Well... yeah. Everyone knows that. I don’t exactly hide it.
Same here. I never considered having an account in NMA, because I thought I'd be unnecessary since I never planned on joining the conversations here. I wasn't a long-time Reddit user either. Anyways, whenever I wrote something in r/fallout, I got downvoted to hell for no reason. Apparently, the 'true loyal fans' of Fallout games think I am toxic and belong to NMA. Every single Bethesda fan I met says the exact same thing "NMA is toxic."
I am not a long-time Fallout fan. Ironically, I was a Bethesda profligate myself. Fallout 4 was the first Fallout game I played. It wasn't about roleplaying or experiencing the post-apocalyptic wasteland (not really a wasteland). I was looking for something to play and Fallout 4 was there. I spent 100 hours in the game and when I finished it, I looked for excuses to play it again. Modded it to hell, turned the game into STALKER.
Then I picked up New Vegas and saw the actual reason why Fallout 4 is a bad game. I started roleplaying in Fallout New Vegas, then I decided to play Fallout 3 because at that time I was bored of New Vegas. It was a mistake. After a few months later, I played Fallout 1 and finished it within a week, never rushed to a quest, explored every single place and talked to every single NPC in the game. It was one of the best experiences I had in my life. After Fallout 1, I started to see things differently. I got into debates and downvoted to hell.
There is also another reason why I left Reddit. Every single day, I saw some posts about "Why do people shit on Bethesda games" or "Fallout 4 needs more love" type things. These posts were literal, actual cancer incarnate. And the funny thing is that everyone automatically upvote this kinds of posts, and whenever I criticize Bethesda and point the actual flaws with lore-breaking issues, I get downvotes.
And this isn't an issue with r/Fallout alone. Even r/darksouls2 and r/starwars (I know) are the same.
This forum is nice and chill, never saw anything hostile. Even If that was the case, I could care less because this is internet. People are allowed to show their inner personality.
Welcome to the club brother. We have our occasional grouchy moments but I'd say we're more scapegoat bogeyman than toxic enemy to the Fallout fanbase at this point.
Have you played Fallout 2 yet? Any specific thoughts on Fallout 1 or Fallout lore?
This is the exact experience I had as well. I started playing Fallout 4 because my dad bought it for me when I was 12 or something, and I played the hell out of it. 150 hours all up probably, which for me is massive. I figured there were other games but never looked into them, I just had loot and shooting fun. I was hardly aware of how oversaturated this formula was getting by that point, it was probably the second game I played like that. New Vegas showed me the value of smaller scope games that deepen the puddle instead of making it wider. I have less hours in NV and the first game than Fallout 4 combined, but I undoubtedly have fonder memories of them both.
I've been trying to play Fallout 2, but so far, couldn't manage to complete it. Every time when I download Fallout 2 and try to play it, something happens and I stop playing in the middle of the game. It's been like that for the last two years, but this time I managed to progress a bit further in the story, but still I lost my interest.
Fallout 1, from my point of view, is the best Fallout game in the franchise.
for Fallout 2, it's great, but Fallout 1 owns the crown.
I consider Bethesda's products as non-canon material. Not just because they are bad and lore-breaking, also they are uninteresting and very generic.
One of my mates said the same thing to me. I believed him because of the smell. Horrific stuff.
Oh yeah, I spent a year at a village school, studying animation, and there was a particular student there who was well known for his complete lack of hygiene. Out and about it wasn't very noticeable, but at the end of the year, he asked me for help moving stuff out of his room
As I crossed the door frame - it was like a wall of stench - unbearable, absolutely shocking to the system - a heavy, grim, unescapable stench - sharp and utterly alarming! The closest smell to it is the rotting smell of a decaying animal - same sort of immediate "alert! alert!" sensation cutting through the nose.
Kinda smelled like old cat piss right?
Tbh I posted on reddit twice to talk about lore and I got downvoted to hell because I said that Lanius wasnt stupid and actually represented the Legion better than Caesar will ever do, just because I differ from the opinion of NCR fans (not even a Legion fan, Im more a Vault City appreciator), I also got downvoted to hell and eventually deleted when I suggested that people should actually play the first two fallout and tactics before talking about lore. Lets just say it wasnt the greatest experience I have on reddit, Im sure its better on other boards but tbh, I dont really care now and will never touched this place again. Interesting to see that point of view of yours and OP since you've been on this site for a long time.
I always lurked on NMA about helpful advice, builds or even some Fallout 2 mods. And then I decieded to create an account even though I dont post much its fine to see this small community with diverse opinions not shouting at each other for a videogame or art direction.
I never said this, but for clarification to the entire post, I never left reddit completely. I just focus more on other subreddits nowadays. Occasionally I will still stick my head into rFallout and often take a beating when I do.
Do other people in this forum like Team Fortress 2? I feel like it is still a gateway into old game greatness these days.
Clickbait title for this old thread I guess...
Reddit isn’t just one community. You gotta find the decent communities on there. And by that, I mean the shitposting ones.
The irony of Fallout Reddit calling NMA an echo chamber is not lost on me. Except here, while obviously a lot of people don't like the Bethesda Fallouts, we really don't care if people like those games.
I personally feel like the name "NMA" already makes Redditors unwelcome, its a dumb name referencing Fallout and Wasteland. Not that I hate the name, far from it actually, it already makes a "fuck off we're full" kind of attitude.
So they assume and are told many pre concived stuff about us, they think we are old men yelling at clouds and all. There is some truth to that, but frankly most of the people I see dont really care about modern Fallout anymore. We have mods and mappers to do our own stories or experiencing new location and interpretation of what Fallout is with the Fallout 2 engine.
They only have to rely on Bethesda/Obsidian for a new Fallout, because what else do they have ? Some furries and pedos doing a Call of Duty ripoff DLC in a janky gamebryo engine or over ambitious project that never see the light of day.
No, this forum is dedicated to arguing about ill effects of Marxist Socialism on the world stage and those in support of it are doo doo heads.
This just feels like a wild dream now. During the release and it's aftermath the hype for the mod took so many twists, when people thought it couldn't get worse BAM one of the artists was secretly a furry pedo this whole time. I gotta give it to them, their clusterfuck of a release was more fun that the mod itself ever was. It was like a fascinating story unravelling in front of my eyes full of hatred and dumbarsery, factions and villains, and authoritarians too.
I just checked and they are still working on it for their small fan club (still closed off against anyone who talks about it's flaws I assume). The comments are still locked on Nexus. I'm just shocked they are still working on updates for it, though the last update was in April
can't have one with out the other.
Uh, not all artists are furry pedos wtf.
All Furries are Pedos. Change my mind.
Well you should have been here when Fallout 3 was released. I considered leaving the forum for some time because it became a real issue with people coming in here and telling us how awesome Fallout 3 was, how bad the previous games have been and how we are all wrong for thinking Fallout 3 was not a good sequel to them.
