Fallout 2 mod Getting ready for Fallout Sonora translation

well You could always sent an email to garwert on discord, if You'd want to. i have no idea what He'll say.

Anyways garwert mentioned during a conversation with me, he gave acces to several mebers of the translation team. some dont even know they have acces, however I wasn't there, when he gave out the emails and passwords to them. i only know it's on a gdrive (google drive) somewhere. I remember also that garwert was hell bent on keeping the project close sourced until the first release. I don't know what He's gonna say now. it's been quite some time, and He's been sitting quiet for a while, so perhaps He changes his mind when asked politely. I'm too busy with my own shit lately to take the matter into my own hands.. prices for everything rise like crazy, and earnings stay still, sort of a bad time to bum around internet and play games, when your earnings barely cover the house rent, and what about food and other stuff, gotta find myself another source of income, and i better do that asap.
 
I am working on translation to Polish too, alone. It will take a lot of time, but I hope to finish it this year :)

Recently the team keeps to itself mostly on their discord, frankly they all seemed to turn their backs on me, as if I'm no longer welcome there, none of them wants to talk to me, so there's nobody to answer my questions.. heck I don't even know what I'm allowed to say from what's on the translator section of the forum, so I'll likely keep quiet.

On a side note: what's the deal... the forum barely returned from the dead, and all of a suden ppl go like: Is the translation done yet?!

I think we should celebrate nma's resurrection, heck 2000 years ago one guy seposedly was resurrected and it's beeing cherrished up till present day, so why not celebrate nma's revival?

Fuck, if my documents for passport issue which i'm going to file tommorow will pass, I'm going to have a double celebration, and likely I'm going do down few brews... for the passport and for nma XD

If you think they've turned their backs on you, then why not speak freely about the translation? They have been completely tight-lipped, might as well say something so that people stop believing that this translation is right around the corner.

Of course, I read earlier today that apparently, Fallout scripting isn't actually that hard, just if-then statements. Seems like Mutants Rising has little excuse either.

Anything is easy when you know how to do it :p When you don't things become misteriously complicated XD, so if someone knows how to program, and has learned star-trek scripting language ( as this is the unique programing language used in classic fallout programing) then writing a script might seem easy, on the other hand.. good luck finding a book on star-trek scripting language, ( as to what i know the only command descriptions are within the fallout mapper files itself, and are readable & usable by sfall script editor.. with later improovments), as for me i know jack shit on programming, so don't quote me on anything programing related.

As for what's going on Sonora translation wise: I have no idea. Guys keep quiet on the discord, and they've mostly ceased uploading files to discord. database has been mooved to a gdrive, which i don't have access to, so i can't tell if there is or isn't any progress. My bet with the translation team is it has to have something in common with the events on ukraine. when the world lashed out at common Russians, as a retailation to the war in ukraine. they've.. changed.. all of a sudden became less comunicative etc.

I don't want to prophecise anything on the future of this project, as I have no knowledge on what's behind the scenes, however from observation of comunications on translator's discord, i'm fairly certain it's got to do with the war, or at least how common Russians were treated globaly after the agression on ukraine, they are no longer interested in my help, nor do they want to say anything, I'm in sort of a limbo right now between translation team and common folks.. technically a common folk, with priviledges of the translator, yet denied the in depth access.
I don't want to betray them. yet no one knows shit lately. Just in case this project goes downhill, I've backed up majority of the files from translated .msg files. Not all, since some of them were gdrive only files and i haven't seen them at all. currently doing a playthrough of a semi tralnslated Sonora.. it's sort of an brain excersize when some characters speak english, some russian, and few speak spanish, and you have to find out what they all want :p . anyways I'm not sharing those files to anyone under no condition, until it's officially publicly released, or officially stated that the translation project kicked the bucket. Until then, no chance, I'm not sharing, don't bother asking, i swore NDA and I intend to keep my word.

one thing though, i think I'm allowed to clarify that: the 2024 is just an general asumption, one of the translator team guys wrote this date in spoiler section, however no one is speaking of any deadline. i think 2024 was general personal opnion of the translator who ment something mong the lines: "I'm absolutely convinced we'll be done by then".

