My first post, feels exciting up to a point.
    *takes a deep breath*

That's my story as a fallout fan...

My first Fallout, was Fallout 3. And I loved it. I thought it was an amazing game, which admittedly was marketed as a horror game to me. Needless to say I was young. A lot of Fallout 3 flaws eluded me for many years. I don't want to cover all the negatives of Fallout 3, of which there are many and of which you are all aware about. But even after all the horrible mistakes Bethesda made, I still thank them for introducing me to Fallout. I also openly admit, that the concepts of what they want to do are pretty good, to me. Execution not so much.

Admittedly, I still have a bit of a "Bethesda fan boy" in me. When I first saw this forum it filled me with hatred for all of you (not the best introduction, but hear me out). It is easy to stumble here and just see an entitled community wanting it their way or no other way at all. That said, you all quickly changed my mind. I love fallout universe and the lore (what actually attracts me most to the series), and overcoming my strong emotions I actually saw one of most dedicated communities to Fallout. So I want to apologize, for the initial impression I had of you.

I want force you to change your views, but me personally I still have a deep connection with Fallout 3, which I enjoyed more that Fallout New Vegas. I know, blasphemy. It brought me back into gaming at the time and set up an incredible world. I do appreciate the world design of Bethesda. And for that I will forever be thankful. We, what some may call "Bethesda fans", may have our reasons for liking their games, you know?

That said, while Fallout 3 could have been an excellent, yes an excellent, set up for fallout stories on the east coast, they kinda threw all potential out of the window. Well, not all, but quite a bit. Their own lore retcons, stupid ideas etc etc. I also came to realize how incompetent some of the people at Bethesda are. While Sawyer to this day answers questions about Fallout New Vegas; the design philosophy, stories and themes, Pete Hines states that he doesn't have time to debate about the lore of the a "fictitious" work, or something. It was a tweet regarding the jet retcon. And I once was a guy who said that Fallout 4 will be the best game ever... yeah, its good so far, we will see.

Anyway, just wanted to share some random thoughts, sorry if it was a bit of rumble. I didnt go here with a specific goal of topic in mind, just thoughts... I will always appreciate Bethesda for what they done to me, and be disappointed in them for what they could do if they actually tried to "live" fallout like fans and other developers do.

It's good? Uh... how is Fallout 4 good? Fallout 3 I can understand, but not Fallout 4.

    And welcome to the community.

Really? I found companions pretty bland.

To be fair, you must admit they are better than in FO3

That raider-dude you can recruit in Megaton, most pointless ever. In fact, I would even make it a kind of play-through tradition to recruit companions, and see how quickly they'd snuff it. Even with power armor, they rarely lasted long, especially late game (with the exception of the bugged ones obviously)

As much as I old-grump-rage on FO4, I actually felt sympathy for my companions there, particularily MacCready and Valentine, and to some degree Cait and Danse (the latter especially when faced with executing him. This is probably the ballsiest thing FO4 did, and the most resembling an actual choice you have to make)

As blasphemous as it will sound here, I think there is a certain finesse to the themes and motifs in Fallout 4 as well. Personally its arguable one the better side of Bethesda games, for me.
That said, even for me, few things stood out such as the lack of humor almost from the beginning.

Yeah they took away humour, because their old humour was pathetic.

Bu...But acting like a smarmy sarcastic asshole is hilarious right? Like shutting that door on the Vault-Tec salesman. Pretty lol-sy right there.

An ostentatious opening with a marching band and parade is far beyond my funds. A quick welcome I find here is appropriate.

I'll be honest, I sometimes feel bad that I have complained as hard as I have about Fallout 4 and Bethesda's direction with it, especially since I loved Fallout 3. However, then I go play Fallout 4 again and within 5 minutes something reminds me why I complained in the first place.

It's a love-hate relationship with Fallout 4 - everything there is to love about the game has a price or compromise attached to it.

And it has serious dialogue issues - the game should not have been released with its dialogue system in this state. I'm not even talking about the wheel - there are characters talking over each other, making weird pauses, complete tone of voice changes, the works. It is janky as hell.

I appreciate Bethesda for giving me one more thing to bitch about since 2006.

Hmmm, I personally like F4, I think it's a decent game. If I had to rate it out of 10, it would either be a high 7 or a low 8. With Mod Support coming on PS4 next year, it could get a place in that high 8. But as it stands, it's no New Vegas (which I will go on and say is my favourite Fallout Game).
It did a much better job than 3 (which admittedly, I like alot) but the game has its problems. The dialogue system is a joke, there are too few factions, the opening sequence could have gone somewhere, faction rep (they kind of have this, but it would have worked so much better if they had more factions), armour disguise, weapons breaking, power armour available way too early, the endings being the fucking same (fuck sake Bethesda, make an ending to your fucking games next time), while I enjoy the story, the writing could have been better, better writing in general (ie it being too easy to convince people on shit) and the game having no sense of humour.

Honestly, I still like it and I'm glad I picked it up along with the season pass, but it's a major letdown when compared to New Vegas.

Wrong! Bethesda was only one possible necromancer. Sadly they had the most money.

Good thread and good posts. While I tend to try to stay away from being a fanboi of anything. I do like fallout very much. It has been a big part of my life since 1997 when I was 17 years old. Nice to meet everyone. Much love from canada too all my fallout fan friends.

    Cheers
