Fallout 2 mod Getting ready for Fallout Sonora translation

Small observation - unless this was explicitly changed in Sonora, the default unarmed attack on Unarmed 55%+ is "Strong Punch". In the ENG translation the frm graphic says "Force Punch".

I noticed some things that need work while playing:

- The survivor at the Bate's motel has his description in inspect wrong and the dialogue with him also just gives "Error".

- When an enemy lands a critical hit on you I get messages saying like " 1626374838363" damage and similar in the lower left but this does not affect the real damage input which is correctly deducted from your HP. Pretty sure this is because of the critical Hits translation.

Also there's "Presence" perk with "Animal Friend" graphics, not exactly sure it's correct, and there is no sign of perk that does the same s "Clues" in Fo:Nevada, and yet it's functions appear in the game (after choosing all perks), the other team ( from manual translation) translated it as Mathlogics, and the description was different (a new one)..

So You may get that native Russian in Your team to tackle it.

The motel dude is already fixed, this will be in the next update. For the infobox messages, this is something we're working through atm, again thanks for bringing it up.
 
Why not put the project on GitHub? Could allow others to easier help with translation stuff and updates could be checked out regularly.

We're just passionate amateurs, never done this before, let alone did something on GitHub (at least I didn't). I never bothered with looking into any sort of Fallout modding, translation included, up until some three weeks back. I'll see what the rest of the guys think, but I believe we're more than happy to make this project fully open source.

    • 'Road Warrior' karma title translation corrected
    • Purification special perk no longer causes CTD on the character screen
    • Corrected the 'Animal Friend' and 'Hints' perks text and graphics
    • 'Strong Punch' unarmed attack now correctly displayed instead of 'Force Punch'
And now for the really good stuff:
  • We added another member to our ranks that is actually an ex-member of the original Sonora translation team and he more than generously offered to donate all of the files he translated so far.
We're talking about some ~370+ dialogue files which is more than half the dialogue text in the entire mod :aiee::aiee::aiee::aiee::aiee:

The original Sonora translation team even confirmed that they see no issue with us using these files, so it's little to say how big of a boost this is and how thankful we are for this contribution.

In addition, we decided that what Lexx suggested was perfectly reasonable and that it would be for the best to make our efforts as transparent and open source as possible, so our project is now live on GitHub as well, you can find it on this link here:
FOR NOW PLEASE USE THE DROPBOX VERSION since we're still figuring out the whole GitHub thingy, we'll give a shoutout here in the thread when it's ok to download from this repository too. But anyone that wishes to help with the translation project is now more than welcome to do so.

I will still be updating the dropbox version too, as sort of a backup; so if that's the one you're using, you'd have to download the contents of the dropbox folder again and overwrite the stuff in your Sonora root folder for this update to take effect.

As always, please keep reporting the stuff that you find, your input is as invaluable as ever :bow:

Great news with the git repo. What you have to do is add the raw file somewhere, maybe inside some extra /source/ folder. This way people can directly check out, etc. single files and don't have to unpack/repack the .dat files.

Alternatively, you don't have to pack .dat files in the first place. You could just make regular folders and call them "x.dat" and it'll work for the game as well.
 
Hi, met one bug when using the Sonora translation, connected with Book seller mod as when removed the mod I could continue.

The bug happened when trying to enter Phoenix business square where the Book seller is present. Dump file attached.

When removed book seller mode, I could enter, when staying in the same location and putting back the mod, the game crashed again. When going to different location, putting back mod, and again back, the game crashed again.

It was a completely new game, game version from Foxx from rutracker.

Odd, I started a new game, beelined for Phoenix and met the bookseller with no CTD. We'll investigate for sure, for now try downloading the drop again and see if the crash reoccurs.

on the Phoniex 'town map choice' entry, one map is named "cover-cola warehouse" ( from the casino debtor quest) it should be "Nuka-Cola Warehouse"..

There are also many text instances in dialogues where caps or $ are replaced with covers or lids.. Yandex has problems translating the word "kryshky" or "khryshetchky" which Nevada Band often used throughout the mod to name the currency (mostly by pesant npcs).

