I know what type of gamers No Mutants Allowed is full of, but that's not going to stop me from asking my question.

You know what I'm talking about. Things like GTA, Infamous, Uncharted, Halo, Assassin's Creed. What do you enjoy particularly? What are there good bits, their flaws? How dumbed down do you feel they are, how hard are some of them? How often do you play these kind of games?

Most gaming threads I've ever seen here are all about obscure indie RPGs I have never heard of or stuff from before my time. I want to bring this up a bit, simply because I'm a bit of a casual gamer myself and wanted to see how many people are similar.

EDIT: Cut the word "casual" from post title

I enjoy quite a few casual games too. Gaming doesn't always have to be challenging, sometimes you just need something to relax/turn your brain off. That said, I like the Assassin's Creed series, GTA V, Team Fortress 2 etc.

Games like these do have their place and I'm sure most people here agree with me. The only problem is that Fallout, a series that was NOT intended to be a casual game, became exactly that. Imagine if they turned the Elder Scrolls series into a hardcore, isometric turn-based RPG. Most bethfans would probably abandon the series right away...

I used to play a lot of Starcraft: Brood War, Starcraft Wings of Liberty (ran out of money before the expansions), Diablo I and II. Not big on shooters. Can't play 'em. Not too interested either.

I used to dig Titanfall. A bit. The closest I get now is SOMA.

You really need to stop being so terrified of NMA lol. Plenty of people here are capable of enjoying casual games or have a normal discussion with people who like Fallout 4. You're not going to be crucified (at least not unless you act like a douche).:wiggle:

Anyway, my casual game list is pretty big. Team Fortress 2, Diablo 1 and 2, crappton of Source Engine shooters etc. etc.

The more older I get, the less time I have so there's no shame in having fun in a quick round of TF2 or CS:GO.

Most new games bore me so I pretty much exclusively play sports game now( NHL/Madden and a bit of fifa, used to play ncaa football too when they made that). I'm not that big on shooters besides CS:GO(and source back in the day).

I guess I probably play like 1 game of league a week, maybe less tho i used to play it more but i got bored when i got diamond like 3 years ago and realized the games pretty much a time waster and nothing more. I played dota 2 aswell for a while but that games too boring aswell, I really don't understand the whole moba craze lol.

These days I'm really enjoying Crypt of the Necrodancer, Desktop Dungeons, and Card Hunter. There's not a lot in AAA of late that really speaks to me (I get bored quickly with the manshoots, and I can only play so many AssCreed style colectathons), but I am very much looking forward to the next Mass Effect, XCOM, and Dishonored.

Ah, I know this. It's just a know your audience kind of thing. If I start a thread and the majority aren't interested in discussing it, it just kinda takes up valuable space by being there. I like the responses so far, though.

The term is loose. Along with every other term used in the gaming industry. What determines what is AAA, indie, "action-adventure", immersive, realistic, focused, etc. isn't ever really clear. So I just went by the gut feeling. GTA is somewhat casual - maybe not in difficulty, but definitely in design. Assassin's Creed walks the line, I guess. This is going off the comparison that Fallout 4 is considered casual.

I actually have a thing for several PopCap titles. Peggle, Zuma and Bejeweled are all pretty great and addictive for what they are.

Competitive shooter, so definitely not. The learning curve is tough.

Actually the definition of AAA and indie are pretty clear.

Fallout 4 is not considered casual in here, it's considered a bad game that just chases on trends. The game is even made to encourage obssesive playing of it with it's grinding and endless looting, so clasifying it as "casual" is just non sensical.

I do hate the term "Hardcore gamer" because... seriously, the last thing you would apply the term "Hardcore" to is a gamer, unless they are winning tournaments.

A casual game to me is just a game designed for sporadic play, not too involved and even designed to not be played often, which is the case of phone games (altho those are also designed to make people spend money if they want to waste their whole day playing the game).

I just read the title as with a / or with air quotes around "casual". That is to say, that the most elite of games elitists would scoff at as "for casuals." Like we can all recommend fairly old school CRPGs, deep strategy games, Berlin definititon roguelikes, and the like but I read the question as "what games that aren't that sort of thing do you like."

I mean, I really like modern Bioware games and I know there are folks here who scoff at them.

Thank you - I'll use that as my definition for casual games from now on.

I didn't mean for any of my labelling to be offensive. I just threw around the common terms used for such a thing. I'm pretty sure you get what I meant to say - mainstream, globally-popular, generally-publicised games that appeals to large, expansive crowds rather than focused, niche ones. And definitely not indie games.

Damn, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is casual? Time to consider myself a casual gamer, then. Wow.

But seriously, I guess it counts as mainstream. It's one of my favourite games, though, so I'll always be biased towards it. If we're talking mainstream stuff, then I enjoy GTA, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Battlefield too, I suppose.

I think my use of "casual" was a bit of a misnomer there, then. Sorry.

Mainstream games I enjoy: Pokeymans, basically anything Nintendo on the 3DS that isn't one of their weird co-op titles, I liked Deus Ex HR but I haven't played the originals, I enjoyed my time playing the Mass Effect games but I don't hold them on the same pedestal as most gamers do, hell I don't even consider them rpgs from the second game onwards.
