    1. When you played the game you were I kid. You let nostalgia blind you and forget about all of the bad stuff.
    2. Black Isles has less at stake then bethesda. Fallout was, I believe, one of 11 games that year from the same company, and the company wasn't massive or globally recognized. This is why their games had more freedom in challenging the form and pushing the envelope. Thats why fallout 2, in 1998, was able to be the first game to allow gay marriage: what did they have to lose?
    3. The games are more accessible. They're more mainstream and well known. Before, when they were relatively unknown, you felt special because nobody else was playing them. But now you realize you're not special, so you had to make yourself feel special, which leads us to four...
    4. This website is an echo chamber where you try and separate yourself from newer players. To make yourself feel better than them. Where anyone with differing opinions is labeled a troll or an inferior idiot. Because deep down, humans have no raw desire quite like exclusivity.

If you want to make a good argument for why you dont like bethesda, separate your self from the above four listed.

Wow. You are the very first person bringing that kind of argument.
I believe most of the community will feel crushed by those and leave the internet for good.

Or maybe they will keep finding counter-argument until way after you already lost your temper and left the website.

    1. I played the classic Fallout games as an adult, AFTER playing Fallout 3. Bethesda games are still shit. Altho New Vegas was a nice fluke, a window into the better era of the series.

    2. I failt to see how being able to gay marry has any relevance to anything. Fallout wasn't of a unique genre when it came out, isometric RPGs were pretty common. And New Vegas proved that you can still make a good Fallout game even in the new format if you actually give a shit.

    3. Plenty of other series have made their games more accesible without turning them into shit.

    4. Actually this website has a lot of different opinions, many people don't even agree on wether FO2 is better than FO1, or wether New Vegas is even considered a good entry (I am on the Yes camp for that one).

Mariage was just an example of the many, well, boundary pushing things Black Isles could do. Another example was in their the first fallout when you could kill children

I liked fallout three. It had its flaws and I can see why someone wouldn't like it, but it will always hold a place in my heart. Fallout four was trash. I agree that the series isn't going in a good direction

Those are superificial things really. People don't complain about Bethesda games because you can't kill kids, people complain about the obvious lack of quality to the writing, the dumbing down of rpg elements, the ever decreasing choice and consequence aspect of the series and their constant mistrheatment of lore and tone.

Wrong on all points to my experience.

I played them as an adult, so i had no nostalgia bias for the entire franchise. I don't hate Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 because they are more well known or i no longer feel special for playing something that hardly anyone plays them (this is one of the stupidest things i ever read), i hate them because i consider them a pile of shit.

I'm gonna be real here: if any company in existence other than Bethesda made Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, i would still be bashing them to hell. Nintendo could have fucking made these games and i would be giving them scrutiny. This bullshit "argument" that me and a lot of people hate Fallout 3 and 4 because it's made by Bethesda needs to burn in the deepest pits of hell because it's complete horseshit.

About the echo chamber nonsense that some people love to throw at this site: i didn't even know this forum was rather notorious for criticizing Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. I just came here to discuss with other people that liked this franchise.

And last, i don't give a shit if people like Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. Just don't try to convince me that they are any good, because i gave them enough chances. Fallout 3 specially, this is probably one of my least favorite games of all time.

I mean, thats not difficult. Their monetization practices are atrocious, the lack of quality in writting isnt limited to the Fallout games, their support for modding has become worse over time (arguably, modding was one of the best aspects of a Bethesda game, and as far as Im concerned the main reason I would even buy one of their games in the first place). Theres plenty wrong with Bethesda besides fallout

So we have one of these again. This is what you think because you have no perspective because your brain isn't even fully developed yet. You don't even have a clue what people think because you were online and saw NMA mentioned and automatically jumped here to register to tell us how it is. You lurk for a few days then start talking shit with the same phrases and tactics as all the rest.

People crack jokes about Todd Howard and fanboys get butthurt. So what? People can crack jokes about the President of the United States but not some shitty video game company you like? Grow up.

Really. Grow the fuck up. Or you can stay 12 and just not post stupid worthless waste of fucking space garbage like this.

God you are 14? Ok I take that back. Just read this thread and learn something kid...posting it now.

That feeling when you tell someone to grow up and they are a little kid.

Bethesda's profound disrespect for the series alone, by itself, doesn't really make me hate them. It makes me not want to give them my business, but hate's a strong word. No, what makes me hate Bethesda is their absolute scumfuckery as a business in general, including but not limited to absurd and pernicious litigation and utter contempt for the only fucking people willing to turn their buggy-ass games into decent hiking sims and so on.

1 - My last playthrough of Fallout 2 was...right now. I'm nearly finished, just about to head to San Fran. Nostalgia for something you're doing right now is definitely a millennial attention span thing. When I was a lad, you could only have nostalgia for things in the past.

2 - Black Isle had more at stake - they didn't have tens of millions of dollars in reserve funding. This was clearly demonstrated by their, you know, insolvency.