Well.. that is Yandex agin.. having trouble to translate the word "jader-cola"/"jadernaja-cola" which is Russian term for Nuka-Cola but the word "jader" has multiple meanings in Russian: Nuclear, system's Kernell, or *Core* of a nuclear reactor. And probably there's more, but yandex can't seem to choose wisely.

Hey there, this issue should be long fixed, are you using the latest version of the translation? In any case, just back up your saves, delete the folder, and download/install everything again, it should solve it 100%.

There are lots of items untranstlated, some of them are obvious what they are but some not so much, it is hard to figure out which ones are worth keeping.

Close the "jader" is russian for Nuclei, Nuclear, or Core, this is in my next post.

The one You quote was deleted because it glued together with what i was sepose to write in Last Hope mod thread, so i sliced that part out, and posted agin with the info i thought You've missed/skipped..

the "jader" word's true meaning in english must be figured out from the context of the situation.
something that's out of scope for Yandex right now ;)

You are actually able to find Intro narrated by Ron Perlaman AI if you search via google (it's on yt as well, only YT algorithm doesn't show it at the top)..

as for your question..

download and install Jdownloader2. it has everything that's nessecary to rip original videos from YouTube.
go to the video you want, copy it's link and paste it into Jdownloader2 & download the video.

the video is usually in .mp4 AVC (h.264) format. it needs further conversion to be played in Fo2 engine.

next download ffmpeg

unpack it somewhere, pase you downlaoded video into ffmpeg's folder.

open up command prompt and navigate to your ffmpeg's root folder.

next input this command:
ffmpeg -i INPUT_FILE -c:v libxvid -q:v 1 -q:a 1 OUTPUT_FILE.avi

the output file should be named credits.avi

the input is <whatever it's named>.mp4

the -q:v 1 -q:a 1 are crucial if you want the same video qality as the original ( which would still be meh because the resolution is low) but without this You get a utter terrible mess.

the processed video goes towards data/art/cuts .

last thing to to is to open up ddraw.ini look for option:

AllowDShowMovies=0

and set it to:

AllowDShowMovies=1


save ddraw.ini and you should be good to go.

the conversion process for ffmpeg may take quite some time, so don't start it until you have loads of free time ahead of you.

And Yes the Video You put here comes from the original translation team. video host channel garwert. is the team boss

Be aware that Sfall 5 from Mr.Stalin that Foxx's release uses, has few flaws regarding .avi video playback.
1. the avi video is a bit torn in lower 1/3 of the screen.
2. thanks to Sfall 5 no longer supporting Mash's HRP there is no subtilte playback ( this is a general Sfall's HRP issue, as the subtitles only work with Mash's HRP. You could switch to Mash's in vanilla sfall, but it's impossible with sfall5 from Mr.Stalin since quite some time).

The only chance for subtitles is to slipstream them into the video itself, or wait for Mr.Stalin to fix his stuff.

and please don't get me on that: I want to convert the video to the original .MVE format.
Forget it, it ain't gonna work nice, the chances the video image will be decent are quite slim.

Regrettably no, because this is the work of the official translation team lead garwert and we don't want to use their work without explicit approval and permission. Subtitles are in ENG, we might consider using an AI VO with Ron Perlman's voice, that's an interesting idea.

the Voice over and the subtitles synchro are a bit off, however it's not bad considering it's an english speaking voice... besides once I'll be done with the upscale to this, that is if i manage to do this before my pc dies on me heh, ther'll be no subtiltes from .sve files to play for an upscaled video with sfall5. This video has them embedded, poorly.. but still..

also on the translation bug side..
the robot that introduces you to the DLC which one meets when reaching lvl7, says something about "Gulski" town/city.. this is poorly translated.. in Russian different declatnation type, typically unused in English, so Ghoul turns into "Ghouls's" (Gulski in Russian)( Gulski can as well have pelthtora of contexts which would be translated differently but in this case it's pretty straightforward) . to fix this sentence i propose to use either term Ghoul Town or Ghoul City.
