Van Buren tech demo

Cool thing to do, thanks a ton for sharing. I hope you guys don't get into any trouble for this, who knows.

Maybe now someone can work with it and make the actual game?

Looks like people ignored your request to not mirror it

*sighs* Predictable. As long as they didn't remove the readme.txt. And as long as they're fine with sharing any costs of litigation should they arise (which is looking unlikely so far, thankfully)

I'll just use that download as a mirror, then.

Litigation, eh? You were expecting something?

Fellow gamers,

I would really appreciate it if someone could torrent this. It would give the server a well deserved break (the waiting time is humongous and not everyone is blessed with flat rate).

Hope someone can do it.

Thank you all at NMA and former BIS developers!
I hope the part about a possible lawsuit was just a joke and that you don't get in any trouble for this.

Can't enter the game :(

Get some error all the time.

Log says a lot of files missing etc.

-- Edit --

Allowed F3.exe to access internet, now it works.

-- Edit 2 --

Well I didn't want to post the log since it was like... 3 pages of text. And posting a screenshot of the error message, well I guess I could have done that.

Anyhow, it works now... or some. When I was walking down the street and the first npc hit me the game froze and I had to restart my computer.

*slap*

A taste of Black Isle's *cancelled* Fallout 3.

This isn't Bethesda's Fallout 3.

Capisce?

Post the error. And don't worry about missing files reported in the log, none of them are needed for the demo.

This is the best thing to happen since the world invented butter.. or at least low-fat butter.. not that I eat that.. whatever.. thank you to the NMA for being their awesome selves and to Black Isle of course

I haven't tried the demo yet, so I can't judge it, but I would be more grateful to see Fallout source code rather than Van Buren pre-alpha. Don't you want to loose another tooth? Well, I guess we could even offer whole humans if the fairy ever wanted to loose a cd with Fallout (2) source code.

Plus note for admins: please consider creating a special thread for tech demo troubleshooting, tech problems are currently mixed in enthusiastic posts and questions...

Hang on, is that obligatory? Guys? 'cause that's pretty weird, if you ask me.

Well, I don't know but it might just be my kaspersky thats spooking or something. After allowing it access internet the error didn't show up anymore.

Nope. Then again, my firewall didn't detect it asking for a connection either (although it might've the first time I started it). In any case, I never allowed it access to the 'net.

It probably just asks for a socket or the like but doesn't use it. My firewall only blocks actual traffic, but Kaspersky might also block socket-requests. It's not entirely implausible that the game locks up if it doesn't get a socket.

Unless you guys have some other version than me, the "internet" address it is trying to access is 127.0.0.1. Which, for the very clueless out there, is your own computer. It is not connecting to the internet. It probably has something to do with the multiplayer function, or maybe it's just some weird programming thing since I've seen other games do the same thing, I don't know, but it isn't doing any harm or attempting to access anything outside of your own desktop.

Also, thanks for the demo, NMA!

This is one of the coolest things I've ever come across on the whole Interwebs!

It's so excruciatingly short though. I wonder how long it will take the modding community to start improving on it?

sad,sad,sad

but at least we can finally take a close look at the techdemo.

i would have put it on my webspace, but after i saw that "don't upload it"-thing, i didnt... i guess there won't be any legal issues, who should do something about it? ex-BiS members? i dont think so...
and bethesda probably wont care... its at least some kind of advertisment for Fallout 3
