Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

they had a pretty big mouth when it came to Radiant AI. So I take EVERYTHING they say about their AI now with a grain of salt. They have shown much of it on some game convention and pretty much nothing of it was later seen in the game.

Time will tell what is true and what not. But I would not expect everything they tell now to happen in the game later. Much of Bethesdas skill isnt to make a good game but actualy build some hype around it and the gamers seem to forget fast. Oblivion was seen as one of the best RPGs. And I am sure many players like it. But from what I can say the "casual" gamer doesnt seem to think Oblivion was the holy grail or something like that. THey enjoyed it. But that was it. Many are aware about the rather boring story (see Oblivoin gates ...) and well useless RPG part of the game as it makes no difference if youre a mage or warrior.

I really hope Bethesda has learned something from their time with Fallout. But I doubt it when you consider how much of Fallout was killed by them.

120 dungeons... All those big numbers... Wasn't FO3 reputed to have over 200 endings?

I saw some calculations that show that Fallout 3, in all its majestic awesomness had over 9000 plausible endings.
Not endings, as an ending scene, but over 9000 ways to reach it, given all options you have in game.

Can you imagine it?
It's over 9000!
That must be the best fucking game ever.

Dungeons and Dragons doesn't have that much dungeons ... and it's MMORPG . Gothic maybe if you count every cliff side as a single "dungeon" . Skyrim has more , like for real , dungeons ?

Bullshit!

I wasn't talking about copy-paste . I was talking about very different dungeons , of different length and purpose for being there . Variability .
What the hell do they take the term dungeon for anyway ? A simple mountain opening with something in there and that's it i suppose .

I think some of you forget what Oblivion looks like.

The difference is major and Skyrim looks pretty damn fantastic for a 360 title, especially considering the type of game it is.

What I really dislike is that all these features being revealed are a bunch of gimmicky shit. It's like that thing about Liam Neeson looking like your character in Fallout 3, all over again. I mean, NPC's either picking up or returning your weapons, trees moving independently, snow falling dynamically? Who gives a shit???? Fix the actual issues first.

And the whole Radiant Story thing is just unnecessary, considering how much BASIC improvement the series needs, and it probably won't do the game any good. It's really worrisome that nothing is being mentioned regarding dialogs or the NPC interaction that actually matters.

At least they are talking about a different approach to combat but I was really hoping they would just say "We heard you all and you ain't got no problem Jules, we're on the motherfucker. We hired a good writer, the story IS going to be actually GOOD, you can have actual conversations with NPC's, quests will be nonlinear, you can affect the world in meaningful ways. So go back in there, chill them niggaz out and wait for more details which should be coming directly."

Nobody's asking for dynamic snow or 120 dungeons, make it 30 dungeons just make them good and the quests interesting. Instead they drop this silly crap. I'm really hoping something along those lines is to come because Morrowind was a fucking masterpiece and I don't care who disagrees.

dont get me wrong maximaz. I hear you. And probably most people around here as well. Particularly when you see "story" as a problem with Oblivion. But sadly that is not how it works. For a problem to be fixed you have to accept it first. You dont solve acoholism before you accept it. Bethesda (or to be more accurate their "heads) dont see a problem with Oblivions story. And even IF they talk about their issues with the story they many times say "we know about it and we feel fine with it". Thats what they said about the companions in Fallout 3 when they refused to get in the purifier for you regardles that they have been COMPLETELY immune to radiation because someone forgot about it in the end and it was to "late" to change that ... I would not be even surprised if they really thought that the story of Oblivion was very dark (it had DEAMONS !!!! FOR FRICK'S SAKE!!!) and deep ...

And they also dont really care for any of their fans. Do you konw how many people in the forums asked for weapons you can throw ? Or even just bolts and crossbows ? All they said was "forget about it! You will se ARCHERY in ways like NEVER EVER BEFORE (!)". And than they included this strange Mkay, Maik ? character runing around saying "people who want bolts are dump" or something ... sure it was some easteregg. But what do I know ...

