Did I say it wasn't CGI in the end? I deliberately left out all the details about how they scanned and animated because I thought it was common knowledge around here. Key word in my original post: "first". Now they rely 100% on the 3d modeling software to do the work for them, and it definitely loses something in the translation. The previous posts in this thread all seem to imply the old talking heads started out as a computer render. In the late 90's when Fallout 1 and 2 were made 3d modeling software was still fairly new and extremely limited. With today's hardware and how far along 3d studio max has come you can do anything. However, that allows them to cut corners in development. In short, Marcus looks like a lifeless Hulk. But, whatever. That's the least of our problems. New Vegas will likely be crap anyway. Either through bugs or retarded design or plain old unfinished.

Yeah, maybe he's trying to fit in with the "Orc from Warcraft" fashion and go along with the times. Maybe we'll have to do the same in 40 years, you never know.

Looks like marcus hit the treadmill and then found a secret stash of L'Oreal age defying facial products, but all in all it is Head and Shoulders (no pun intended, I kill me) above the muties in fallout 3.

I gotta admit I like how Obsidian is trying to get Fallout back to its roots as much as possible.

In regards to the VAs, again its closer to the original Fallouts. One doesn't need A-list actors. It saes money and also who says TV actors and actresses do not have talent.

Working from clay isn't a bad idea at all, it's just another form of the creative process (and a quick medium to work with I might add). Venturing from the 80's into the early 90's, "3D modeling" wasn't as big or as popular. Not to mention the people that know how to use this type of software were even more scarce.

Before modelers there were sculptors, a lot of sculptors switched gears into 3D modeling because there were jobs and money involved. Back then, it wouldn't be unheard of to use physical mediums to quickly iterate models before putting them into the computer. (Which is still a good practice, never underestimate older forms of creation!) Today, younger 3D modelers are usually trained on the computer from day one and wouldn't even consider using clay.

Understanding the limits of the FO3 engine (texture memory and polygon limits) and the methods used in the past with FO2 (modeling and animating frame by frame to splice together images to give the illusion of a 3D rendered image) I still think it's silly that a modern game engine looks worse than a 2D game 11 years ago. I mean, I get why, but it's 2010, we're also suppose to have flying cars n shit.

With that being said, I think it's awesome that Obsidian is doing some fan service when they don't really have a solid reason to. I felt the same feeling seeing that shot of Marcus as when I saw the original powered armor in FO3. Just nice, ya know?

I think if I buy the game the first thing I will be doing is searching for better textures and such ...

i thought it'd already been discussed that this is likely an unfinished (re: untextured) render?