As to what I'm aware right now the project is down to few ppl only, because the translated files are seposedly checked for many reasons ( part of the original translation process). Projec lead stated waay back it's intended that further stages of the translation be done by smaller group, to avoid loosing integrity of the translation.

I think English speakers should play the game as it stands. Maybe that would make the alienation seem far stronger.

Also @gustarballs1983 . I have noticed you or the translator often use oo instead of just the single o.

I'm not perfect, and I"ve got my english skills by watching tv mostly, as I've been taught Russian as the foreign language in school, so quit pestering on me.

Playing it with the google translate would only have us playing a version of the game outside of their original vision which isn't the best way to appreciate the effort they put into making it.
 
anyone have the google translated files looked everywhere on the internet noone seams to share them if possible can anyone share them if they have them would be awesome for now at least?

I take it the translations dead. Is there anyone willing to pick up where the modders left off?

Hold yer horses there woody.. so to speak...

There's been a long break in the translation, as practically all of the translators took a break to rest, so for quite some time there progress ceased, ( you know.. nasty trolls on the discord.. and all sorts of other commentaty demotivations, has taken a mental toll on the translators, so they had to stop for a while..) however, according to recent discord message, the translator that is behind the most of the work has recently returned to continue. We'll see what his retun will change. For the time beeing, you can either sit and wait, or start a competitive translation ( If the task isn't a one that goes waay over your head). Either way do know that I am preparing to make a small fix for Fo:Sonora 1.10c. mainly custom control options for party npcs ( that are required in normal playthrough and in [Combat Control] Mode=3), and that are not working as intended for any of the party companions. either temporary or permanent. I'm still trying to complete my list of all the companions ( both temporary and permanent), as I i think still haven't discovered everything in this game. If any of Our forum useres has played and knows the complete list of Fo:Sonora companions both permanent and temporary together with PIDs or proto file numbers, send a PM, and I'll try to fix custom party control options for all of them. Currently I know of 4 permanent adult companions pre game-end and 1 post game's end, plus one kid that I'm uncertain he could be used as permanent companion ( potentially screwing a quest to have him) and i don't know if siding with the other faction won't trigger his hostility ( i still don't know his proto or PID), and there are several cameo-only characters that join the player, for a short while that i don't know if I should bother to fix.

Also I've already made a npcarmor.ini adapted for Fo:Sonora based on Sfall-Extended 5.0.3.0 for the 4 permanent companions, so that they change looks when equipping armor.
 
Earlier, I asked the translators to give out the material in order to continue working on the translation based on it. But I was refused, because they are working on the translation (though not fast), and they don't want to give out the "raw" version.
Perhaps if there are more requests, there will be a chance to convince.

Well tough luck on the translated files.. as for Sfall5 i tend to stick to original naming to avoid confusion. It originally was: sfall or Vanilla-sfall by Phobos2077 and NovaRain and Sfall_Extended by Mr.Stalin. The whole sfall5 is going to change as soon as His Sfall build is going to hit v6. Besides it is still called Sfall-Extended internally when going right click properties and about file on the .dll .

If You have any knowledge on Fo:Sonora's party members ( both temporary and permanent) please write me a PM with their PIDs or proto numbers.
I'm talking mostly about:

that GarageCity kid that you can escort to Ranger's HQ i think he can be made permanent companion if you don't finish the quest, Unfortuneatly I don't know the kid's PID.
there are other small time characters that join temporarily Like the jackals prisoner, Motel survivor, that Santa Ana girl, Ranger HQ cadet mission, Ghoul in TwoSun which may or may not be handy for combat at given places. All of them would be cool to have custom control optons during combat, and excluding the kids and ghoul they could also appear on npcarmor.ini for the armor change

All of the main party members also lack proper custom controll options (actually they don't have any AI packets of their own. Instead they rely on generic critter AI packets Like raiders for example, which is uterly bad.

as for the 5.0.3.2 i already downloaded it, however the changes are small hotfixes,nothing totally game breaking. hope it is as stable as the 5.0.3.0. as with this one i haven't got a single crash.
