I will tell the story of my Courier later but I want to hear your backstories.
Mine is a courier that in the past visited New Reno and did work for the community in the Divide.
Mine is a courier that visited Vault City in the past and did work for the community in the NCR.
My courier is a not-so-tribal female with a distrust of advanced Tech, like energy weapons and robots (strangely is okay with ED-E). she likes guns, did a security stint, ended up killing her mother and girlfriend, then ended up as a courier getting shot in the head.
Born into the Brotherhood of Steel, quit after the war with the NCR started, integrated into NCR and started working as a courier. Very capable with energy weapons but prefers to disassociate himself from his past so uses revolvers instead. This is mainly so I have something to do as I pass level 35 or so and don't know what to do with all my excess skill points(I'm going back to using energy weapons!)
I have like 20 of them, one of my most recent Couriers is Black Dynamite (haven't updated i nforever, oops).
Please, do update him, he was a blast to watch. (No pun intended).
I've also had many couriers but they followed the similar pattern: a mercenary from California who would side with the devil to get moar monies, but will help people when they need it. They were always skilled with guns and speech and, recently, also sneaking. Also, my couriers harbored a grudge against slavers, junkies and other trash and as much as they enjoyed blowing them to pieces, if a conflict could be resolved by diplomacy, they would go for it. Oh, and they all prefered small settlements around the Mojave rather than Vegas.
My favorite has to be my Frumentarius. He was originally a member of a small tribe that was absorbed into the Legion when he was about two years old. He was trained as a Legionary, and was inducted into the Frumentarii due to his talent as an infiltrator and a guerilla. He was deployed as a courier (same as Ulysses), and given deep cover missions. He was supposed to mainly keep tabs on the NCR, do some sabotage here and there, until he got orders to keep on the lookout for a chip with the number '38' on it, as Caesar deemed this to be of the utmost importance. It just so happens that a certain chip fell into the hands of my courier, and you know the story from there.
His playstyle whas that of an infiltrator. He could sneak well and had a high Lockpick skill, but he was technically inept. He was a good pugilist and a good marksman, and was a real smooth talker. He favored independent settlements, but only because he believed in the tactic of 'divide et impera', fostering discontent and breaking the Mojave up into small patches of land, ripe for the reaping.
My current courier's story is formed as much as possible by the game story, rather than before it. But basicly he's an evil bastard:
Before ending up in Goodsprings he was a selfish, authority-hating ordinary guy working as a courier. He loves and respects power above all and will always work for who he see's as physically dominant. This usually ends up being the Legion as he is disgusted by NCR's rule-loving bureaucracy. Even though the people of Goodsprings saved him he doesn't hesitate to ally with the Powder Gangers as they seem stronger, and he perceives GS to be run by women who he particularly hates. He loves drugs and alcohol and is permanently addicted to something, making him all the more ornery. He has an odd respect for animals who he will only attack in defence or if they stand in his way. He despises mutants and ghouls but this doesn't necessarily mean he'll slaughter them on-sight. For example - he didn't kill Jason Brights ghouls on-site as he was suprised by Chris not being a ghoul, and then intrigued to see if he could use Bright and his flock to his own ends. Later deciding they weren't powerful enough, he set their rockets to crash. He works for the BoS, respecting their power, but only to gain them as an ally against NCR.
So yeah, an all-round nasty bastard! My alter-ego!
He's all round skilled in most everything, because that's how all Gamebryo hero's turn out! My FO2 version of this character (FO2 actually limiting your character by skills - aka a 'Role-playing game' ) is skilled in Big guns (big and powerful-looking) lockpick (his way of stealing to get ahead - i don't use pickpocketing it's too easy) and outdoorsman (too survive alone).
Had an energy weapons young little punk type character. He'd spend all his caps on hookers, money and drugs. Of course then he got shot in the head and then things went a little different.
Got this idea for a ncr hating legion sniper, and I still want to make a scientist character and I had a pacifist for a little bit untill he bored me out of my mind.
My curier came from california to deliver a package and then got shot in the head and ended up in Goodsprings.
I'll guess I don't like LARPing in games.
Here are the backstories of 5 of my Couriers.
