Fallout 2 at 15

Well, I for once disagree, Fallout 1 (and even Fallout 2) is more RPG than Fallout New Vegas, specially in their mechanics and how each build actually matters more in the classic games than the Fallout New Vegas ones.

New Vegas might have good storytelling and nice branched quests and dialogues, but that is not enough to make a RPG.
The player has to do the aiming, lockpicking and hacking themselves... That is already limiting the character's input with the world and make it a player's input in the world (which RPGs should always avoid to be more Roleplaying Games).

But then again, IGN thinks that World of Warcraft (5th place) and Pokemon Yellow (4th place) are better RPGs than Planescape Torment (6th place), Fallout (38th place), Baldur's Gate I (35th place), The Witcher 3 (10th place) or Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines (42nd place)...
...And that Skyrim (25th place) is a better RPG than Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 1...

List looks like they had sixty-something RPGs, so they added whole bunch of adventure games to make it 100.

I went in to this list expecting it to annoy me.

Despite the order being horrifically wrong(Skyrim too far up, VTM Bloodlines and Fallout 1 too far down), this is actually a fairly solid list.

Chrono Trigger is number one? I like Chrono Trigger, it is one of my favorite SNES games, but to put it above more serious RPGs is rather ridiculous.

And I do question some of the other entries on this list such as Mass Effect 2. A lot of these games with stat building elements are not bad but I would not classify them as RPGs, but rather action-adventures or shooter hybrids.
I guess this list treats the concept and genre of RPGs as broadly as possible.

I definitely would have done some very different entries if I had been charge of it.

And a minor nitpick regarding the text that goes with the Fallout 2 entry ;)

"to the Brotherhood of Steel standing against terrors brought by the power-armored Enclave and brutish supermutants."

I think the writer has to much Fallout 3 in mind because the BOS in Fallout 2 (or 1) for that matter was not really interested in defending the remnants of the world against these two factions. They just did not want to be destroyed themselves by the Enclave and the Super Mutants.

Honestly, the list is a lot better if you imagine they weren't chosen in a particular order, and it's just 100 RPGs they thought were great, but not ranked.

So Neverwinter Nights 2 is better than PoE? But Jade Empire is better than both of them? Ridiculous!
