I don't know exactly how, but for some reason boulders and invisible walls have become non-solid due to either the Fallout New Vegas Stutter Remover or a recent .ini tweak. Thanks to this tweak I explored something I wouldn't have otherwise....beyond the valley.

I would have never known that the map was actually 3 or 4 times bigger than I originally thought it was. You could practically put 3 or 4 other towns out there without them looking out of place.

The invisible walls are back after a restart. Odd.

Yes there's a lot of terrain that they got when they were converting topographical data, but it wasn't meant to be playable to begin with. Could be used for modders I assume, but so far I haven't seen good quest mods coming out (well.. haven't tried many either, so maybe I should before giving judgment).

You could start with mine. I almost get the impression that nobody wants to play quest mods, if they don't feature any slutty clothes, phat loot and explosions. :>

I recommend you to jump the Searchlight Airport's fence and go for an hour long walk to Legate's Camp.

Thats what I was thinking! You could make one or more large quest lines featuring JUST that area.

I did, but you made only one quest mod (to my knowledge) :(

Yeah, I have lots of work in progress stuff, but nothing close to finish, because there always came up a problem which made me stop after a while. But the day will come where I will release a new quest mod. :>

There's already one called Beyond the Borders. I haven't tested it out yet, but could be promising if it doesn't break lore.

People seem to like it in the comments, but theres a bug where important NPCs will wander off and die in his part of the map
You could add a ton of towns out there

California locations (to the west): Calavada Springs, Sandy Valley, Needles, Dead Mountains Rec Park

Arizona Locations (to the southeast): Bullhead City, Fort Mohave

Nevada Locations (to the south): Laughlin (my hometown), Kidwell, Lake Mohave

What I hate about a lot of those mods is that they are so ugly, they don't feel at all in the same style as FNV and they are basically stockpiles of items for the player to loot.

The thing is, its not that some of these people can not mod, there are quite a few skill full people on the Nexus, but I find that their direction is way off.

Of course its very difficult to make something that feels really professional in a couple of weeks.

(and yes, I am already trying to help a couple of people with their Fallout projects)

I don't know how to jump over the searchlight airport fence (without mods), but I found a way to explore the vast areas beyond the borders, without any glitching or modding.

Unfortunately, I can only get to the spot during the final quest. Once you get to the east side of the dam, there is a spot where you can climb up a small slope and walk outside the normal game area. I have walked for many hours, and explored all of the area off the map; and it is a huge area! My conservative estimate is, that it is 8 times larger than the actual game map.
Imagine a square with 9 smaller squares in it, now imagine the center square is the game map... thats how huge it is.

Then when you get to the edge, there is a 70-80 foot drop into a shallow ocean (5 feet deep), that goes on forever!! Its pretty tough to survive the drop into the water, but it is possible; however, the water is irradited! So you will need plenty of rad-aways to swim for any extended period.

Why would the developers make so many square miles of unused, yet fully textured and rendered terrain?!?

I have always wanted to make a quest mod, but I don't know how to use the GECK, I tried just fooling around with it but I couldn't get anywhere, I can program on visual basic

The only Quest mods I have played are Dog City Denver, wich I didn't like at all, New Vegas Bounties I and II, they are fun to play, have some good stories, a good concept but they are more combat heavy than story heavy, Fortune Canyon, wich seems to be more loot collecting han anything and decissions with regrets, wich I didn't like and it broke lore harder than FO3.

Maybe make a NMA mod group for New Vegas with the people that know how to use the GECK?

Yeah, I can't even play the mods - console user unfortunately - but the number of them I've seen that just feature a huge room full of tables with every single gun and ammo is just unbelievable; the first thing to look out for is the Nuka-Cola fridge, having multiple of those is the l33t badge of recognician it seems.

I'd really like to see someone use some of the extra space in the East to make some Legion towns and quests. :?

Edit: Hell, I'd even pay for a DLC that just added some new Legion stuff out in the East if Obsidian made one. That's what they should have done instead of this GRA junk.

Not even a full DLC like the first four, just a few new locations and quests with a couple new items thrown in would have been nice. The Legion was greatly lacking in vanilla NV.

Wasn't there a quest mod for Denver or something? I never tried it but it might be worth checking out, assuming it's anything like Van Buren's iteration.

I tried it, didn't like it at all, it has way too many "you did my quest so now I kill you) a lot of fake difficulty by giving enemies "energy fields" even humans and teleportation, not to mention "cut scenes" wich means you are frozen in place while an npc does something that you could have stopped otherwise, and it stirps you of your weapons but doesn't seem to leave them in a easy to find place and it leaves you right next to the Cazador infested Building in the docks with no equipment, not to mention that the choice done at the end is just very non sensical.

(I'm currently working on the weekends on modding Lonesome Road but when I finish that I'd be really interested in collaborating to make use of some of the more untapped areas of the Mojave.)

It seems to me like they focused heavily on the story, in which they most likely did, and didn't bother to utilize the immensity of the area they created.

I would love for you guys to make more FNV stuff. Especially some Legion territory!
