We have rounded up a few Fallout-related news items that might interest you.

    - Perhaps the most noteworthy of the lot, ex-Obsidian-back-at-Obsidian developer Anthony Davis is auctioning off part of his RPG collection via eBay, including some really rare Fallout collector's item like the promotional Gecko in a Can from Fallout 2's PR campaign. If you want to spend thousands of bucks on videogame-related stuff, that sounds like a good way to do that.
    - Chris Avellone was at DragonCon recently, which means another round of interviews for him: SuperBunnyHop (video), RacketBoy (podcast) and MOG Nation (video). While all interviews are good, the one where he talks more about Fallout is probably the podcast with RacketBoy. Also some general chat about Wasteland 2, though no new info.
    - Finally, Cheat Code Central argues that Fallout 1 should be remade, or at least, Bethesda should produce a new game in old-school vein (read: isometric view and turn-based mechanics). The article isn't very recent, but certainly still worth discussing.

You know if I was making a list of people that should make an old-school rpg(is the 90s even that old?) Bethesda would be pretty far down it. Even if you are a fan of a company you have to admit what they do right doesn't really lend itself to that type of game at all. People that want old-school rpgs don't want them made by Bethesda. People that want games made by Bethesda don't want old-school rpgs. They bought the license to one of the most liked old-school rpgs, they didn't buy the ability to make it

I harbor some sort of wishful dream that Wasteland 2 will sell a bajillion copies and Bethesda will hire inXile to make a turn-based Fallout game for PC, tablets, and XBLA.

no, Bethesda should not do it, thats kinda obvious, and I am saying this without any hate or what ever. I mean even they said it once. They do only what they do best. And the kind of games they did in the past, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim etc. those are the games they do best. Why would anyone expect from them to be capable of creating the experience of such old games?

Not to mention I would rather want to see actually new games, with new story lines, characters and a completely different world/setting etc. that only follow the tradition of those old games, not just being a "remake". I don't think that creating a remake is really fun for the developers either. I believe they see them self, at least some of them, as creative people. How much of this creativity can you use with remakes though?

The old school, 90s isometric throwback style RPGs are going to be the realm of the small developers, such as we are seeing with Wasteland 2, Project Eternity, and the Planescape sequel. The sheer amount of money that needs to be generated by a company like Bethesda can only be done with state of the art looking games that appeal to mass audiences. There just aren't enough of us "substance over style" types out there that are going to buy a game that looks 15 years old, no matter how good it is, to get a big time developer to consider it financially viable.

today, huge size team makes simple game for elemetary school boys meanwhile the small size team makes complicate game for adults.

the simple games are looks complicated and awesome but actually it's simple and stupid.

remaking old Fallout? who will do?
beth? they will make kind of linear shooter with mini games and useless sub quests.

This is inevitable imo. Wasteland will be successful, and Bethesda will spend 1/100 of the budget of one of their big games to make an iso rpg simply because the market demands it.

    (Hey I'm in Ptown too!)

I would not want Bethesda to remake Fallout as a standalone game, but I would be ok if they had some DLC that remade it or at least part of it.

Though I don't think it's inconceivable that beth would contract obsidian to make an iso rpg, (they have said they only make one kind of game). Best we could ever hope for.

making remake of Fo1,2 as a mod of Wasteland 2 would be good.
the game don't have to be a goods to sell.
no need to give money to beth who don't deserve name of Fallout.
    what's this?

Why not just simply leave it as it is then? Both the old fallout games aged very well. I don't see a single reason to "remake" them.

    just for fun.
people even remakes Shadowrun snes version
    with Shadowrun returns.

even Fo1,2's combat is sucks, skills are unbalanced
and have other problem, it's plot and quest design is still good.
lots of bad points of Fo1,2 can fixed with better mechanism of Wasteland 2.

remaking with beth's horrible way of making
or making Fo1,2 as a linear shooter or transfer
Fo1,2 to better engine without fixing mechanism
    would be poor.

but using better mechanism to fix the flaw and remake as same genre won't be bad.

actually I don't think remaking is good.
but eventually someone will do. I bet.
if someone do, I prefer mod of same genre but
have better mechanism is better than beth's horrible work.

Ok, I bite. What "better" mechanics does Wasteland 2 have over FO1/2, despite being a totally different system?

Drop it. You can't convince someone who doesn't want to convince and will only end up mocking your idea.

Best see if you can get together a team willing to do the conversion or code an import of Fallout data files.

    not actually.
Fo1 is actually just a kind of remake of
Wasteland. then it won't be hard to remake
    Fo1 as a mod of WL2.

Fo2 is new game but for system,
not many things changed so it won't be hard either.

I heard one of developer of Fo1 admits Fo1 was kind of remake of Fo1.

I don't think remake is good nor is bad.
    don't much care about remaking.
just think if someone do, I prefer user mod then beth's horrible job.
