Van Buren tech demo

Uh, yeah, or I mailed them ;)

Dudes, my eternal gratitude.

Huge thanks, and a beer drinked in a cheer to a job well done. This headcrab (sigh) just shed a tear :)

Thanks for the demo NMA!

Now... It doesn't work for me :/

I get a fatal error saying: "Failed to create D3DDevice (8876086c)"

And the log says:
Startup()
ResourceCache::Flush
StringSystem::Init - No female string table
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MA2_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MDH_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MFF_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MIN_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MLB_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MLS_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MSB_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MSP_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MSU_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MVY_PS2.pce
ResourceSystem::Demand - Couldn't open file MWB_PS2.pce
Graphics system created.
Failed to create D3DDevice (8876086c)
Destroyed D3D
These files are not included in the rar and doing a google search showed that *.pce could be a Borland Package Collection Editor File.

Can someone please suggest a solution?

Yeah, that's where I found out about this.
This may have already been answered, but where did you guys find this? Did an ex-BIS dev give this to someone?

Those files aren't in the rar, do you have DirectX installed on your PC? That could very well be the problem.

This may have already been answered, so read the goddamn thread.

I wonder if someone can extract the music out of this, as it's pretty neat.

I'm quite sure I have 9.0c, but I don't know where to check it. I use WinXP Prof SP2.

EDIT:
I found a DirectX diagnostics tool. It says I have 9.0c and that all is in order. And it also reminded me that I switched to WinXP HE. :P

Oddly enough, one day after putting a tooth I lost during a biking accident under my pillow, I woke up and found a CD under my pillow. Putting it in my computer, I found out it contained something called "demo.rar". Unzipping it, guess what I found. So thank you, tooth fairy :ok:

Don't expect any other answer.

If you're sworn to secrecy about it, that's fine. 8)
As for this demo, I'll download it and check it out over the weekend. I'm just too busy with finals now to do it now.

The game always logs missing female string table and PCEs, so they have nothing to do with the issue you are experiencing. Your issue is likely related to video card drivers or DirectX, so make sure everything is OK in that department.

a tip (in case it wasnt mentioned - if it was sorry) - obviously installing the fonts in the font folder of the demo on your computer via control panel will make everything look proper

"The F3.EXE file is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:SHGetFolderPathA."
Damn :( . It seems that it works only on winxp...
Kuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurwaaaaaaaaaaaaa :cry: ...

So Kharn, why does F3.exe want to access the internet? My firewall popped up with an advisory about it.

Also, why is the female model topless with nipples??

zomg hot coffee!!111~!! look out for Hills Clinton

Because off the online mode, it's kind of old coding.

It doesn't need it to to function, so just block it.
