For me, it's Diablo III, hands down, no contest. I don't know what it is about the game, but I could literally play it 24/7 and probably never get bored of it. And I do, which is why I had to uninstall it.

    What about you?

Dwarf Fortress. It just seems like there is always something that has to be done, and while I'm doing that I'll notice 10 other things I need to do as well, and then something totally new pops up.

Fallout New Vegas, maybe. I played it for like 51 times or so.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl/Call of Pripyat too. Played SOC for like 43 times. CoP for 80 times.

There's also Sniper Elite - Nazi zombie Army 2. Quite fun.

And then there's Fallout 2, played it for 72 times. Fallout 1 too, but I didn't play it much due to it being small, I got bored of it easily.

And, finally: Papers, Please. Don't ask me why. Seriously, I play that game once, then I am addicted to it.

World of Warcraft - since i was a big fan of warcraft when the early images of the game showed up, and they made my mouth water... When i got my hands on it, as a susceptible 17 year old, it was the end of my free time. Also in part Diablo II, but then i was at ven more tender age . Needless to say, i don't play blizzard games anymore (wouldn't even if they were great), since it's a dangerous "game" (pun intended).

Now healthy addiction were Fallout 1,2, VM:Bloodlines, Baldurs gate, Torment, since they don't make you go in loops - you reach the goal and that's that, then maybe play it a couple of years after that. I didin't play Fallout 1,2 all that much, maybe 3, 4 times, but i can remember every part of them as if i played them yesterday - they were that good.

How do you remember exactly how many times you played Fallout 2?

HAHA! Fair enough. My friends from high school would agree with this.

Update: I know a guy that would say Left 4 Dead 2. He's got 2330 hours on it so far.

It's because I play every few months the game. I remember which month. I started doing this after 2012 though. 2012 was a year which I played nothing but Fallout in it.. (All, except 3. I only played 3 twice)

I was most addicted to world of warcraft, and then skyrim. Before that it was a lot of maplestory, habbo hotel, runescape etc. But that was in my childhood, before I became the discerning gamer I am today.

Especially skyrim has me coming back to it. The fact that it was singleplayer, moddable, with a breadth of content with a good art direction meant I might not have been playing it for all that long but it did drag me back to it numerous times.

Also, officially I have the most hours in New Vegas. 456 or something. But I think I exceed that with skyrim, but nothing's keeping track.

It changes over time. Any arcade game for 16 bit SEGA was pretty addictive for me a few decades back, after that RPG genre took the place for some time, and now I'm sucker for 4X strategy games with huge complexity. You know that feel, when you're building your empire carefully turn by turn and suddenly all hell breaks loose with neighboring kingdoms declaring war on you? But their armies are humiliated one by one thanks to your strategically placed fortresses full of well trained defenders; before you start counterattack, conquering their cities. Ahh! There's nothing better for me.

Civilization IV is probably my most addictive game, I'm trying to remove it from my HDD every year with no luck.

I play this game in waves, and I play it obsessively, like a hard-coded routine. I sometimes try to tear loose, and try new ways of playing it, but nah, I fall back to "Pangaea" map, as many nations as possible, and a furious attitude towards any kind of loss (right to the map editor grrr!) the latter I want to change, because hey... there is excitement in loss, but I really struggle with controlling that.

If it wasn't for the impossible exponential growth of AI power in Civ 3, I would definitely play that instead of 4. I love customizing my own maps and units, for example transforming the "mechanized infantry" into an actual IFV-unit, and removing the upgrade from the Infantry unit, making them loadable onto the IFV, stuff like that. But alas, once you allow AI to survive for too long in Civ 3, they'll eventually become mathematically impossible to beat.

Oblivion and I think also Fallout 3 show the hours played for each save game, within the game, did they remove this feature for Skyrim??

For example, the only reason I know I played Oblivion for 250 hours is that it said so in the game.

I remember GTA4 had such a counter, with a comment also, describing how much of an "addict" you were. I remember by the time I even checked it, it claimed I was a hopeless game-addict, but to be fair, I had probably plaid it some 6-7 hours continously by then.

    I miss that game :'(

GTA Games (PC releases), Day Z, Minecraft, Portal 1/2, Doom, Civilization 1-5, Farcry 2, Ultima 6 are just some of the addictive games I have played.

Sadly I don't have the time stats for my more recent addictions as I started switching steam to offline mode so it wouldn't track the amount of hours played and hide some of my shame.

ahaha Doom, yes, I've re-played that game so many times. To me it never got better than Doom for the FPS genre. I love me some FarCry and AvP2 and a few others, but Doom 1/2 is still more of a rush.

I'm kinda surprised you said FarCry 2 as I was excessively dissapointed in that game compared to its epic and amazing predecessor. Is it maybe addictive for you because the drive to get 100% completion, with the diamonds and all that?

btw love the avatar, Archer is the best.

I've had too many instances of restart-itis and bloated savegames that needed to make way for new ones for that to be of any help. If my current playtroughs are any indication I've played about a thousand hours in total.

Probably Diablo II for me with hundreds over hundreds of runs, Diablo III is not as addicting for me, maybe RoS will change it. Also HOMM III, maybe not addicting in the sense of playing it non-stop for days, but I can always come back to this game and enjoy it, anytime.

Doom and Doom 2, i replay them almost once a year, usually during christmas vacations. Gunning things down in doom just feels so satisfying i could keep on it for hours.

Theme hospital, its the perfect combination of casual and challenging gameplay with a cheerful style.

Plants vs zombies, played it twice and both times in one sitting, it starts easy but builds up challenge in perfect curve.

Civilization games are also really addictive, once i start i keep playing until ive beaten them atleast in second hardest AI

Wipeout HD, even when ive played this game for hunders of hours i keep getting better at it, or at least thats how it feels...

Team fortress 2. Just clocked 800 hours in that game. Its the perfect class based multiplayer shooter, though lately ive finally started to get burned out with it.
