.esp
  • Starke's Classic AP and Weight Restore.esp
  • Joefoxx fallout weapons
  • Arwen Realism tweaks (less is more, smarter AI, etc)
  • Classic Skill Points Overhaul.esp
  • Fast_but_dramatic_VATS_0.9.esp
  • DarkNights-Default.esp
  • Gore tweaks
  • Increased Holstered speed.esp
  • LaterSunset.esp
  • Project Beauty HD version.esm
  • ReducedSkillBobbleheadEffects-4.esp
  • SPECIALized_VATS_fastvats.esp
  • WeaponModKits.esp
  • Enhanced Weather

If I may add to the above post: almost all of those fixes that the above poster listed are implemented into FWE 5.0. U can install 100+ mods or have them in one FWE package. Plus its very tunable from in game menu.
Unfortunately its not like it will fix the story or dialogs. Ow well - methinks we will have to wait for a F3 restoration project....maybe in 10 years :D

One more thing : for those with better PC's, try this one for size if u think F3 textures are too low:

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12056

It's said to "replace Terrain, trees, interiors/ exteriors, vehicles and most furniture with high resolution (200-400%) textures".

You also really need a weather mod like Fellout or Enhanced Weather (as Santoka suggests) to make the graphics suck slightly less.

Maybe a landscape pack like Greenerworld or Desert Theme to make the wasteland less boring.

Yeppee. Having day off from school. And what do I do? Im reinstalling F3 for the third time today...

"Backups, what backups?"

I have so muuch to learn about these things.

I might be reinstalling Fallout 3 soon, but only to try making some mods of my own. Hopefully, something completely unrelated to the original game..

Is there a site where i can find all of the F3 mods released so far along with the descriptions of what each of them does?

I played through the game 1.5 times. The .5 was the first time. And the full 1 was finished relatively recently. It's an ok game. I don't remember what mods I used, except for the Wanders Edition one. That's pretty essential.

There were parts that I really liked. Some days I got into the poorly done action aspect of it. Other parts I had to close my eyes and hope I could move onto something else soon. Some quests were pretty fun. Others droned on and were godawful.

It was fun sometimes. Other times...no. Definitely not when you compare it to the originals, obviously.

But I don't get the "OMG! I'M REINSTALLING IT AND PLAYING IT FOR THE 42ND TIME! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAY!!!!!!" Everything is pretty much the same. If you want to explore more, have that Broken Steel shit and just visit every location until you've been to them all and the BOOM, you're done.

Restoration Projects only work on games that had a story and a certain amount of depth to start with

Yeah - but i was thinking about a restoration project with rewriting of the story and so on. Maybe Van Burren on F3 engine or something. U know it's nice to dream. Don't be such a dream crusher ;)

What your thinking is called a "Total Conversion"

He he , I'm in the same position as cratchety! Ran out of games and am looking at FO3 again. Last disappointment was Splinter Cell Conviction or should I say 'Sam Payne'. I'm ready now to retacle this old travesty and just finish the damn thing so I can say that at least all my money didn't go to waste!

I'll need to also give my endorsement to FWE. It does wonders for realism in the game. And believe it or not, it actually helps the story by being more brutal. Believe me, when a bum asks you for a purified water, you're gonna be a selfish bastard and ignore the karma boost, because you need that shit!

Gotta give FWE its props.

The world still doesn't make sense but it actually makes it feel like I'm trying to survive in a post apocalyptic area instead of playing as some legendary wanderer.

FWE is good as it fixes a lot of the gameplay issues and you dont have to load a ton of other mods.

If you really want to give it another go, install arefu expanded. Tehre are some new quests wich arent retarded.
