It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down.

What's so special about Bethesda's games?

Huge open world sandbox that isn't GTA is pretty special. I have no special love for that company, but their games are unique and fun to play (after patching and with mods, that is). Even if people here think that Fallout 3, Skyrim and Oblivion where shit they must agree it was a unique type of shit.

In a year when games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have redefined what open-world RPGs are capable of, I suspect that a lot of Fallout fans will be forced to question whether the usual Bethesda shtick of providing vast amounts of unpolished content with no emotional investment is still enough. I had a pretty good time, but despite its many strong points, Fallout 4 feels like one of Bethesda's minor works."

The problem comes from the fact that this feels like more of the same, not a step forward. Fallout 4 doesn't break the same new ground Fallout 3 did with its jump to 3D, and its storytelling and intricacy of choice falls short of what New Vegas offered...Fallout 4 just feels safe, even when trying new things."

At some point, I just want the games to work reliably. Fallout 4 follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, which is to say that it's a large, sprawling world filled with so many different quests and locations that most players will miss entire subplots as they scavenge their way from one side of the world to the other. That's also to say that it's occasionally kind of broken, from performance issues specific to the console versions to scripting glitches that might just prevent you from progressing to the same sort of "physics gone wild" moments that make for killer animated gifs and such."

Score of 87 across the board.

I guess if we are honest, people are not giving Fallout 4 low scores because of the REALLY bad stuff, like the boring quests, the stiff NPCs, the outdated visual representation (faces, animation etc.) or for the shitty story and writing.

People complain so much because of the bugs. Once some of them dissapear and the mods start to come out, people will be all over this hiking simulator all over again.

Even the "somewhat enjoyable" reviews for the consoles rant about the horrible story, quests and gameplay. I wouldn't be so sure this can be solved by a couple of patches. They really fucked up this time.

I mean it's worse than Fallout 3 ffs.

I've seen even bethfanbois complaining that FO4 is worst than FO3.

I doubt Bethesda will give Obsidian a chance to make a better game again.

Oh, I knew it! I knew there was a celebration here as soon as I found out about the Metacritic score! I had to come back to see it.

Oh, joy! Bethesda's honeymoon is over! Or, at least, it hit a road bump.

I am wondering, is Fallout 4 the new Mass Effect 3? Will there be a real backlash?

It's funny. I had almost completely forgotten that this game was coming out until the day before it did, but now I'm actually really impatient, not to get it, but to hear people's reactions to it.

On the point that Obsidian might get another crack at Fallout. I would love another Obsidian Fallout story, but I'm not sure I want it built on Fallout 4's assets the way New Vegas was built on Fallout 3. That horrible dialogue wheel, the removal of skills and traits, that pointless settlement mechanic, the danger that there might be yet another pointless voiced protagonist (what a moronic idea that was). I'm not sure I can face all that.

I'd much rather Obsidian work on their own stuff.
Fallout New Vegas for all that was good in it suffered greatly from everything in Fallout 3 that was holding it back. This time even more is holding it back and I doubt I'd be able to enjoy it. All I'd be interested in would be to talk to characters and see how the story unfolds as well as what kind of lore they'll add to Fallout. But actually 'playing' the game? Ugh....

Aaaaand.... Here comes the antibacklash! www.thejimquisition.com/2015/11/metabombed-fallout-4-is-vomit-trash/
In other words it seems, that general gaming culture tries to write off classic Fallout fans just as an immature and childish fandom... I find it funny, that this article's author says, that most probably the backlash doesn't come mainly from fans of original Fallouts, but also from trolls and Bethesda haters and other broad statements... Because there's no way, that in reality a Bethesda game isn't the second coming of Christ and won't be appreaciated by everyone...

Don't be surprised. Jim Sterling makes a living out of being a loumouth that stirs up controversy for views. Of course he cherry picks the worst user reviews and ignores the more valuable ones, which you find in the ''mixed'' spectrum and are usually quite a bit more in-depth.

Not to say that Metacritic user reviews are that useful overall. They are often infested by fanboys giving 10s and trolls giving 0s (and while I'm not a fan of FO4 by any means, it also does not deserve a 0 at all). But Sterling is, as usual, being very disingenuous. This being the guy that gave the game a 9.5 and praised the fact that you can enter a ''romance'' with two flat characters at the same time and they don't give a shit. Because that's the level of ''choice'' that must be praised, apparently.

Frankly, I think Bethesda should just focus on The Elder Scrolls. I feel they do that better than they do Fallout.

Normally I would agree, but after Oblivion and Skyrim, I don't think they do anymore.

Meh, different strokes for different folks, i enjoyed Skyrim. Sure, I know it wasnt something like Morrowind, but I still enjoyed it for what it was. And even if some elements could be considered "grinding", i still enjoyed the game and the rich environment it gave me. And with mods, its even better.

And, heck, maybe I will enjoy Fallout 4, I have learnt not to avoid playing a game even if it had bad reviews, because there have been times when I have rented a game that has gotten bad reviews and ended up enjoying it anyway, and ended up buying it.

Skyrim was fun for a while. Even Oblivion had some fun but in the end it was boring.

This is the most butthurt forum on the internet. The game has been out for like a day and everyone is an expert on the storyline/gameplay mechanics/graphics/whatever. Why even bother with it or the franchise itself if you're just waiting to bitch and moan about everything the day after it's released?

And bugs are irrelevant. The game will eventually be fixed just like every other game that's released nowadays. That's a problem of the game industry, not Fallout 4.

I mean, seriously, sitting on a forum and gloating over a negative metacritic score? Get some fresh air. I feel bad for all the people who bought the game and accidentally made their way to this forum to talk about it.