I tend to just make as unintrusive and kind of silly backstories as possible that also serve the function of justifying skills and behaviour:
1. Caleb: A con artist and recovering alcoholic that liked Bar Brawls. So he has Speech, Unarmed and Barter tagged, later he picked up guns but only used pistols. Supported an independent New Vegas.
2. C.D. A girl that just sleeps around life conning people or killing them in their sleep. She is convinced she can attain a high rank in the Legion by becoming the wife of one of the leaders. She kills Caesar because she thinks he is gay so she couldn't seduce him. You know the "Psycho Asshole run" It was fun. Melee, Explosives and Speech tagged. Black Widow and Cherzche La Femme obtained as soon as possible.
3. Tanya (I think, can't remember) an NCR medic. She was very normal, mostly did good things and supported the NCR, obviously. Medicine, Energy Weapons and Science tagged. Later picked up Speech.
4. Angry Bird, a White Legs tribal that got too high on Daturana one day and ended up in Vegas so he had to take a Courier job to get by. He believes House is a magic Ivory god so he supports him. He takes lots of drugs, Melee, Guns and survival Tagged. Never did Lonesome Road with him because the file got corrupt but I supose Ulysses just mistook him for another Courier because he didn't write his name correctly.
5. Bruno the smelly mutant. I used a Play as a Super Mutant mod and I picked the Body Odor trait that caused everyone to vomit, said mod also defaulted my rep to hated with the NCR and Legion so I had to go for an Independent run. Explosives, Melee and Energy Weapons. A brute Force character.
I may resume updating Black Dynamite next month, I went and got a backlog to update more comfortably, but then RL shit happened and I got first too busy and then kind of depressed, and then just lazy to continue but I am in a better peace of mind now, so I may resume it. But don't quote me on that, last time I posted I promised a staruday update on like january 2012 or something.
Karl Emil is an immigrant from Sweden, how he got here he does not know but he sure as hell aren't from here, not from the beginning at least. He is a tall, blond, white nordic whith a rough beard and fitting moustache, often seen with somewhat bad hair, he somewhats resemlbe a blond nordic Stalin, but with a manly beard.
He have wandered a lot, he came from the Mojave from the west and took work as a courier. He have seen much in his life.
He's intelligent and strong, he can't of course compete with a deathclaw in strenght but he is slightly above average for adult men. He has a high perception and is a fast learner and a clever man. He's also a good shot, skilled in technical stuff and an hardcore wasteland survivalist.
He is somewhat of an idealist, he wants to improve loife for the average wastelander as well for human civilisation as a whole, he is disgusted by people who pray on weaker individuals for their own sake but is not a stranger to sometimes make the hard decisions when it's needed. To sacrifice the few innocent for the greater good of the collective is something he has been forced to do on several occasions.
Karl fights for a civilized world were humans can live in peace and prosper, to acchieve this goal He has declared war against raiders, evil men and slavers that kill other humans for no reason and whos actions only prolong this hell on earth. But he also fights a war of eradication against mutated beast and animals, ghouls, super mutants, death claws, giant insects etc.in his eyesthey hav no right to exist and must be eradicated. Altough this is his goal he is not a stranger to make friendly relations with super mutants and ghouls who are not hostile to the idea of a human world, seeing as they can't breed and are thus doomed to extinction anyway.
He has neither positive nor negative to "democracy". He is by no means a supporter of Ceasars legion which he sees as nothing more than a large group of slavers and raiders. But despite his dislike for the legion he is not either a strong supporter of the NCR. Karl is sceptical to the republics idea of "returning" to the ways and values of the old world seeing as it is responsilbe for the apocalypse in the first place. But he still sees their values as bringers of peace and stability.
In his early life he supported the NCR but has later been supporting the idea of an independent Mojave nation and are now secretly planing to take out them as well as the legion when the war will finally escalate.
Thoughts and ideas about the factions in the Mojave:
NCR: California are developing into a power-hungry imperial buerocracy, despite the good intentions of some it will ltimately lead to doom once again.
Legion: Bunch of assholes raping and looting the world with inefficient weapons, must be destroyed.
