The Iron Lady.

was she? Thats somewhat debatable. Particularly her stance regarding communism which was seen as far as western politician go, extreme.

Curious if thatcher was iron enough to survive an nuclear war.

Hello all,

As a non Brit it is a bit difficult for me to form an opinion about her, at least not without have a very thorough look at her career.

Could someone here please give me a little background? Her pro's and con's?

I'm certainly not a fan of the women, but you gotta respect a person who, seeing that her country has a problem (and there was one), attempts to actually do something about it. The results have some good and some bad, but hey nobody's perfect.

And here's the ''nobody's perfect'' part. That quote is utter bullshit destined to appeal to people who think socialism = ineffectual nanny state = communism = evil. It's baseless electoralism in its purest form.

Shafted anyone who wasn't in the south east, Shafted the Miners and Unions hard, Hypocritical and brutal to any dissenters.

I have a personal dislike of her, she targeted my home town specifically as we where starting to recover on our own then she instigated a "managed decline" that threw thousands into poverty and gutted local infrastructure and investment, and redirected as much effort an resources as she could to citys on the south coast.

yeah well, the problem isnt that she was a terrible politican. The problem is that she wasnt a good one either. - But that is true for many of them. Thatcher was a female. That alone gave here a lot of press. Doesnt mean it was easy for her or anything.

The only problem I have is heir stance on communism and the Soviets which was rather extreme.

But she was not alone with that. There have been enough people on both sides of the fence which had the feeling everything should be cleared in one big battle once and for all ...

As i said before i don't know much about her either.. Just whay did she do to piss of the miners? Saw a short thing on the news where some people said she wanted to flood som valley or something and someone mentioned the miners... Thats about it :?

My stand on the subject:

The torrent of hatred going against Thatcher is a pretty asinine thing. She wasn't the nicest person in the world and made a lot of decisions that hurt people, but she also made a lot of good decisions (supporting the single European market being one of them) and was the first female MP in Britain.

I understand that this is the Internet and being moderate and rational doesn't sell and gather likes, but really. You make a lot of good points. Joining the mindless bashing of a dead woman is not one of them.
