Vault-113 OOC

Gonzalez

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
From the vault computer records "Vault project objectives":

Vault-113 is a control vault meant for testing the advantages of the more usual, generational preservation of vault dwellers versus the advantages of cryostasis preservation. While there is inherent risk of damage to the cryogenic preserved subjects, and the possibility of a system failure which would end with their death, the subjects would be better suited and more willing to repopulate the outside than those who are born inside the vault, there are also the benefits on savings on systems that maintain waken breathing dwellers, like food, water and power requirements.

Vault-113 will also remain as a reservoir of "pure" subjects that were not affected by radiation or other pathogens expected to be in the outside air. The vault will remain closed until arrival of government forces and science teams for full review and evaluation of the project. The overseer will be responsible for the fulfillment of these orders to the letter.

Conversation between Vault 113 Overseer and Security Chief in October 2278:

Overseer: "We got a problem, a big one, our water purification system has failed last night, we don't have th necessary spare parts to repair it, and process is to complicated for a workaround system. I've considered to open the vault and let people out, to start over on the outside with the help of the cryo dwellers, problem is our resources allocated for that task have not been issued prior to the fall of the bombs..."

Security Chief: "That is not a minor slip, how was this vault supposed to remain closed indefinitely without the necessary resources. The lack of a Garden of Eden Creation Kit I can understand, we weren't meant to repopulate until government forces arrived."

Overseer: "It is true, however, accordingly to what records we have, the replacement water chips meant for this vault, and even others, were all sent to Vault 8. And while not supposed to be opened, contingency was made for cases where our government was unable to get to us, however, due to clerical error, our Garden of Eden Creation Kit was mistakenly shipped to Vault 013, rather than ours, 113. These issues could not be addressed before the bombs fell, and so we are trapped in this awful situation, without a replacement Water Chip, and no Garden of Eden Creation Kit, I'm afraid we are doomed to die down here. I could let people out, but they wouldn't make it out there, not wit hout the necessary resources... many would die..."

Security Chief: "Then I guess we are going to have to find ourselves another Water Chip, or a Garden... G.E.C.K., whichever we can find first."

Overseer: "And who do you suggest we send out there? God knows how dangerous it can be, none of us has the skills to survive... unless..."

Security Chief: "The cryos..."

Overseer: "They have much better chances of surviving out there than ourselves, they know the outside, they have actually been out there, even if it has changed after these many years, and they'll probably prefer being outside anyway... I'm making the call, we need a list of the most suitable subjects. Let's just hope they survive reanimation, no one has come out of cryostasis after so long."

Security Chief: "I have already taken the liberty, here are some of our most promising candidates. First we have a police officer, several years on the streets before being frozen, he probably knows the city layout well. We also have an ex military, veteran of operation Canadian Freedom and Alaska Shield. Of course we will need people with other, varied sets of skills as well, and more expendable assets too".

Please post you character sheets in the following format:

Name: Markus Herman Gunderson

Sex: Male
Age: 30
Complexion: Caucasian*
Height: 6 feet/1,83 meters*
Weight: 222 pounds/100 kilos*

Bio: Cadet at the United States Military Academy for one year, left by own choice without giving much explanation as for the reasons. Joined the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia where he has served for five years. Well regarded for his excellent conduct and subordination, however this might have the drawback of lacking personal ambition, hes peers describe him as "being happy with just walking his beat". Rarely he has ever had to use force in his job, preferring a much more diplomatic and didactic approach to situations rather than a confrontational one, which also brought him to good prise with his superiors.

*optional

The bio section probably is the more important one, here you get to descibe who your character really is.

The game will be played free form, kind like a collective novel, but with some guidelines on how things should proceed. You make choices, or vote on the, and the GM will pit you against the result of your choices. The main objective is to scourge the wastes in search of either a Water Chip, or a GECK, or both if possible. Hints about where to start the search will be given, and encounters will occur based on how and where you decide to go. More info will be added on the go as well, so stay tuned. Vault 113 is located in the DC area, it takes place approximately 1 year after the developments of Fallout 3.

VAULT 113 DATA PERSONNEL FILE

NAME: Ramses 'Stryfe' Deckard

Age: 36
Gender: Male
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 196 lbs.

BIO
Enlisted at the age of 18 in the United States Army, he served in a variety of units from Airborne, the Ranger Regiment and eventually Special Forces as a Weapons Sergeant. He participated in Operation Canadian Freedom putting down Canadian insurgents which would open his eyes to the darker side of his Government. He also served with distinction on the Alaskan front during operation Alaskan Shield.

Despite all his skill and numerous citations for valor and bravery, SSG Deckard never climbed the rank ladder in his 18 years. Main reason was while he was a skilled soldier, his tendency to buck the chain of command and independent thinking, a habit he picked up having spent so much time with special units has caused him to earn the disdain of many a rigid officer or senior NCO. He is beloved by his subordinates, looking after then like they were his.

The horrors of the Canadian Operation and the death of his wife prompted him to leave the service two years shy of full retirement.

He is cool headed and thrives where the sparks fly. However, he doesn't kiss ass and has a long history of insubordination.

The file of the other cyro suspension candidate for the Garden of Eden Kit and Water Chip retrieval. Effective and expendable.

Well, doesn't seem others will be joining anytime soon. The RP board is pretty much dead, has been for a while. Want to launch this with just the two of us?

I could swing by you guys with my character from the outside? Could make an interesting byplay by having a character from the outside mix-up with those coming out of cryo and are being sent out after they've been outside for a little. She's been designed so she can end up anywhere.

Sorry, would have posted sooner but just got back.

Sounds like a good idea Silk. Having a local address the cyro guys of the politics of the factions would help.

Done. We are launching tomorrow. Been busy these last two days otherwise we would had launched already. I will create the IC thread shortly.