^^ Agreed. Bethesda guys have a very odd approach to "connecting" with fans. Instead of saying "thanks for the feedback, we will be sure to take it seriously and keep it in mind next time" they have a very confrontational disposition to criticism. It's like they are doing you a favor by selling you their product. They would rather say "your complaints are actually stupid, we know what we're doing, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about so shut the fuck up. Our games are fucking epic."

It's the only company I know of that does that. If I complained about a car I bought from, say BMW or Mazda and was told that there is nothing wrong with it and they "certainly won't apologize" for any issues, I'd tell them to go suck on the exhaust pipe.

Fallout 3 was the biggest gesture of "fuck what you think" I've ever seen. I was just hoping that they would approach Skyrim differently. I still do but it looks like I should just accept the bullshit.

The graphics look pretty neat. Unfortunately that will be the only interesting thing the game has to offer...at least that's how it is in my book.
However, I am wondering if they would let Obsidian make another Fallout game with this engine. That would be awesome!

Dunno I dont have the feeling like this is some kind of Bethesda exclusive. A lot of companies have that approach. I mean take Ubisoft and their crapluncher. Or EA and their policy with "buged" games.

What really irks me is the way how many people seriously hold Oblivion as the pinnacle of "RPGs". I mean I sure will not say that there is only ONE single approach and ALL RPGs have to be like that. Going new or unconvential ways is alright. But seriously what makes Oblivion graphics aside that superior to letz say Fallout 1 or Baldurs Gate. They all have a different experience and I never had the feeling like some linear or non-linear but well done story is better compared to some open world setting. Yet some argue how Oblivion is doing it is the ONLY good way. The same people which think Oblivion had the the best voice acting and animations ...

Well, they all release crap over and over. Few actually listen to the fans. I'm talking about the shit they say. EA at least says that yes, they milk shit and that they hear the complaints (although they do little about it). Ubisoft does ridiculous shit but doesn't really talk much about it, basically taking a "we do what we must" stance. Bethesda actually SAYS "fuck what you think, our games are great."

And if they make a large sum of money out of it, they have a right to say that. Or do they?
I don't like something making me look stupid, even in a game, but XboX users tend not to have that kind of problems. Their motto: Fuck brains go for the eyes Boo!

Skyrim graphics looks like crap compared to the Witcher 2.

Yeah, I'm surprised people are STILL buying their games after all that treatment. *shrug* I guess some people don't have dignity.

Skyrim graphics looks like crap compared to the Witcher 2.

Word.

Well, some people still enjoy the games while realizing that they have problems. I know Oblivion was a huge step down from Morrowind, I know it sucked as an RPG and had a lot of issues as a game but I enjoyed it nevertheless. I will be getting Skyrim too. I'm more mad about Bethesda not bringing the series to its potential and openly ignoring the demands to do so, than anything else.

Skyrim graphics looks like crap compared to the Witcher 2.

Witcher 2 looks like crap compared to Crysis or Battlefield 3, from the looks of it. It doesn't stop it from being a good looking game.

True but you get it just for the sake of having it and playing one time , like i do too only not Skyrim or Oblivion but for other games . They need initial hype money anyway .

I'm comparing Witcher graphic because you can notice they want to extend the titties view now and make it more graphically improved , which Witcher had and will have in ample stock . Only better :D

What i'm trying to say is buying game to enjoy it possibly one or two times max seems like a waste of money to me . If it doesn't have high replayability . But if you try to collect the series or have enough money i guess it's not a problem .
I know i wouldn't collect Fallout 3 or Oblivion , but that's just my opinion .
Other thing was a joke really .

Depends on how much you pay for it, for me. I never buy games until they're on a good steam sale anymore.

Yeah...maybe after Fallout 4! :o I think Skyrim looks damn great,especially sense we've only seen the 360 version.The Witcher 2 does look amazing,but don't forget it's a PC game....no competition.

It's not. It's a multi-platform just like Skyrim. Or was planned as such last time I checked?