BoS: Could be be savior the world needs, have altough developed into some form of semi-religious sect worshipping technology and are actually holding the return of civilization back. Need to be fixed or put to sleep.
House: Can do some real good to the world, a man that knows how to rule, that can rule and are willing to do so. Are a bit to indifferent to the common folk though.
Followers of the Apocalypse: Good people following a noble quest, but have become a bit to much of anarchistic hippies.
Altough he supports House, he will not let him rule forever, beacuse karl's true loyalty stand to the common folks of the land.
My newest Courier, in her words:
I was born a tribal, but you know real meaning of that word? It means a part of a community, a big family. That was my tribe, we were a family. One day my mother told me I had to flee, so I did. I had no other skills that stealth, cooking/survival, and melee, so I wandered, became a courier, and now I need to find some idiot who shot me, and hope i do not run into too many ghosts of the old world (robots)
How did she say that?
IF you are talking about my courier, she has about four intelligence, and can talk like a normal person.
She started life out as a tribal relativly far to the east. They tried to remain as peaceful as possible, but were not afraid of defending themselves. When she was about 8 years old, Legion came through, either captured, raped, or killed everyone in the tribe. Her parents, along with her and a handful of other members made an attempt to escape when things got bad, but on the way out her Father took a spear to the back of the head, and as her mother laid over his body crying, she was decapitated buy a Legionaire machete. The rest of her group picked her up and carried her as far away as they could get. The ones that remained tried starting a new tribe a few years later when Berklee was about 14, but she left and became a nomad. Wondering around, doing whatever she could to survive. After contemplating her existance for a while she became a courier. Working for whatever company needed it, and payed well. She traveled to places shed never even heard of before. Utah, Vault City, Arizona, etc. Even, the Divide. And that one package caused more than she ever knew (for now anyways). She made one last delivery for the Mojave Express, and that when she got shot in the head. Due to her Tribal upbringing she also doesnt like Energy weapons or anything like that.

Mine is Cayenne, Legion survivalist
She was born Elisa Guerra in New Mexico before things were settled by the Legion. She was a tough kid who could hold her own against the boys, and quickly earned the nickname Cayenne due to her fiery temperament. Her mother died during childbirth, her father was a Desert Ranger who had been expelled from the organization and he taught her how to hunt, shoot, and live off the land in the Bandelier Wilderness. They were forced to eke out a subsistence lifestyle, foraging while fending off the raider tribes that were swarming the region.
Then the Legion came and forged civilization out of the chaos.
Being beneath the Legion's notice, Cayenne struck out on her own when she was old enough after scraping together enough caps working as a hunting guide. She headed west, traveling thru Circle Junction and onto New Reno where she continued holding her own against the boys in both fights and in the bedroom, and even in a few Golden Globes productions. Eventually she made her way to California, hitting up Vault City and working Brahmin drives on Big Circle, before finding her niche as a courier.
From there her newfound occupation took her as far as Fort Aradesh and Utah, though much of her travels centered around southern California where her regular deliveries to settlers there gave rise to a survivalist community.
Ultimately Cayenne would become the woman to decide the outcome of the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, shaping the fate of the Mojave for years to come. The inherent corruption and obsessive bureaucracy of NCR had always frustrated her, as well as their bumbling mismanagement of the vast array of resources at their disposal. It also didn’t take long for her to become irritated with House’s inability to see beyond the walls of New Vegas. Lastly as far as Cayenne was concerned, Benny’s plan for an independent New Vegas was too haphazard—the situation in Freeside being ample proof of that.
Cayenne remembered what it was like growing up in New Mexico before Caesar, remembered the constant struggles she and her father undertook daily to survive. She learned that sacrifice is necessary for the greater good. Having witnessed firsthand the Legion carve civilization from the unfettered chaos Cayenne estimated that, right or wrong, the Legion were the ones with the best chance of surviving and thriving in the wasteland.
As Cayenne fastened the Mark of Caesar around her neck, she recalled one particular survival lesson her late father drilled in her since childhood: when confronted with a hostile environment you don’t become its adversary—you become a part of it.

Mine got amnesia from the shots to the face
Sue me, I just got it in my head that amnesia was the backstory, Idunno why - I'm not the only one here! >:I