Sweet.

By the way, where is Vault-133 physically? State? Near any towns? Just so I can work out my explanation for how Lyla ended up nearby :)

. . . Yes, yes he did. Sorry, should have seen that.

I'll keep reading, when you feel its a good time for me to jump in, let me know, Gonzalez.

We are heading towards Vault 106. Your character should be in the area between Vault 113 and Vault 106 to come across our search party. As we are already on the outside you can jump in whenever you want. Be careful how you approach the party though.

I like how this is going so far... Pretty soon we will be making our way to Vault 106. I wonder how that is going to turn out,

BTW all location exist in-game in Fallout 3 and can be visited. With the exception of Vault-113 itself, diving under the pond won't get you into it.

A Revised Bio for where Lyla would roughly be at by the time she had made her way from west coast to east coast. Figured it would be handy for when your characters first sight her as well as allow me to articulate how she has come along from the thread I'm currently writing on.

Basic Bio

Name: Lyla Black
Race: Human
Age: 24

Physical Description: 5'9", Lyla has a slight yet athletic build and a hint of Eurasian ancestry. Normally has her dark frizzy hair in a ponytail with a purple scrunchie, her dark brown eyes are set in a heart-shaped face that is marred by an inkvine scar that runs along the left of her jaw. On her right shoulder is a set of five stars set in a cross save for the centre star, smaller than the others a little to the bottom right of centre.

History: Lyla set out from Eureka, a mixed Australian/American/New Zealander settlement in Oregon about the age of 19. Over the past five years she has crossed the North American continent, exploring and taking notes while she seeks to learn more of the old Commonwealths and perhaps a bit more about the founders of Eureka along the way. Her travels have left her far more worldly than when she started, particularly when it comes to new people, but she still has a brightness that allows her to look at the Wasteland as just another day rather than the nightmare it can be.

Over the course of her journeys she's explored, fought, survived and learned a lot along the way, both from experience and people she's come across in her travels. While far from infallible, she's definitely a lot wiser than she was. Between that and a bit of luck, she's made it this far and perhaps, when she has the answers she's after, she'll be ready to head back west with more information and having ranged farther than any Trailblazer ever did.

Items

Clothing: A green shirt and a grey shirt she alternates between which is normally sheathed in worn leather armour that has had a rough disruptive grey/green pattern painted over it. A pair of dark brown tactical boots have become her favoured footwear, particularly during the colder months. A pair of mirrored shades help keep the sun out of her eyes and she is usually seen wearing a cowboy hat that she occasionally refers to as an Akubra.

Supplies: Usually sufficient to get her through the next few days, has a set of plastic containers she uses for storage. Also has three water bottles stashed away.

Weapons: Combat Knife, skinning knife, 2 9mm's (which she sometimes has ammunition for) and a Colt Rangemaster Hunting rifle with scope.

Other: Large backpack that can be separated into multiple segments with a matching set of mug, bowl, knife and fork that are secured with velcro in the bag to stop them rattling. Also has a geiger counter to avoid radiation hotspots that she found on a dead scavenger. A compass and maps she has picked up along the way help keep her walking in the right direction, often with scribbled crib notes from various pencils she has managed to salvage. She also has a book that she has been filling with notes of her journeys, points of interest and information on encounters with different groups in the wastes. She hopes to take the book back someday to Eureka where the knowledge will be of use so it is written with that in mind, rather than a journal.

Apart from a couple of other odds and ends like a lighter, she has also managed to pick up a wrist-mounted pip-boy. Its kept in her pack rather than worn as it would need someone with the right technical knowledge to repair it, partly why she has chosen to come to DC to begin with.

Money: Has enough caps to get by, tries not to hold onto more because they cause too much noise in large quantities.

Character Statistics

Level: 12
Perks: Intense Training (8), Lead Belly, Silent Running, Toughness.
S: 5
P: 8
E: 8
C: 5
I: 7
A: 7
L: 8

Standout Aspects

- While she wasn't picked to be a Trailblazer, Lyla's survival skills are more than enough to keep her going.
- Ridiculously fit, what she can't fight she can usually outrun in speed or distance.
- Has a healthy respect for danger.
- Tends to heal quickly and hardly gets sick. Doesn't tend to notice the hot and cold very much either unless the weather is extreme.
- Has a distinct accent from the rest of the American West Coast (mix of Australian, New Zealand and American) that also lends itself to curious expressions that have perpetuated in Eureka.
- Isn't bad with an acoustic guitar when she gets her hands on one though they inevitably never last long on her journeys. Also knows her way around a piano. Other musical instruments she can normally work out some simple tunes given time.
- Her voice sits at a high alto, but she can push up into the soprano range or down to tenor, fun for singing and imitating people's voices to their irritation at times.

Race: Asian

Height: 5'5

Weight: 150LB

Bio: Eric Chang parents were caravan guards and made a decent living doing so. They made a moderate living until one day, his parents never came home. Eric wasn't the smartest tool in the shed but he knew the money saved up wouldn't last forever. With the skills given to him by his parents, Chang joined up with the nearest merc outfit and things took off from there. Throughout his time abroad fighting, he got pretty decent at close quarters combat. But the thing he excelled at, was sneaking around and killing people quietly.

All I need is commitment, try to post once a day or at least once every two days.

Post the character profile. And yeah, the Kilrick Salvagae days was a long, long time ago. Still nice to have a consistent flow in.

Silk, if you are going to color your dialogue try to do it in a light tone that contrasts with the dark background the forum has in web browsers, otherwise it is difficult to read.

Yeah, was hoping the purple would work better. Going to re-edit all the colours on each post.

By the way, she's already jogged off to grab her pack, she's not there to hear your answer. :P