3 and 4 - this website was created before you were born, when the series was new, everyone was a new player, and we sought the precise opposite of exclusion, as demonstrated by the community website you're using today.

I'll give you one thing though - I don't understand why so many people talk about Bethesda on a Fallout forum. Bethesda has never had anything to do with Fallout.

    1. I only played the classics later after 3 and NV. If anything, 3 is the one causing nostalgia blindness as playing the classics and NV only shows that despite their issues, they hold up. Unlike 3.

    2. From what I've read, Black Isle had the issues some good companies had; great critical reception but insufficient sale numbers IIRC (someone do correct me with citeable links if I'm recalling that wrongly). So they also had their own uphill battle (plus the dev cycle was shorter than 3 or 4's but in 2's case, the game was better than Bethesda's stuff).

    3. As pointed out, there are games that are accessible and do not need to be too dumbed down.

    4. NMA has been around for a long time. I'm technically a newcomer to the site but I wasn't kicked out for not being someone from the earlier times. Plus I don't directly insult people for loving Bethesda's entries since I don't mind of such opinions; I only rebut and directly argue if those people then make the attempt to convince me that I am somehow in the wrong for not sharing their opinion.

Bonus: I dislike Bethesda primarily for their hike in anti-consumer behaviour that they've been doing like their review policies and their attempts at implementing paid mods. Disliking their entries just happens to come alongside it. @Risewild had complied a list of their rather shady behaviour before.

The only Bethesda I hate is Bethesda Softworks, because they are scummy, cheaters and bullies. But I have nothing against Bethesda Game Studios (the only Bethesda that actually makes the games).

To be honest The Elder Scrolls was my favorite fantasy game series for PC since Daggerfall.

Hell, I even had fun playing Fallout 3 .

    Let's address your points:
1- I played the first Fallout game when I was around 17 years old, so I wasn't that young. But I was 17 and that for me these days is still a kid.

Anyway... The nostalgia excuse really doesn't work on this site, because many people here are like me, they didn't just played Fallout and Fallout 2 once or twice back in the day, and that was it. They still play the games today and played them several times over the years.

Also most or even all people around here know fully well all of the problems and flaws of the classic games. We are not blind about the problems of the classics.

2- Black Isle actually had more at stake than Bethesda Game Studios, they had everything to lose (and thanks to Interplay, they did lose everything because Interplay shut them down). Interplay was already stressed in terms of money and was pushing Black Isle into making games quickly (it removed resources from Fallout 2 into Planescape: Torment and many people quit at that time).

Also, Black Isle only released two games in 1998, Fallout 2 and Baldur's Gate.

If you meant Interplay, they published quite a number of games in 1997, but most were not made by them (I think they released 3 games), they only published those.

Bethesda really had nothing to lose. TES series was (and still is) extremely popular, they were making millions of dollars from Morrowind and specially from Oblivion and it's DLCs. Not to mention that Bethesda is backed by Zenimax, which is a multi-billion dollars company created by Bethesda's creator. Bethesda really had nothing to lose, if their Fallout 3 wasn't successful, they wouldn't have to close their doors or anything, they would probably freeze the IP or try to make Fallout 4 in a different way, to be more appealing to their audience.

3- Fallout was never an obscure game series. It was pretty popular back in the day. I didn't even had internet back then and all of my friends played the game, so pretty much everyone around my age that I knew had the game. In fact the first couple times I played the game, was because one of my friends lent it to me. I was too poor back then to buy games at release, but I had a good friend that had wealthy parents :wiggle:.

And I will tell you, I never felt special for playing games, watching movies or series or reading books no one else knows about. It is actually the opposite. If I am the only one liking those products, I just feel lonely and excluded.

Why do you think people made all types of community forums and sites back them? So they could discuss the stuff they liked with other people who like the same things.

4- This site is really not an echo chamber. People can't even get in agreement about which Fallout game is the best. Some say Fallout 1, others say Fallout 2 others say Fallout New Vegas... Some prefer the P&P and turn-based combat of classic Fallout games, others say those things are outdated and boring... Some say Fallout New Vegas is not a real Fallout successor, others contest that... Some say they want Obsidian to make another Fallout game, others say Obsidian couldn't pull it off anymore... Some like/love Fallout Tactics, others hate it and don't consider it a real Fallout game... And so on.

And that is why NMA is quite a good place, people that like Fallout can come and debate things, as long as no one tries to force others to change their opinion on which Fallout is good or not, it is a great place to hang around.

    How's this for an argument?
Some of us here enjoyed the original Fallout titles more than the others. Try defeating a subjective perspective on an individual basis (Hint: You can't without the use of actual violent force, like a Nazi).

Anyone else think threads like this childish "What you like is wrong, here is what you're supposed to think" crap boring?
Last time I checked we here at NMA are usually accountable consumers. Capable of considering the variables to determine future purchases as well clearly define what we may, or may not consider, a poor product.

Therefore if someone wants to hate something, well haters going to hate. However telling people their wrong because of a subjective perspective is asinine.
